    >1,2,3
Blu-rays/dvds. They replaced Yoda in Phantom Menace with a digital Yoda for the blue-ray but other than that they're the same
    >4,5,6
Either 4K77 or D+77 versions (they're basically the same, 4K77 is 35mm scans while D+77 is the 4K blu-ray with 4K77 footage spliced in whenever they made a change) so thats:
    Star Wars 4K77 or D+77
Empire 4K80 (which is out yet so you'll have to go with) D+80
    Jedi 4K83 or OTD83

    Hope that helps

      >D+77 is the 4K blu-ray with 4K77 footage spliced in whenever they made a change
      >4K80 (which is out yet so you'll have to go with) D+80

So, these d+ versions are based on blueray? Are they fricked with that grey/blue filter like LOTR?

        Anonymous

No, the 4K blu ray, which was a really good transfer. The blu ray and dvd transfers of the original trilogy were really awful (color and contrast wise) but the 4K blu ray looks really good.

Also I probably should've been more clear that both 4K77 and D+77 are the theatrical cuts rather than the special editions. 4k77 is 100% the original since it's 35mm scans of theatrical release prints whereas D+77 splices the official release with 4K77 footage whereever appropriate and then gets the 35mm footage to match the 4k BR footage color/contrast/grain wise. It's pretty seamless imo

Oh, last thing. Personally I would actually recommend watching them in release order (that's 4,5,6 then 1,2,3) but whatever, it's your life I'm not your mum.

          thanks, you've been very helpful
          >I would actually recommend watching them in release order
i've already seen original trilogy, so im not worried about spoilers if it's about that

also, i heard plenty of times that first 3 episodes are pretty rough (never seen them) so i thought better to get them out of way and leave the best for last

Vol 1 and 2 are like an hour each.

It's just above 2 hours of shorts compiled into two volumes, it's just movie length. don't confuse it with the CGI cartoon, that one had one movie and 7 seasons.
I really recommend you to watch it, it's a better story than any of the prequel movies.

that is ok then. just so that there is no mistake, you are talking about this?

Yeah just one last thing: choice between 4K77 and D+77 is more down to aesthetics. 4K77 looks like 35mm prints so they're grainy and the colors pop in ways your regular HD transfers don't. It's neat but it takes a bit to get used to. Meanwhile D+77 looks like what a really good blu-ray version of theatrical Star Wars would've looked like. So take your pick
            >also, i heard plenty of times that first 3 episodes are pretty rough (never seen them) so i thought better to get them out of way and leave the best for last
Yep. They're not AS bad as some people say but man, Attack of the Clones (imo) is pretty bad.

That's what fanedits are for, and there are many. Hal9000's edit is the most famous one that most recommend. There's also Caleb Gamman's AotC: Fixed. Pick whatever works for you.

            >i heard plenty of times that first 3 episodes are pretty rough
The only one I'd call rough is Episode 2 due to Lucas pushing the limits of digital technology at the time. But the other two are genuinely great with episode 3 being his masterpiece imo. Also I'd say you're making the right call starting with the prequels if you already know the "twist".

            >i heard plenty of times that first 3 episodes are pretty rough
They're not the most horrible thing ever produced like the gen X OT fans claim, but they're not "hidden gems" the millennial prequel fans claim either.
I just say try to have fun with what they are.

you should watch 4-6, then 1-3 for the best experience
then you can finally watch it 1-6 for full context

the disney plus uhd bluray release is the best visually, however it ruins the ending of ep6
so go with 4k77 or the 1997 special editions on laserdisc or vhs

the dvd/bluray 2011 releases are TOTALLY FRICKED
          AVOID THEM COMPLETELY

          >4K blu ray looks really good.
to be clear for everyone, it's the 2019 UHD 4K release, which is the disney plus one, not the 2011 bluray which still has fricked colors

          ?t=268

what I intend to do is take the 4kbluray and splice in my own edits and tweaks using 4k77-83

I know but I wasn't patient to delete my post and do it without that line.

Yeah I actually forgot that the blu ray of Phantom Menace is fricking terrible. Attack of the Clones and especially Revenge of the Sith looked good on the other hand. Did they fix Phantom Menace for the 4K blu ray or not? Sorry I usually just watch the OT and only occasionally throw on the PT (again, I don't think they're as bad as some Gen X people do but man, Attack of the Clones doesn't work for me at all)

          Anonymous

PM for bluray 2011 or 2019+ is fixed in the sense that 95% of it is crystal clear and looks better than ever but there are two three scenes where for some reason the DNR fricked things up, like in the field scene where the rusted battleships hover over the hills, a tiny bit of details is gone from the texture - but the rest of the movie does not suffer from detail loss via DNR so I guess they used some ML shit that just fricked up there.

The novelization for ANH is way too different from the final film and has a lot of shit that doesn't gel with the rest of the series. This is because it was based on a very early script. Empire has a blue Yoda. Return's basically the same but with more stuff to it. However, it mentions that Owen Lars is Obi-Wan's brother.

this was in the early early drafts when things were very different, there was no qui gon yet, originally padme and anakin destroy the trade federation ship together in a twin seat fighter
