Yeah I’m sure he’s wiping away the tears with $100 dollar bills.

      >Lucas is first of all a businessman and Disney overpayed for Star Wars. It was obvious even back in 2012.
Disney are fricking idiots. They bought the IP when they didn't have even half the talent required to do them justice.
It'd be like modern day Nintendo buying the rights to Mario and Zelda.

Disney Nu Wars are unwatchable, the Prequels are a masterpiece compared to the Disney gargabe.

Do zoomers genuinely not know that Lucas donated almost the entire 4 billion to charity like a week after the sale? It was never about money. Say what you will be he didn’t sell it for money he had way more then he needed. Not to mention almost every studio was offering him more for it but he choose to sell to Disney specifically

This is the biggest mistake. Any other studio would've been better for the brand compared to Disney.

WB or Universal would've been great fits and made good movies. Or 20th Century Fox.

This is literally bullshit, George made one (generous) donation of $175 million to USC's film school and that's it. Lucasshills literally are detached from reality and made up some story of him donating the ENTIRETY of the money he made, even though half of the sale was in Disney stock which he hasn't touched.

You can google it yourself yeah. He spent a billion dollars on the museum including the fact that the land was extremely prime real estate and cost 400 million in total. Then there was cost over runs on top of the billion. Most likely not doubling the cost but we don’t know yet. The museum is not finished yet. This was started in 2018.

            >prime real estate
Maybe? It was mostly parking lot for the Coliseum before, though maybe USC would have preferred it become more student housing instead. Being a museum fits in with the other half dozen museums of Exposition Park, at least, unlike the weird charter school.

The point of creating a franchise is to sell it for millions and then don't work the rest of your life.

Why do you think people spend so much energy and time creating entertaiment? For art?

    Lol

  32. 7 months ago
    Anonymous

Frick him. He got over 4 billion dollars out of it and he knew who he was selling it to. If he really cared about the franchise he would have just appointed someone he trusted to Lucasfilm, not sold it, got money from what they made and could have stepped in if shit was going where he didn't like it since he still maintained the rights. After his death it's up for debate on how it would go and who would lead and how they'd do but if Lucas had kept control Star Wars could have stayed Disney free for a few more decades at least. Maybe we'd get kino, maybe not but I can sure as frick say we didn't and probably never will with mouse wars.

In short frick Lucas. He had a better option but chose the quick money, which also frick him it's not like he didn't already have many millions from owning one of the biggest entertainment franchises ever for like 35 fricking years.

Eiger bragged in his memoir about reneging on verbal agreements to develop his sequel treatments so late in contract negotiations George just caved in anyways; it's his own damn fault for not holding him to his word. Now look at this mess.

Exactly, he caved in. I've read shit about them pressuring Lucas to sell Star Wars for years or something and I'm not a billionaire Hollywood director with companies to manage but I figure if I were in Lucas' shoes I would have just told Bob Iger and Disney to like, you know, frick off and shut the frick up and leave me alone.
