Nojiko is one of the central "native" characters in Arlong Park, which is likely to take up more episodes than any other this season. Outside of the main crew, she will probably have more screentime than anyone else in these episodes. She will be revealing the entire tragic backstory, and knowing that they picked a black actress means they will also probably give her a bunch of powerful woman moments. This is not a W.
They should've just cast the Fishmen with black actors like Oda intended
One Piece is the absolute hardest thing to adapt though
And seeing how this studio handled Cowboy Bepop it gives me no hope
Bepop was the absolut easiest thing to adapt and they still messed it up, because most of it could've just been adapted frame by frame rather easily. Meanwhile One Piece actually requires some creative changes since a lot of gags and visuals are based on the medium to the point where manga succeeds where anime fails and anime has bits that succeed where manga isn't as good, the live action series would also have to take it's own direction. The author even says that manga and anime are 2 different experiences, so live action SHOULD aim to be different in some ways, like in some ways gags or tempo plays out, but the problem are the people at helm and how will they handle it.
I can imagine version of One Piece live action that's good in my head, if it aimed for simmiliar vibe to live action Asterix&Obelix movies, Stephenn Chow's works or even something like ZAZ films
It's hard to imagine Netflix doing it correctly though because of how wildly different it is from everything it produces
I love One Piece and I would be very happy if it turned out well but my expectations are a thrash fire.
Battle Royale
Ichi the killer
Ruroni kenshin adaptations
Speed Racer
Alita (I liked it and we had daily threads about how much people here liked it when it released)
It all depends on whether the writers/directors understand, and most of all, respect the source material. Bebop failed because they clearly didn't give two shits about the original and just thought of it as some lame nerd shit they could co-opt. I don't expect anything else for the OP adaptation by default, but there's nothing that makes it automatically doomed. Hell, if they can use some of the classic music from the anime, maybe in new arrangements that incorporate the familiar leitmotifs you can instantly add a ton of soul to it.
Why are Americans like this? Why are they hellbent on destroying Japanese kino by stuffing it with American politics? Why are people defending it after Bebop?
>One Piece is based in its portrayal of troons
Until this latest arc at least
In tomorrow's chapter a mtf bathes in the woman's bath and a ftm in the men's bath
Yamato isn't actually a troony. She's just really dedicated to her Oden larp. Kiku is a flat out troony though

Anonymous
Trannies will ignore that Kiku is meant to be trans, but characters still refer to him as "he". Oda does not respect trans pronouns, and if Yamato was trans, she would still be referred to as "her", consistent with Oda's treatment of Kiku and Izo
I still don't understand what Yamatos mental illness is. She's clearly not trying to dress like a man. Just calls herself Oden.

Delusional is what she is. Oda has said she's 100% chick, but god forbid trannies ever take word of god as canon, instead of whatever shit they come up with because a character is a weirdo

Her mental illness is being a chuuni frick and larping as a historical figure. It has nothing to do with her gender.
Didn't the original One Piece have a whole thing about the government and rich people being the villains? And isn't Luffy's dad part of some communist army? I don't watch the show but I've got this info secondhand from my weeb friends.
World government rules over almost all the world's countries. World government is ruled by elites called celestial Dragons who can basically do whatever they want to commoners, rape, murder, slavery, etc. If you attack them an admiral will be called over to frick your shit up. Luffy's dad is the Revolutionary Army leader working to bring the whole system down
that's the thing with villains in One Piece.
is not as simple as black and white evil and good because even among rich and noble people you can find decent people who care and want to help others, redeemable people who can regret and repent from past sins for the same reason you can find bad pirates and good pirates who just want to be free and live adventures. Sabo was born in the richest family of his island who didn't care about commoners or poor people and now is member of the revolutionary army, Doflamingo's parents were part of the nobles that rule the world and they decided to descend and live a modest live and help people as much as they could and their son grow to be a dictator who enslaved a whole island after killing his parents. shit even Saint Mjosgard who used to be like most of the nobles that rule the world used to be like the rest of them, enslaving and abusing common people and fish-men without care but after having an accident that almost killed him and being protected by the mermaid queen from fishmen looking for revenge he got a change of hearth saving years late the mermaid princess from being enslaved by other nobleman.
is really not that simple as just blaming the government and rich people for all the problems in the world, of course they are corrupt and its obvious that defeating Imu sama is the end game but even among the government and marines there are guys who genuinely want to help and protect people like Fujitora.
You said this word for word in another thread and got corrected by 5 people you dishonest frick. You know by now that this whole series is a libertarian fantasy. The big bad is literally "big globalist government"
Eva is definitely happening at some point, but they will probably go for something more recent and flavor of the month like Kimetsu or god forbid Chainsaw Man.
Don't know much about Wan Piss, but isn't that scar on Luffy's chest a rather late event that happens to him? Are they not starting the show at the beginning?
Only saw photos of the cast but they released a video apparently. The actor who plays Luffy has a thick South American accent. There's no way he's going to sound like this in the show, is there?
But all of the crew are form different Islands, so in theory they all would have different accents. The only reason they have similar accents is because their VA's are all from the same country
So Ace and Sabo, Making, and all the other villagers are going to have accents too? Right? They grew up on the same island so they will all have thick Brazilian accents?
I really wish that OP wasn't so hard to adapt. This is gonna bomb, but part of me is rooting that it doesn't. We deserve at least a few good anime adaptations. Why does everything needs to stink?
Also, Robin is my wife. Please keep your hands off of her. Thank you.
>Also, Robin is my wife. Please keep your hands off of her. Thank you.
Anon, the casting so far is suspiciously accurate apart from Nojicoon, you can bet they are holding themselves back for season 1. Robin will appear in season 2 at the earliest and that combined with the anime-only tan when she first appeared doesn't bode well.
They're gonna turn her into a sheboon, aren't they?
I doubt it will get past the initial season. Not even considering Netflix being cancel happy for even well received shows, OP is too damn long and the characters only get crazier and crazier. They’d eventually need to have a probably 100% CGI Chopper and probably Brook. Not sure how they would handle Franky. And can you imagine them trying to adapt the fight with Gecko Moria and Oars? I don’t think it’s going to make it past the initial season, or at very least will fizzle out after a second season adapting up to the end of Alabasta
Yeah, OP is too far-fetched to be adapted into a live action show.

I usually feel bad for actors in these adaptations (except for that c**t who played Faye Valentine). I don't think they understand the decades of obsession and dedication that goes into fandoms like this. Imagine how Harry Potter fans would've reacted if the movies just changed characters and plot points the way they do with anime adaptations- then factor in the desperation of a social outcast anime fan. The actors surely have no idea what they're in for
Is there even a good live action anime??
No.
It's gonna suck.
Is this just a meme or did they seriously cast a niggress? I mean it's netflix I wouldn't be surprised but still
It's not a meme, they legit cast a sheboon to play Nojiko. Just google it.
Sure, it's a minor character, but Nami's still white, so it's even more weird.
To be fair, they're only adopted sisters, but it's still a blatant raceswap.
True, I forgot about that, but it's still enough to bother me.
I'm just tired of blackwashing tbh
Same.
>nigflix blackwashing characters
>meme
Did you live under a rock for the past 10 years?
>only black cast is side characters that will be in less than 10 eps for the entire series if it were to actually finish

Yes and those aren't good show's you think they are because we are in hell now.

I don't blame you for getting filtered by Hannibal. It's one of the most kino shows ever conceived, but you need to be smart to watch it.
yes
he gets paid either way

why are they starting post timeskip?

Yes, a few of them pass, just like real life. The vast majority is gross, however.
Skyler?
To be fair it’s not like the Japanese don’t frick up live action Anime adaptions as well
You’re so close. But I’ll give you a hint, it’s not “Americans” it’s not my white middle class neighbor doing this…
Are talking about those folks whose snozzles are so big, just because the air is free?

Will he have gay anal sex in the movie?
This looks like they photoshopped the actor's face onto a Jump Force character, what the frick?
This looks like it's going to have cheap 90s tier 3D animation with the actors' faces shopped on.
Because that's not an official image. This is going to suck but that's clearly fan art
>We want the Dragonball Evolution audience
>what do you mean, there isn't a Dragonball Evolution audience?
I think you're forgetting just how bad Evolution was. One Piece cast one black in a minor role and you all freaked out
They really need to shave his fricking unibrow.
>one brow
>the life action series will be less diverse than the actual manga
lmao
The sets they've build look really nice, I feel bad for people who work hard at shows that will obviously blow
Place your bets Cinemaphile, after this inevitably bombs, what's the next anime to get the live action treatment? My bet is on Eva.
Eva is definitely happening at some point, but they will probably go for something more recent and flavor of the month like Kimetsu or god forbid Chainsaw Man.
Putting my bet on my hero academia. Easy way to bank on capeshit trend
This. It's popular enough too.
Gundam is already in the works, Netflix has the rights
Sailor Moon with at least one trans in the main cast
You are too late. The first anime had 3 trannies as main characters for the last season
luffy's japanese VA is a woman, right?
Yeah. Same VA as Krillin.
wan piss
Hot, give me sex now
Is Kodomo no Jinkan next?
Don't know much about Wan Piss, but isn't that scar on Luffy's chest a rather late event that happens to him? Are they not starting the show at the beginning?

lmao are his abs drawn on? looks worse than 300
Why does Luffy already have the scar on his chest?
