They became normies
>normie buys futbol club
They spent too much time in California with too much money and lost their souls. That and they got really fricking old. Charlie is still okay though.
Young and hungry artists get comfy and lose their edge. Its a tale as old as time and perfectly understandable.
Time + Comedy = Tragedy
Charlie GODS stay winning
That dumbass shit movie he made.
Jokes and characters that are funny for a bit when they are in their 30's is a little different from when they are 50
I haven't watched past season 7. Are they still broke and aimless?
They somehow managed to rent a fricking house in the suburbs, they can't be that broke. A rental requires credit screen, background check plus a deposit and proof of income. Frick, that show has overstayed their welcome.
The show went HD and widescreen.

It’s still good. But the reason it’s not as good as it used to be is mostly because of 2 things: 1) Glenn was desperate to become a serious film actor so he tried to distance himself from the show even though his input was a vital part. 2) In Glenn’s absence, Rob, desperate to be accepted by the club, tried to use the show as a vehicle to get praise from critics and threw a bunch of experimental and gimmicky ideas in, even though the show works best when it sticks to its typical predictable formulas.
But the most recent season was good. It seems like Glenn has resigned himself to being Dennis and he still does an incredible job. And Rob has apparently begun listening to feedback from others. So we’ll see.
edginess was replaced with liberalism, happens all the time
Rob. Rob is the root cause of everything wrong with IASIP.
Mac has been such an atrocious character this season
I miss it. I used to laugh. it made me happy
Someone post the podcast clip. It's basically Rob being a gay, having terrible ideas and the others being too bored/forced on other thing to tard wrangle him
that isn't a clip bro that's the the entire podcast
went on for too long
The season where they went to Ireland is when it jumped the shark. It felt like they brought in brand new, off the shelf sitcom writers who had never seen the show before to write it.
This. That's when the show officially went full jump the shark, for real. It completely ruined the Charlie/Frank dynamic for a pointless reveal. The whole thing just made no sense and the episodes had no reason for existing.
100% some woman who was 5 years old when season 1 aired wrote that shit.
Nothing good lasts forever.
Team of writers used to be white guys. Now it's women and israelites.
>Remember this joke from when the show was good?
I stopped watching after they did two full episodes of that. That was over 10 years ago.
The current season finale was pretty good actually
It was never good and you grew up.
What is a funny good show?
The Good Place
nice bait
not funny but a good show
they all got old and rich
you're moronic, last season was fine
>One season out of the last 7 or more is "fine"
>this makes somebody moronic
Go frick yourself.

Try rereading the OP, maybe accompanied by a dictionary this time

looks crunchy
Around season 8 or 9 all of the old writers had left and all the new ones were fans of the show who wanted to reference old episodes instead of writing new jokes. The show became totally flanderized and self-referential.
That's literally been the ethos of the show since the beginning. The whole point is that they said they don't like how in other sitcoms, a crazy thing will happen to the characters, but then it will never be referenced again. Sunny changes that by having their actions have ramifications, i.e. their crack addiction, Rickety Cricket's downfall, etc.
It's also interesting in the sense that it fits in with the theme of the shows. Narcissistic vain characters who cope with being failures by talking about their "glory years" and reminisce about the "good old days." If you ever meet someone like this, you know they hate the person they've become. So the constant referencing of old jokes and gags is like that guy who wants to tell you for the 68th time how he scored the winning touchdown junior year in high school. It's very meta and I completely support their decision to recycle jokes because I get what they are trying to say with it.
That said, yes, the last couple years have been dogshit.
Recycling jokes =/= continuity.
They didn't start recycling old jokes until after season 7 when the new crop of writers showed up.
A callback isn’t the same as just doing the exact gag again or having Danny just list em off. How many meta episodes have they done at this point? It’s pathetic.
Dude they literally just did the fight milk episode again.
red dwarf after the sixth series became a recycling of old ideas.
it was even worse later when they just remade episodes with the same concepts and little to disguise it.
small, clever references to previous episodes was done in the tick cartoon from the 90s, and was funny and different because of the continuity.
from what you say compared to others, it seems you are a fan defending it, blinding yourself to its more recent failings.
also, my sister told me to watch this - but I saw 30 seconds of it and didn't like it.
Red Dwarf got good again when they brought it back after the Back to Earth miniseries, which sucked.
7, 8 and onwards were not good.
there were 1 or 2 episodes much later that felt alright, but it was never the same. losing half of the duo writing it, and craig charles' stint in prison removed the naturalness of it.
it's weird, because when it stopped, I had occasional dreams for some years of a continuation episode - I remember one of them now. my brain really wanted more of it, so it created its own.
when it did finally come back, it was just nostalgia surfing.
they got older and more succesfull. they became connected with the elite in entertainment, shaking hands with the grand liberals of comedy.
they lost their edge when big money got involved.
Let's make a show about a group of horrible people, based on the antithesis of FRIENDS but let's not make them too bad, right?
You were never supposed to root for any of them but the writers forgot about the concept of anti-heroes and tried to make them more likeable.
>dude yelling lmao
it's trash
Yeah, season 1 and 2 is practically unwatchable because of this. But it genuinely turned into a great show from seasons 3-9. Give it another chance.
>What the frick went wrong?
It doesn't matter. Pre S8 Sunny will always be my preferred comfort viewing and I refuse to taint that with the newer seasons.
Why this cutoff point? It's crazy to me that people think the show started to fall off at any point before at least season 10.
How can someone who likes the "classic years" not like episodes like The Gang Gets Analyzed or The Cereal Defense?
Do you think season 9 of Seinfeld is as good as season 6?
Season 9 is where Elaine got the curly hair and went milf mode so yes.
Seinfeld has never been good.
A bunch of israelites centered around an unfunny israelite doing israelite things in israelite york
>> HAHAHA SOUP NAZI OMG FUNNNNNEEEEEEEEEH
Kek this. Watching Seinfeld post-getting-redpilled is very jarring. You can literally feel the israeliness in everything they do. What you once perceive as mere narcissistic behavior, you now realize is just archetypal israeli behavior.
what? you don't like a 5 minute monologue about how the chinese restaurant put one wan tan less in your soup?
These frickers were just a bunch of israeli Karens.
used to find it unbearable, when it was first on.
avoided it for decades, then watched some of it this year for a bit and found it comforting.
been aware of the state of things since back then, maybe reached the next phase
now do curbed
There are still good(great, even) episodes past S8, they're just less and less frequent. I will stick to consistently funny Sunny.
The Gang Gets Analyzed is great, not a fan of The Cereal Defense.
I think season 11 the gang goes to hell is a perfect series ender season 5 was the best
To be fair to the newest season was a return to form. Unfortunately they're just getting old and kinda uncanny now.
female writer who works on the series wrote this post
they got rid of the land rover
it’s still funny. they just got old
Wokeism, they can only be safe edgy now.
I think a big one is Dennis and Dee changing a lot as characters. In the earlier seasons they were a lot more self-conscious and would feign normalcy, only to explode hilariously whenever things don't go their way, while their current incarnations just act crazy all the time and have little to no subtlety left, especially Dennis got that way.
Man, I got clips of the newer seasons on my algorithm and it's so bad. There are like two jokes they do
>boomer tier OH WOAH THIS WACKY SOCIETY I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I CAN'T CUSTOM ORDER MY BOBA TEA LOL SMART CARS
>REMEMBER THIS JOKE FROM THE GOOD SEASONS? FIGHT MILK LOL
Can't stand either.
The fame went to their heads.
Just look at one of their podcasts, they practicly jerk themselfs off over past episodes and how good they are.
when mac comes out is the end it killed the character mac wasn't gay he just he had no father figure and so he overcompensates and ends up doing homoerotic things that was the whole reason mac was funny him trying to live his life as an 80s action movie
when a homosexual oils up a bodybuilder it's not funny the punchline is gone
These are all the things I feel killed Always Sunny:
>jumped the shark and became so surreal it wasn't engaging any more
>repeated episodes with the same premise for no reason
>continuity is abandoned when inconvenient (e.g. never end up doing prison time)
>Frank's wealth seems to be infinite and open to every character
>characters swap roles regularly, which undermines who they're supposed to be
>an entire episode where Charlie is showing he's getting more intelligent, only for the ending to be "nah it was a placebo" except he genuinely was
>made Mac gay, it was funnier when it was just misunderstanding
>Dee's actress literally got cosmetic surgery and no one mentions it
>Mac got into shape with no fitness regime or diet plan in sight
>the gang aren't a bunch of buttholes lacking self-awareness in a real world, they're now a bunch of truly insane egoists that live in a fake reality where chemicals can't kill you and all the oddities aren't notable any more
>all the jokes are extremely tame and drawn out
>>Dee's actress literally got cosmetic surgery and no one mentions it
They're all bogged now except Charlie
Rob McElhenney has forward and apologized for the earlier shows being so unwoke. It's dead.
I still find it good but find Mac's character insufferable now.
The show's just gone on too long and they're clearly running out of ideas. They've had quite a few episodes now that would have made for good finales but they just keep going anyway
They still make the occasional kino. Last season's finale deserves to be in the pantheon of classic Sunny.
is it worth the pain of the episodes 1-6? cos they were brutally shit
I wholeheartedly disagree concerning last season’s finale.
The show just isn’t as funny when it devotes so much of its time to one character. Dennis abusing people in the real world wasn’t something new, so it didn’t really land as jokes but was basically an insane man ranting for most an episode. I didn’t believe for a single second he had actually killed that man, so that was just another long drawn out joke. The reveal that he was just imagining it to lower his blood pressure was fine, but just kinda bookended an episode so it didn’t feel like anything really happened. It sorely lacked the gang.
The rest of the season was definitely a step up from where it’s been the past 6 years or so. Although, it feels like the formula has become “The Gang Goes Somewhere” and its just the characters reacting to the environment for a whole episode. That’s fine, but the comedy felt much more organic when the show was about a group of horrible friends whose schemes, adventures, and failures drag other people into their madness. Just feels like they’re kicking the can a little.
IASIP went from being my favorite show... to having the worst episode of television I've ever seen
The Gang solves the bathroom problem
This 25 minute episode felt 2 hours long
Not even the worst episode of that season but you could tell they really thought they had something with that last joke. Boring.
>Struggling up and coming young actors thirsty for success write and star in their inappropriate, politically incorrect and genuinely funny comedy show
vs
>Incredibly successful, rich, millionaire, plastic surgery addicted Hollywood liberal, hand wringing liberal elites try to replicate their earlier success using talentless writers and phone in every episode.
HOW COULD THE QUALITY HAVE CHANGED?
Rob
Liberal mind virus
>What the frick went wrong?
they left 4:3
Rob got up his own ass, the cast in general started becoming more and more Hollywood liberal which is the antithesis of comedy.
Rob gradually became a massive woke homosexual and the show stopped being funny.
