4/10, boring as frick. Feels like a comic for really young readers, and Sonic isn't allowed to wear a costume because of mandates.

6/10 Also boring, but less so. At least we're getting a break from crying lesbians and the Mimic.

Very enjoyable overall. Good art, good story, good dialog. Love seeing the Chaotix AND Rough and Tumble again.
First IDW issue in a while that I've overall really liked, Halloween issue was cute too.

It’s insane how much more enjoyable this comic becomes when the sobbing lesbian brigade doesn’t make an appearance. I enjoyed both of these issues more than the last 5+ or so.

Yes, because Mimic gaslit her into thinking she almost killed an innocent person.

Yes, he bumped his shoulder and faked being hurt, putting up the act. But Silver was cornering him and Whisper pretty much planned to capture if not kill him with the full intent of it being Mimic. The fact that he didn't break character had her questioning her judgement. As much as I hate these fricking stories, this one makes it pretty clear that Whisper acted on impulse with the full belief that Mimic was there and was willing to do what she wanted to the first time she caught him.

It wasn't until shit calmed down that she even started to think that maybe it wasn't Mimic, that there was a good chance Duo really was just some random kid that she could've killed. And that's Mimic's goal, to frick with her and make her question her judgement and cause dissent before making his move.

Shadow and Knuckles have tragic backstories too, and they don't spend all their time ugly-crying about it.

Whisper is a whiny one-note character no matter how many in-universe explanations there are for it.

It's true that someone might act like Whisper does after being traumatized, but it still doesn't make for compelling reading just to see this character cry over and over again, especially since she's crying over a bunch of stock characters that we never got to know or care about.

It's like Batman. At his best, he's fighting through the pain of losing his parents, and we can see how their deaths fricked him up and shaped his personality. Their loss made him fanatical and paranoid, but he does what he can to protect the innocent and show compassion to other victims of crime.

At his worst, he's just going "MUUUUUUHHH PAREEEEEENNTS" over and over even when it's not relevant to the plot.

Don't try to pass off Whisper's whining as good writing. The writers very clearly don't know anything about trauma or how snipers operate.

It's funtionally the same thing as crying. That plus her obvious purpose of "Have a Scourge to write again" for existing makes me really dislike Surge.

People call Surge a Scourge rip-off but I don’t really think so. They don’t have much in common besides both being based on the Ashura glitch and both being fast.
Scourge was a proper evil Sonic, he had Sonic’s egotism and wieneriness but written in a much more selfish way. He was also a mirror to Archie-Sonic in particular so he shares his man-prostitute tendencies, but instead of being a harem protag like archie Sonic he was a pump and dumper. And just like Sonic could never truly be corrupted Scourge would never be redeemed.
Surge is nothing like Sonic. Surge is loud, and quick to anger which is nothing like Sonic. I suppose she’s wienery like him but tons of characters in this franchise are also wienery like Knuckles, Eggman, and Infinite yet nobody would call those characters evil reflections of Sonic. She isn’t even properly evil, just hurt and lashing out at the world for abandoning her. It seems like she’s going to get a redemption arc in the next issues so she’s not even morally opposed to Sonic.
Chaos Sonic from Sonic Prime is closer to Scourge character-wise than Surge is.

I like the characters. They're fine. I just hate the way SEGA treats them or how the writers are trying to force the Whisper and Tangle ship just because. They work well with good writers, but sometimes depending on the story they just become one-dimensional characters and it's sad.

And I think SEGA is the main culprit here, because the writers have to completely write this shit with the mandates in mind, so they can't even keep their characters consistent without SEGA getting their fat fricking hands into everything.

I can't entirely say the same for Lanolin. She's fine, but apart from a brief flashback panel, she's an incredibly one-dimensional hard ass who just kinda got shoehorned into the main cast. If she had a side-comic or more time to develop properly, I'd probably like her more.

At least with Tangle and Whisper, we got a comic showing them off, but assuming everything from Issue 1 to now has taken place over the last couple months, they're trying to push them into a relationship way too quickly.

She definitely needs more time to be fleshed out, but with the current stories and arcs going on, I feel like that's either a while from happening or not gonna happen at all. If we had a side comic similar to Tangle and Whisper, it could give us better insight on how she works beyond what the comics explained to us in brief flashback panels or what she just tells us during the Eggperial City arc.

Good point, actually. Now that I think about it, she feels more like a vessel to help drive the story at the moment, rather than a character with her own ideas or opinions. The recent Whisper vs Mimic plot they're doing isn't doing her any favors.

I assume Stanley is trying to go for something like when Sonic dragged Silver in front of a heavily injured Antoine to apologize for suspecting him as a traitor, which while a good moment was not worth all the other time Silver wasted going "Someone on the Freedom Fighters is a traitor!", which should've ended by the 220s when the answer was Geoffrey.

I heavily doubt Sega mandated Tangle and Whisper to be lesbians.

NTA, but the problem is that these writers is that they are used to write their yaoi fanfiction where the sole attribute to the characters was being gay (or whatever sexual minority you want to include nowadays).

So, as has been said many times in many other media, the problem with current writing is that instead of introducing interesting characters who happen to be gay, they introduce characters whose single interesting point is being gay.

If you've ever seen any 3D model comics there's usually a stiffness and uncanny look to them. Tracing those models maintains that awkwardness. Visually we prefer a little imperfection in our art

No, it was mostly during the unnoficial Ride, it didn't happen to me with GOTF (I overall don't care about Evan), but sometimes I would post my thoughts on the topic of certain comics' writing, and 2 or 3 anons would get very, and I mean very, defensive about them.
The main point in common in all those comics, was that either the art was great and/or the artist was a fanfavorite.

It's really been interesting to read through a lot of the older Archie comics. I remember years ago Archie fans would hype these stories up as "the Golden Age" before the comic went downhill, but it's mostly been gag-a-day stories and comedies.

Did Archie fans genuinely like the comedy stories that much, or were they just viewing them with nostalgia goggles because of how bad shit like DESTINY and The Slap got? Or were they including Penders' earlier works in the "Golden age?" It's interesting to think about.

At the point they were, they should have just renamed themselves the Cinemaphile's Sonic General... which was still saner than /vg/'s, funny enough
