The real question here is why Batman doesn't use magic. He totally could, he has all the background and potential to be a really powerful magic user.

The Killing Joke had Barbara shot, undressed, photographed and POSSIBLY raped by the Joker in an attempt to get Jim to go crazy like him.

So how does that translate to Gordon being a raper?

I cannot give you the full logical chain of custody but the meme is clearly a reactionary response to the Killing Joke movie adaptation. Where the aformentioned torture of both Gordons happens. Then when Jim is rescued he yells at Batman to bring the Joker in "by the book.". Showing that the philosophical point pushed by the Joker throughout: that everyone is just one bad day away from going crazy was wrong.

The context lost is that this is a reaction to specifically that scene. A revision so that instead of Gordon taking the high road: he'd tell Batman to rape the Joker instead. Maybe the original point that since rape is apparently a life-changing event it could 'fix' the Joker, mayber there was not point except the Lulz.

I can't find evidence of that phrase being used on Cinemaphile before 2016. https://desuarchive.org/co/search/text/gordon%2Bjoker%2Brape/page/37/

Every hit before this post on Apr 19th 2016 https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/81996528/#81996629 I can find is actually debating whether or not the Joker would want to in general, or in this specific case would rape Barbara because it doesn't align with the goal or his personality that week. Maybe it was uttered in a different phrasing in some place earlier but it's clearly where it took off since the 3 pages after this cover 4 years of post history - less than 1 page per year, and the 37 are everything since 2016 or around 5 pages per year.

I think jimbo may have been raped too by the joker's goonies, or at the very least badtouched as Batman finds him naked and bound. What is kore emasculating, morr mentally damaging, more jokercrimespreeending than male on male sodomy? Conversively, don't drop the soap might work better as prevention than deterrent.

in Identity Crisis I believe it was called Dr. Light used his powers to break into the Watchtower and violently raped Elongated Man's wife
some of the leaguers wanted to kill him, batman and a couple other heroes got very angry at the prospect
to stop the Justice League from imploding Zatanna mind wiped the league about the rape and used magic to lobotomize him because she couldn't go through with killing him
anyway that's how he became the goofy mostly harmless Teen Titans villain

Batman eventually found out and got pretty butthurt at Zatanna and became even more paranoid about superpower havers

I don't think they ever discussed killing him. Hawkman suggested they mess with Light's mind to make him less vile, a lot of the leaguers objected, then they put it to a vote. The ones voting to lobotmize him won, so they went through with it, but Batman walked in on it while they were at it and kicked up a fuss, so Zatanna wiped his memory of the incident.

Don't forget that the story showed Bruce being perfectly okay with erasing memories when it was his identity on the line. Or that he sends his villains to an insane asylum so they can be psychologically altered.

Both of you are forgetting that is not "the whole league" they are literally 8 people ElongatedMan, Arrow, Zatanna, Black Canary, The Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman and Batman, as soon as Dr. Light was held down by them and they were preparing to take him back Batman had to answer Jim Gordon and left the scene, according to Arrow both Superman and Batman used to do that, "leave the cleaning" to the others due to their busy agendas. So they decided to make Light forget, but also to make him stupid, you can't blame them Light was literally showing off how he raped her and even Elongated said that they have never seen someone acting that crazy not even in Arkham (I beg to differ but the idea is that the man was out of his mind, he had found a victim he wanted to repeatedly rape).

Thing is the vote about ruining Light's mind divided them already enough, but then came Batman...

Don't forget that the story showed Bruce being perfectly okay with erasing memories when it was his identity on the line. Or that he sends his villains to an insane asylum so they can be psychologically altered.

That last part, you will have to share a page or something, I don't really remember well

I doubt Batman had any issue with them wiping Light's memories, he came back because he did care about Sue, Elongated's wife, I can even imagine him suggesting the wiping or placing him in a different place where noone can see him for a really, really long time, but he would never agree to them destroying Light's mind or at least not without troubles, so they decided to wipe Bruce's memories of the scene, thing is Batman had trained his mind for different things and even if Zatanna did a good job he knew something was off, and there are many instances where those involved make it obvious that they are hiding something and he knows, even Superman knows, they speak about it in Identity Crisis as well.

But yeah, going to the topic at hand brought by OP, this is one of the main reasons Zatanna and Bruce have troubles being in good terms afterwards, he knows she did something to him or his memories, they more or less work it out and become friends again and even the whole spark of love is still there but both push it away inside them because they know they can't.

                pretty much

We don't really know because they had already done something about it when he was back, we also don't know what is Batman's procedure when rape happens, the Killing Joke has Joker showing Jim pictures of Barbara naked and probably some blood due to him shooting her moments before, but that's it there was never really any implication of him raping her, we see Barbara telling Batman that she saw Joker a lot crazier than usual but rape doesn't fall into the way that particular Joker works.

IB4 someone shows the picture of that one time we saw Joker talking with some guy after raping his wife as a way to "get back on him", the idea tied up with the whole three Jokers plot that came years later.

Also, worth noting you seem to imply that what the other guys choose to do solved things, but just so you know Light is shown raping again later on when he remembers and is even shown "practicing" with some women he dressed up like the Teen Titans, if memory serves well there was one like Donna, Raven and one like Starfire, it is implied he has been doing it for a while, and before anyone says he was only "about to" the girls are both scared and with their clothes torn in every erogenous zone.

                >we also don't know what is Batman's procedure when rape happens
Mad Hatter has raped at least a dozen little blonde children and in DKR Joker raped Catwoman (and another woman + possibly Jason), went to jail, then 10 years later busted out and raped her again. Also in other stories like Azzarello when Joker rapes people Batman is fine with it. Joker has also trafficked child prostitutes in canon and Batman only arrested a child trafficking ring at one point.

Instead of crowbarring Dkr Jason, he gets his thugs to knock him out, then the ending shot is Joker sitting next to a fireplace and a bearskin rug saying they’re gonna have so much fun together.

                Two things to note
Azzarello likely ghostwrote this from Miller's idea(at least from what we've gathered how they made these new TDK works)
they basically go with the Jim Starlin idea of Jason as a headstrong, scrappy kid instead of the more wholesome and capable pre-crisis Jason he should be.

Like seriously, she is half demon, in that state she can probably see peoples secrets, feelings or sins, so it brings the question, what the frick did she do to Dr Light?

Yeah, some characters are rarely brought up again because of that reason, remember Felix Faust? That guy who help Hades escape his prison and Hades paid him with his ultimate knowledge? That one is also a rapist, and not even a random girl or some heroine, he rapes Black Adam's wife.

So whenever they bring him (like in Justice League Dark) I always pay attention to see if they are dropping some reference to one of those moments or something.

I'd read that Elseworlds. Bruce Wayne veering off after meeting with Zatara and getting deep into the magic side of DC. Studying with Dr. Fate, palling around with John Constantine...

Would it mean magical versions of his rogues gallery?

I could see him using a light bit of magic or knowing magic principles enough to manipulate forces or deduce a ritual. Morrison's Batman: Gothic played with it well, but I could see it working up to about Hellboy levels

One of my favorite quotes from Batman Beyond is from the episode Revenant where Terry sarcastically asks if Bruce believes in ghosts.
        >Bruce Wayne: "These people believe anything they can't explain is magic."
        >Terry McGinnis: "Naturally, you don't believe in that kind of thing."
        >Bruce Wayne: "Of course I do. I've seen it all: Demons, witch boys, immortals, zombies. But this thing... I don't know. It just feels so... high school."

Yeah I think this is more the way to do it, full-time magic requires a lot of dedication that Batman uses for other things, so just having enough knowledge to defeat really minor magic usage and know when the real experts need to be called in for harder stuff would suffice
He could also bankroll wizard towers and sanctuaries around Gotham, cover the place in protective wards using just the right pieces of real estate and feng shui

Just ignoring the creative mandate and appeal of the character, how well could Bruce even use DC magic? He is not a homosexual Magi nor does he have access to something like the Helmet of Fate. He could go the Constantine route but, would Bruce be willing to go down it? There is also the question of does Bruce go full magic or does Batman (or whatever Bruce may call himself) also have some meaningful level of typical Batman skills? If he has both then it leads to a jack of all trades master of none situation.

I'd read that Elseworlds. Bruce Wayne veering off after meeting with Zatara and getting deep into the magic side of DC. Studying with Dr. Fate, palling around with John Constantine...

Would it mean magical versions of his rogues gallery?

      >Would it mean magical versions of his rogues gallery?
Depends on the above - what abilities does this Batman actually have? Of his existing rogues gallery: Ra's al Ghul, Poison Ivy, Clayface, Man-Bat and Solomon Grundy each from a creative standpoint will thematically work with a Batman that is a low-level magic-user or as weaker magic/supernatural/monster rogues for one that is a middle-level magic-user. Mobsters (with the exception of perhaps Ventriloquist) and various non-powered supervillains do not have a place in the rogues gallery of a middle-level magic-using Batman and arguably not even a low-level one. It seems difficult to account for Batman's existing rogues, unless it is some Elseworld magic-dominated Earth, having magic. Perhaps the best thing is not so much give Batman actual magic that is practically reality warping but, instead make him more versed on the magic that is the occult and have him face such occult threats.

        Anonymous

        >with the exception of perhaps Ventriloquist
Ventriloquist definitely belongs in magic Batman-verse. Isn't Scarface canonically carved from the wood of the old Gallows Tree at Blackgate? That's straight up necromancy.

          Anonymous

          >Scarface
It is generally unclear whether it is supernatural or just mental illness on the part of Ventriloquist. The Ventriloquist works best when it is treated as being mental illness but, with that slither of suggestion that makes the reader question that answer. In any case, it still comes down to how magically powerful Batman is - as ultimately Ventriloquist/Scarface is just a mobster. If you make Bruce a powerful magic user (like Doctor Fate or Strange) then his rogue gallery is unworkable from either a thematic or power scale. Batman as he typically is plus with magic on someone like Constantine's level? He is also too powerful for his rogues from a creative perspective and you just have batwank. Even weak magic is often powerful. If you want something resembling Batman, Bruce with magic needs to be a low-tier magic user (thematically leaning into gothic occultism and not reality warping) and also have some of his typical Batman skills scaled-down.

I mean, sure, but this also seems like a pretty uncreative and uninteresting interpretation of the prompt. Assuming we have low-level magic Batman (Hellboy - Constantine - maybe even Indiana Jones level, I think Dr Fate / Strange is too much wankery) why can't the rogues be similarly adjusted for the setting? Case in point, I imagine Scarface could actually have the ghosts of 300+ executed criminals in him which have potentially been scheming for decades or centuries before being picked up by the Ventriloquist. I can also picture a fun, Lovecraftian Two Face inspired by Rogue Sun...

              Anonymous

The problem with 'What if Batman but also magic?' is it easily stops resembling Batman in a meaningful way or amounts to nothing more than a cosmetic change. Occult stuff in Batman is interesting as it fits into the inherent gothic atmosphere of his setting but, it is something that Batman is not used to or particularly equipped in dealing with. If you are going to do Batman meets magic you don't want sorcerer Batman, you want detective and (nominally) nonsuperhuman/powered Batman who finds himself regularly being an occult detective and monster hunter.

You see the problem with Damian Wayne has always been governed by three things: An accident, drama bait, and constant immaturity.

In a lack of a better words, Damian was an accident. In storyline, he was never met to be something greater. He was merely a thought brought back from Kingdom Come. Here's the thing, he was always an accident back in KC, and now. He is an unintentional being, brought forth only for drama bait, not his character development but a reaction to him.. His entire existent exists is that. `Now that's fine and dandy, the character could be something greater due to the drama he brings, but here's the thing. He's stuck in a constant state of ass whining, it's like a piece of turd stuck in your rectum that won't come out. He's an accidental poop that just won't come out, and be gone with it.

He's an accident, and keeps making accidents. It's what he's known for nowadays, like how Tim Drake is known for being gay, Dick Grayson with a large ass, Jason Todd being a loner baby, and Bruce Wayne being a loner. He's a constant accident who keeps making it, and ultimately makes him an idiot who refuses to learn by design. It's like seeing someone that tries their hardest to win but always looses at the end. Kinda pathetic really, and makes you wanna just not see the character anymore. Though, that'd probably a better fate.

Damian really should have been killed, and forgotten. He could have been the New Jason Todd to inspire Tim and Bruce to become greater characters. Instead, he's an accidental boy who whines only to please the crowd when he gets abused by other members of the DC universe. He is literally built for abuse. Is that what you want from a character? Abuse? Do Damian Wayne fans really want to see their character be in constant abuse?
What I'm saying is that Damian is a piece of turd, it's gross to look at, but you just want to see it a split second and leave. Problem is, the smell is still with you.

You soon find out that Batman is actually an evil character filled the most damaged thoughts. He’s not a hero. Don't like one Marvel comic? Well, you are fricked, every single Marvel comic is from the same team of editors and executives with the same political views and personal taste, the characters are all fully owned by the company as well and the character creators have no control over it, even the character fans can't do shit because they have so many characters they can just easily cancel one comic and focus on others like happened to Punisher.
