I would expect it to be an endless, tiresome riff on the current state of hollywood. Jokes about superhero movies and cinematic universes and rebooting and remakes and streaming services.
these
+ none of the jokes are gonna touch on any of the actual dangerous statements to make about hollywood because the creator doesn't wanna get kill-himself'd, so he just makes a buncha 'safe' jokes like "haha disney is kinda kitschy and some celebs r dumb"
If they wanted to make a commentary about Hollywood here's what they could do. Set it in the mid to late 1950's when the rise of television and public moving away from big studio films is causing the end of the "golden age" of Hollywood. Have Danny and Sawyer as a big famous musical star couple who suddenly find themselves losing their star power and relevance and growing uncertain if their careers can keep going. It shouldn't be a totally glum and sombre character piece, it could end on a high note with the two of them bowing out gracefully or heading off to Broadway instead? Look at the way Hollywood's going today, with studios once again trying to adjust to new home viewing tech as big budget productions and movie stars steadily lose relevance in the popular zeitgeist. A story like this could be interesting and relevant under the right crew... which sadly doesn't exist anymore in animation, and even if it did WB still wouldn't go through with it. Oh well.

I hate how Hellsing Abridged has almost completely eclipsed the original series. DBZ fandom was big enough to handle it but Hellsing was too small.
Yeah it's actually really bad. 90% of the people who watched Abridged hadn't even heard of Hellsing beforehand I was one of them, but I got into Ultimate long before abridged finished.
Hellsing was boring however it made up for it with visuals, soundtrack, and the last episode with the primordial super vampire. Hellsing Ultimate ramps up the story with both a unique art style, visuals, soundtrack, and the good ol' ultra violence
While also making Alucard a super vampire. Go figure
>Sequel set about 10 years later >This is going to be late 1940s or so, but around the point female stars are starting to get more serious recognition >Have Darla now climbing her way back into stardom faced with a few other former child actresses all hitting their prime and all in competition to become the biggest starlet in Hollywood >Darla's biggest flaw is she still has too much of her adorable childlike qualities in her appearance >She can't pull off the sexy seductive look some of the other young actresses can >Meanwhile the animals are facing a similar issue >They're still treated as the sappy light hearted type of stars >Just like Darla, they're still typecast in movies meant for kids >Darla wants to make a big serious movie to propel herself into more dramatic adult roles for herself >The animals need a serious movie to show they have real acting chops >This leads to an unlikely alliance where both need each other but hate one another's guts >Darla still has the fortune to bankroll one last blockbuster movie >The Animals have the only studio that will give her the chance to be a big leading actress in a role no one thinks she can handle >Naturally nether wants to do it >But Darla is sitting on one last script from a now dead, legendary screenwriter who had envisioned a big movie that needed animal actors >And the studio the animals are in control of just signed on their first human actor, a young man with the looks and acting skills the be a great leading man >They need each other too much not to make this movie together >But can they really put the past behind them to pull this off?
I would like that. Include some bits about Danny doing War Shorts for the troops and you got a deal.
Maybe include something about how dangerous Hollywood is for a child and a woman to work in for Darla, really give her some pathos for a change.
>What I love
This synopsis in general. That the idea of Darla and the animals working together instead of being out right adversaries lends immensely to the theme of "maturity". To forgive, compromise, cooperate, and overcome are mature things to do.
>What I hate
Once again, an internet rando comes up with a solid idea meanwhile there's a room full of certified and paid writers that some how keep coming up with shit (on average that is)
There is a difference between working for a paycheck and working for a passion, sadly. You can take a guess as to which one usually gets the leadership roles.
>Darla's biggest flaw is she still has too much of her adorable childlike qualities in her appearance
I like the idea of them having to set aside their differences to save a film, like a reversal of the first movie, but the idea that an actress would become unpopular with Hollywood producers because she looks like a young girl might require too much suspension of disbelief.
No one said she was unpopular. But she isn't going to be THE leading lady in a major film, just relegated to the smaller roles, the loveable young girl character who you like to see but isn't a Rita Hayworth or Judy Garland. Darla needs to be given the chance to prove herself or else her baby face quality is going to keep her typecast in the cutesy roles.
Glad this film never got a low effort ‘direct to VHS’ sequel and also bombed so hard that a reboot is out of the question. I speak from a place of love when I say: it deserves to be left in the 90s
>a reboot is out of the question.
Thank goodness. A reboot would 100% make the "animals = minorities" sub plot the whole focus and it would either go in on that way too hard and come off very clumsy and juvenile and patronizing, or go the Zootopia route by making the message so vague and meandering that it ends up saying nothing.
>Danny gets Drafted >Immediately gets discharged due to being a scrawny, awkward built guy not suitable for war >Instead makes American propaganda films
I would say having them become either writers, producers, or directors when their acting career are diminishing. As for darla, she gives up her acting her career with going back to school and start another career.
they'd make her look like future mandy from underfist. She'd never in a million years get to grow up sexy and stay cute, it ruins the mentality of once bad always bad. Plus it's widely known and accepted this movie is about racism she'd be lucky to even be alive in the sequel.
But I wouldn't mind a movie about her and a redemption of her basically playing on how a child actor can become toxic, because of abuse or all the fame and control a kid shouldn't be given at such a age. Imagine her basically having to start over and try and make a come back feeling like her life is over and she's over the hill joke is she's literally like early to mid 20s. But for her the peak was like 5 or 10 so for 10+ years she's been on the massive decline. Imagine the OP trying to make a come back but she's basically getting the reverse of the first movie it's a different age and now she's blacklisted and because of her catism she's massively hated. It's all about her realizing she was wrong and that maybe she can change and become a better person less of a Diva and start over as a happier better actress.

Ha idk if Gert could beat Max she'd more likely just stumble onto a win. Gert is strong to fairytale losers but gets her ass beaten by more competent hard asses.
She's literally a lucky jobber some times but what would she do to Darla after she beats Max.
Why not her getting lovingly topped while some gently wipe her tears away, and she learns to trust and truly be cared for after years of being egotistical and used for her appearance and talent?
yep, want to save older darla kid darla not so much she's too schizo kek. I see her being humbled a bit by her failing and loss of her massive fame and money. Also find it weird how many shirley temple clones that are evil and schizos like was she a lil diva or something and it was well known? or it's just a easy target for evil kid vibes?
Yeah. He tried to take over the show, it was really bad. Darla being a racist supervillain felt like the writers trying to cover up the fact that MC was a bad person.
To be fair based on some actor friends I have they are very hard on autist newbies no matter what. As it's all about perception and professionalism, so if you came on set and ruined a shot everyone else is paying for it as you have to reset it and depending on it cost 100s if not 1000s of dollars depending on the type of shot. Plus if you are a nobody even more reason to be pissed as you were given a shot and you tried to be the star when you aren't. They are a brute group it seems so her reaction seems quite real and understandable. Time is literally money and you're wasting hers with your autistic sperging.
Yeah. He tried to take over the show, it was really bad. Darla being a racist supervillain felt like the writers trying to cover up the fact that MC was a bad person.
Huh more you say it more I think I remember. He is very honestly very up his own ass at times if I'm remembering correctly forcing his mentality on people. He's nice guy but didn't pay attention to how he kind of was autism sperging out.
IIRC, the whole point behind Danny, at first, is that he has highly idealistic expectations of Hollywood, and like half the movie is him getting knocked down a peg.

Makes sense, still kind of makes Darla more justified.
I’ve always wondered if the poster montage at the ending was canon, like all of Danny’s animal friends really lived until the mid-late 1990s (The Mask and Batman and Robin posters) since the movie is in 1939
Likely not canon. Batman and Robin seemed the most out of place and since it came a few months after this movie it was probably demanded by WB (otherwise why would they not do Batman Returns instead?)
You can also say like with LT logic that the characters are actually 90s actors and the entire film itself is them acting out a 30s set piece film and then the end has teasers for their other films
CG art and terrible writing.
The worst writing you've ever seen
Don't forget the boring designs
megamind 2 cashgrab level quality.

Would the cats have aged to the point of having passed away by the time Darla reached this age?
>animals are clearly a funny stand in for minorities
>she yells I HATE ANIMALS at full volume and with zero shame
She's too based for this gay future.
This is a great aged up Darla
It truly is. It keeps key details from her original design and the new stuff isn't weird to see in her, and it looks like a natural progression
I see why they call her Dimple.
Swayer and Danny go out of style after a few years so they have to star in porn films now to stay in Hollywood
They would probably be rich from it.
Darla finding alternate methods of employment.

It took catching a glimpse of this version of Darla for 2 seconds for me to become obsessed with it.
they'd make her look like future mandy from underfist. She'd never in a million years get to grow up sexy and stay cute, it ruins the mentality of once bad always bad. Plus it's widely known and accepted this movie is about racism she'd be lucky to even be alive in the sequel.

By a cat? Do you mean you want to see her getting hate fricked by a cat? You degenerate?
Not what I meant.
Very nice
Darla was completely justified in being mad at Danny by the way. He shows up on set one day, upstages her and ruins the production.
Wait is that really how it happened???
Yeah. He tried to take over the show, it was really bad. Darla being a racist supervillain felt like the writers trying to cover up the fact that MC was a bad person.
That part of the movie is very biased towards Danny but to be fair that was more out of him being a naive newcomer.

Limited cats and no dancing, alternatively limited dancing no cats. Also some lesbian that gets more focus than anyone care about.

The fact they look more like Anime characters turned into cats instead of genderbent Danny(Dani) & Sawyer(Tom?) will always be jarring to me.
not exactly my favorite art either but it is the only attempt at the idea, as far as I know. Their heart's in the right place.
