it'd be fricking weird not to.
It would be weird not to go back to before he was born, honestly. give Batman a solid solo career period, THEN bring back Dick as a 12/13 year old.
>give Batman a solid solo career period, THEN bring back Dick as a 12/13 year old.
They could have Batman fight his early enemies like Hugo Strange, Doctor Death, and the Monk before introducing Robin and then the familiar villains like Joker, Scarecrow, Penguin, ect.
That’s interesting. Like have the Flying Graysons be friends of Bruce before they die? That would probably make sense story wise, the rich guy adopting the kid of his friends after their deaths. Maybe you could even have Bruce learn some of his acrobatics from circus performers and that’s how he meets the Grayson family. This is all starting to come together.
well I meant like, have the adoption plot come years before the 'now he is Robin' plot.
So for a while you get like, Bruce trying to balance being a father, reluctantly asking Alfred to do most of the heavy lifting, young Dick showing he's adapting to the tragedy okay, Bruce being proud of him and letting him know that during his free moments, etc.
No. More like Bruce sees the Graysons die, saves Grayson, then trains him, intensely, till he becomes Robin.
Also go back to the classic explanation of the Robin identity. Dick wanting to save the day and rescue the girl and help the little guy is cool. The songbird origin is dumb.
>Like have the Flying Graysons be friends of Bruce before they die
That was the case in one of the radio dramas from the 40s. Dick’s mom was a French gypsy on the run from the Nazis, and the circus ringleader had her and Dick’s dad killed as service to them.
Honestly I really like this and I'm surprised it isn't done more. Its weird to think about Batman reading the paper, finding out a family died except for one kid and going "Yep that's the one"
Batman was only solo for like 11 months before Robin was added and adaptations already love to parade him around as a some loner solo acting. Starting a reboot with him having to learn how to mentor/raise a kid who could easily become everything he hates about himself is a much more interesting pitch then just another young solo Batman.
DC should just be bold, brave, and continue inexorably onward. Rebooting is passe, and their big characters will enter the public domain soon. They should focus on giving them one last epic myth arc before they're released to the world, and not be afraid to evolve.
They could have their regular universe new earth or earth 1 or whatever it's called age in real time and have the classics pass the identity to their sidekicks and/or kids and retire but maybe come back once in a while for a team up or event or something and then have them die eventually and a new universe where they start from scratch with like 20 year old Superman, Batman etc. They tried with Earth 2 New 52 but that didn't work out, and then they tried again with earth 2 Society.
Only first appearance Batman will enter the public domain. It’ll be years before we get the most iconic elements to the character. Same with Superman. Can’t even use the traditional S symbol for a couple decades.
The problem is that you get none of the development those characters get in later years. For example, you can’t have Catwoman resembling later incarnations without ensuring a lawsuit.
If they rebooted and didn't tell the exact same story all over again I'd get mad. I'd rant for days about how comics are dead for not telling me the exact same stories I've read over and over again. I'd call it woke garbage and I'd send the writers death threats on Twitter.
Dick as Robin again in World's Finest has been great. He's like 15/16 but has been Robin probably like 5 years. He and Bruce have a really strong dynamic but the universe feels early enough where it isn't bogged down with endless amounts of characters. I'd do something similar to that.
I think it's too late for that, you could I think do Tim as a small kid again because it's not like he has anything going on just hard restart him. Hopefully they would have the foresight to not use the situation to push the 12 year old confused with his sexuality.
We've had a bazillion years of teenage Robin Dick Grayson, I'd rather the full reboot pick up with Bruce retired and Dick as Batman, or even pull an Earth-2 and make him an adult Robin. Everyone knows the cliffnotes version of Bruce and Dick's story ad nauseum; you don't need to repeat it for the thousandth time.
Not really.
There were just 28 years of the classic dynamic duo. Then 15 years of Dick fricking around at college and doing his own thing. Then he dropped out for good and became Nightwing.
There are nearly no modern stories focusing on that classic dynamic duo era. Most retellings of the big events from those books are done to remove Robin completely.
A modern Batman and Robin book set during those early days would be great.
>There are nearly no modern stories focusing on that classic dynamic duo era.
Because there are no more stories to tell about that era, unless you're either regurgitating something already done, or cannibalizing other characters just to make Dick different from how he used to be.
Yes, the story of him trying to get out from under Batman's shadow is the most/only interesting thing about Nightwing. If you don't start him off as Robin there's no reason for him to exist at all
If DC does a true hard reboot. We will Dick as nightwing and Damian as teenage Robin. Tim drake will become detached from the bat family and becomes a Batwoman supporting character.
it'd be fricking weird not to.

also, introduce 8 year old Dick long before you make him Robin

Ah, I see. Show the parts before Bruce decides to take a partner.
No. More like Bruce sees the Graysons die, saves Grayson, then trains him, intensely, till he becomes Robin.
Also go back to the classic explanation of the Robin identity. Dick wanting to save the day and rescue the girl and help the little guy is cool. The songbird origin is dumb.
You’re referring to the Robin Hood name origin?
>Also go back to the classic explanation of the Robin identity
Please God
>Like have the Flying Graysons be friends of Bruce before they die
That was the case in one of the radio dramas from the 40s. Dick’s mom was a French gypsy on the run from the Nazis, and the circus ringleader had her and Dick’s dad killed as service to them.
Dick’s dad even used his dying words to not only tell him who did it, but to also take care of his son.
>Dick’s mom was a French gypsy
Holy shit, Devon took that from a radio show?(granted she had it be Dick's dad)
I never knew this! That’s awesome.
Honestly I really like this and I'm surprised it isn't done more. Its weird to think about Batman reading the paper, finding out a family died except for one kid and going "Yep that's the one"
It does kind of fit. Bruce training with skilled acrobats and developing a friendship with a family of them makes sense.
He became friends with them in The Batman cartoon.
Never knew that either. I stopped watching before Robin was introduced.
anon, he was at the show, how casual are you? Like every depiction shows that.
There is plenty of early Bruce as Batman solo stuff though.
Batman was only solo for like 11 months before Robin was added and adaptations already love to parade him around as a some loner solo acting. Starting a reboot with him having to learn how to mentor/raise a kid who could easily become everything he hates about himself is a much more interesting pitch then just another young solo Batman.
>go back to before he was born
You think Bruce had been Batman for ten fricking years before he found Dick? Are you moronic?
DC should just be bold, brave, and continue inexorably onward. Rebooting is passe, and their big characters will enter the public domain soon. They should focus on giving them one last epic myth arc before they're released to the world, and not be afraid to evolve.

They haven’t been that for a while now.

Batman and Gordon in 1939
Robin, Joker, and Catwoman in 1940
Basically all the classic villains within those first 10 years.
You don't need Alfred.
What's the problem?
The problem is that you get none of the development those characters get in later years. For example, you can’t have Catwoman resembling later incarnations without ensuring a lawsuit.
Well considering World's Finest is the best Batman and Robin dynamic since Dick and Damian, sure.
>Dick and Damian
I just want this back.
Late 2000's to early 2010's DC was the last time I was excited to read comics. It wasn't always good but it was interesting and had some great hits.
>would you be okay with Robin being a teenage Dick Grayson again?
Frick no, it would mean having to stomach Dick being with the Titans.
I would prefer 12-13 year old Dick instead.
Should be more careful with your choice of wording next time
I should have clarified, by teenage Dick Grayson I meant whatever age he is when he first becomes Robin.
Eight?
It’s varied over the years.
Careful with that proper noun usage, without capitalisation that sentence has a completely different meaning.
Of course. They should have done it in the New 52.
If they rebooted and didn't tell the exact same story all over again I'd get mad. I'd rant for days about how comics are dead for not telling me the exact same stories I've read over and over again. I'd call it woke garbage and I'd send the writers death threats on Twitter.
have a nice day.
Awww. Someone felt directly mocked.
If it's a full reboot from the very beginning then I'd probably want that to be the case.
Dick as Robin again in World's Finest has been great. He's like 15/16 but has been Robin probably like 5 years. He and Bruce have a really strong dynamic but the universe feels early enough where it isn't bogged down with endless amounts of characters. I'd do something similar to that.
dick was only good as robin. nightwing is a garbage character.
I think it's too late for that, you could I think do Tim as a small kid again because it's not like he has anything going on just hard restart him. Hopefully they would have the foresight to not use the situation to push the 12 year old confused with his sexuality.
No one likes Tim though
That's why you do him you have nothing to lose in throwing away all his shit. The other 2 at least have fans, Damien is whatever.
Nobody cares about Tim Drake.
Also, literally what does that change besides wiping out Jason and Damian?
Tim has more fans who are paying customers...provided you're selling the Tim they like and not what DC sells these days.
Dick hasn't been Robin in the mainline DCU for 40 years though right?
Basically. He became Nightwing in the 80s.
Not really.
There were just 28 years of the classic dynamic duo. Then 15 years of Dick fricking around at college and doing his own thing. Then he dropped out for good and became Nightwing.

Really? Because books like World's Finest have proven that there's plenty more stories to tell.

Yes, undercover DC employee. Now give me Dick Robin!
You got it, buddy. Two more weeks.
yea
Someone should do Batman without Robin edits, like those Garfield without Garfield edits.
I think he'd have to be 18
