If I were wanting to hire a translator to work on 1993's Gridman to give it some actually decent subs instead of the almost crabsticks that are on Mill Creek's release, where would I go to look for one?

Seriously, I'm legit willing to pay someone for competent fansubs of Gridman.

I think somebody asked Heatmetal from Overtime subs what the going rate would be and it was something like $300 for two episodes. Depends on who you hire and how good they are, or how much of an existing workload they have. If you have Japanese subtitle transcripts it makes things a lot easier for the translator, they don't have to listen and translate it by ear which is an issue for older series. Either way you're probably going to have to handle the subtitle timing by yourself unless you want to pay someone else to do it, and that's easily the most tedious part of the process.

I was just going to co-op the timings from the already existing Mill Creek subs, honestly, since those already seem to be perfectly serviceable.

$300/2 episodes means that if I were to find an amicable translator then the series should be completely done in about 20 months or so with my current budget/income (2 episodes/month)

Do you mean Tsuburaya Productions? Or someone else by the name of tsubu on there?

Tsuburaya Productions and Ultraman connect are the mean twitters and they need to fix a lot of shows including The Ultraman and Cosmos.

Ginga S's subs are pretty rough in the last quarter too. Same goes for its movie.

There's a really weird lack of contractions even in the good Ultraman subs that just screams non-native speakers translating.

Yeah. It's clearly a bunch ESL folks, even in the translations that are a bit more competent. It means stuff's a little stiff for a lotta their translations. But, I'll take stiff and somewhat dry over how flowery and liberal a lot of other companies' output is.

Gridman with the crabsticks is just pure soul, it genuinely adds to the atmosphere
Besides, it's a fun show and all with literally the greatest OP of all time, but it's not that complex

      >tfw fricking CHAVS ruin your day so you hack their house to burn down

It's always fun seeing Britishisms creep into Chinese machine crabsticks, that old Hong Kong connection alive and well.

This kid was going to star in the sequel right? How does the ending redeem him from the guy trying to burn down a hospital right from the get go?

We will never know, he did start to change at the end of the series but his road to redemption would have been in Sigma.

The anime short version is the dude after a big puberty glow-up.

They got the original actor back to do the voice too.

Nah, it was Koichi Yamadera playing Takeshi in Boys Invent Great Hero.

Takeshi's OG actor didn't do anything else, sadly. Much like the rest of Gridman's kids.

Is it weird that I like Takeshi using kaiju mire because he used in such different way such as poisoning water supply or messed up the time or make pollution or turn women into gyaru more than Akane who just used it for killing people

Wait, is that meant to be evil?
