You have an eternity at your hands. It wouldn't be possible to make anything artistic because it would be gone in a day. The best thing you could do with all that time is learn everything there is to know and teach yourself everything you can. Just like he did. Oh, and suicide and crime just to shake things up a little bit.

I honestly find it really unrealistic how every time loop story has its protagonist learn to do very difficult shit, if they didn't attempt to learn those things when their daily life was normal they sure as hell won't learn it in a time loop, especially when there's so much fricking around to be done in a time loop compared to living your normal life.

I think after a few decades of literally living the same day on repeat you'd eventually want to do something novel, like learn something new.

The point of the movie was that Phil had become dead inside. He was jaded and cynical and thought he'd seen everything. The time he spends looping does have some dicking around, but it also forces him to realize that life is only the same bullshit every day if you let it be that way.
