    >worst version of venom ever
    >sandman suddenly is connected to peter
    >new goblin dominates the first half of the movie instead of focusing on sandman
memes were the only thing keeping it watchable

It's really not good. It starts out with Peter being attacked by Harry as the evil snowboarder with a sword....calling himself green goblin. But he's a fricking snowboarder with no alteration in the costume or board.

Sandman is kind of cool and it looks like it really could have been a good classic Spidey movie like the other two if it was just him.

Venom never ever has his mask on, it's around for a total of like ...2 minutes whole film. Outside of that it's edgy Eric Foreman in a Spider-Man costume that looks like he spilled some old used motor oil on it. The evil Peter parts are just hard to watch, they are not even in that so bad it's funny. They are just hard to sit through.

It's a very fun, well produced turd. It doesn't really inspire much like 1 and 2 managed to do. It's objectively a fricking mess, and there's a lot of head-scratching inclusions like the soap-opera tier subplots of Sandman's daughter and everything to do with Harry and MJ. But it's packed with enough of that Raimiverse charm that it's still an enjoyable watch. The memes are half the fun.

i mean yeah, it's been said 100 times but it's not raimi's version.
      it's a shame

      >the soap-opera tier subplots of Sandman's daughter
THEY DON'T EVEN DO ANYTHING WITH THIS AFTER SANDMAN BECOMES SANDMAN

how the frick are you going to introduce a storyline like that, then throw it aside

thank God that Marvel got Spidey back because Sony was gonna keep fricking him up forever

iirc there was a whole subplot about Flint stealing money for Penny's treatment that got cut for some dumbass reason

I like to think once he saw his daughter he was over it (after all he was previously imprisoned and technically susceptible to being encountered out in the open and potentially foiled by the law or Spider Man right)

Has there ever actually been a good adaptation of the symbiote storyline outside of cartoons?

It's not as bad as the Amazing movies, but it's not as good as its predecessors. It's a rushed mess of storylines all vying for importance and losing almost all meaning by the end of the film. The only truly good things about it are the "Birth of Sandman" sequence and the memes it gave us.

Unpopular opinion: Sandman sucks as much as Venom does.
He has all the personality of a wooden plank, the ill daughter thing feels really tacked on like it's only there so he could have some meat to him as a character and I never liked him being Uncle Ben's killer. It seems like the only reason it's a thing is so Raimi could lead to "muh forgiveness" ending which didn't feel all that well executed.

It's good, the editor's cut would have been the definite version had it not been for the removal of the last aunt may scene and changing the music.

I'm really fricking sick of the spider-verse hype train. They're fine movies but they're nowhere near as good as people say, and second one's plot is so stupid it doesn't even belong in the top 5 of that list, let alone first place. Shit ranking

I love the scene where Peter tells Aunt May he killed Uncle Ben's killer. Gets me every time. These movies always have really good messages and the music is top notch.

The only thing I appreciate about it is that they remembered when it's on Peter or Eddie the living costume is supposed to look like a costume and not all goopy

Love Spider-man 1 the most, mostly for nostalgia and how comfy it is. Plus it gave me my first boner with this romantic as frick kiss scene. Like holy shit you'd never see something as sexy in a modern day cape movie

I actually prefer 1 to 2. I have my reasons
      >generally enjoy that "coming of age" vibe
      >that montage of Peter helping people after making his first costume, modern capeshit would just skip over it in favor of the big plot because writing heroic characters is a lost art. It's still present in other Raimi's movies but to a lesser extent.
      >I always preferred Norman to Otto
      >Raimi's MJ at her least insufferable, hell I'm even go on and say that I like MJ in the first movie
      >I love that final fight, I think it's one of my favorite fight scenes in all of capeshit if only for sheer brutality of it.

        Anonymous

Agree in some parts, like with MJ being a lot better (honestly I like her in the first movie, she's sweet and nice for the most part, and a qt), the ending fight being super brutal while you're hearing peter welp and grunt with every hit, you don't see that in any capeshit movies. personally I'm just not big on origin stories in general, even if it's handled well in the first, so seeing him struggle with maintaining the hero position was more interesting to me. Plus the fights in 2 were a lot better. 1 is personally my favorite but I feel like 2 is a better put together movie

Considering all the live action slop Marvel and DC is shovelling out these days I fear we didn't know how good we had it. It's still bad, but the kind of bad you can enjoy. It's a fun movie at worst and I believe that's okay.

even iron man 2 is better than spider-man 3
you would have to go all the way down to something like the eternals to have something on par with spider-man 3

With no hint of irony I say that Spider-Man 3 is based compared to anything after Endgame. Hell, Compared to everything after Endgame, combined.

I would rather have this bad but fun movie than those boring MCU Spider-Man movies, also MCU Peter is ironically a Miles Morales rip off rather than being based on comics Peter, wearing Miles suit, hanging out with Miles best friend, having Miles Morales arc of relying too much on more experienced heroes, being too passive etc.

It's got enough fun scenes/sequences to carry the film and make it not completely awful. The action is consistently all really well done, I like the black suit reveal, there's the birth of Sandman scene that everyone goes on about, and even Harry's death is pretty emotionally effective.
The film's BIG fricking problem is its absolute mess of a plot and moronic character moments. That's what kills it. Plotwise, you've got:
    >Sandman showing up
    >the symbiote showing up
    >Gwen Stacy showing up
    >Eddie Brock showing up
    >Harry becoming the new Goblin
    >Harry then getting amnesia and resetting his character for half the film
    >Sandman being linked to Uncle Ben's murder for some reason
    >a rushed black suit storyline
    >Venom showing up in the third act
    >Peter and MJ having the soapiest possible relationship problems
And then in between all that, connecting it, you've got a host of weird character decisions and moments. Obviously there's the Evil Peter montage that everyone laughs at, but then there's also shit like Harry's convoluted revenge scheme, Sandman's underbaked sick daugher plot, Harry's butler just simply not telling him about how his father really died until after he nearly gets killed by his best friend, and fricking everything about the Peter and MJ relationship, which is unbearable to watch.
You get the sense that maybe Raimi was just so pissed off at Avi Arad forcing Venom into his already-crowded film that he decided to go full cheese with the story.

Hot Take: The emo montage is MCU-tier shit. It takes what should be something serious then runs it to the ground for a joke.

        >The emo montage is MCU-tier shit.
thats probably why its the best part about the movie by a wide margin
in a movie weighted down by melodrama, its a scene thats actually both hilarious and memorable

Memorable for the wrong reasons, maybe.

That's really not a hot take at all, anon. That's the exact take most everyone had when the film came out.

        >The emo montage is MCU-tier shit.

But this is also true to some extent tbh. You're absolutely right about the melodrama, but I think the montage is only funny if you're expressly trying to take it as a comedy scene made for memes. It doesn't work nearly as well within the context of the film, which otherwise takes its drama and specifically the drama of the black suit pretty seriously.
It's a weird thing all round
