I don't think it could work on a writing level. Maybe x-men writers need her to have a story inside the X-men titles, that would clash with the romance development.

Nobody they throw at Peter will ever be as good as Chat was in the Marvel Adventures series. No, I don't want her in 616 where edgy writers will ruin her. She's in an enclosed timeline where she's safe from the Quesadas, Bendises and Slots of the world. We can just be tankful for what we had then and not have to imagine how they'd try and modernize her now.

I did, the most she has is the "admires phantom lady and has rivalry with emma frost (which is just over a guy)", she has a backstory, and its not unimpressive for a comfy kids book, but people vastly overstimate it for moments that honestly other LIs have also done, well only two (maybe 3 depending on how you see ult kitty) but still.
The fact that she isn't a c**t to Peter brings her far above the rest.
