If you ever wanted to know that why Japanese productions have to use locally made IPs, here is your answer as Scott wasn't the only thing that bombed.

This is a western book, it's as Cinemaphile as Scott.

>Cost $30 million to make.
>Only made back less then $500,000 because the IP isn't Japanese.

Then why do Disney movies make a lot of money over there?

Lack of locally made kids content, if the anime industry told otaku/China to frick off they will revert back to just kids/family movies.
      >In before The Imaginary was designed for streaming and DVD/Blu-Ray sales, not theatrical release.

Because Japan has always been Disney's biggest Asian market. Copying Disney aesthetics is a key part of anime's DNA, Emperor Hirohito was buried with his Mickey Mouse watch, and Tokyo Disney is the most successful of the overseas theme park complexes.

      They don't anymore.
Disney movies used to make gangbusters, and Frozen is still one of the biggest movies ever in Japan, but nowadays Disney movies struggle to break $15 million.
Even Wish, which people tried to paint as a standout success, only made $23 million in its run in Japan.

I can't find a source for this. Also Netflix got the rights of the film, so it won't be a complete loss.
    Thanks for the rec btw.

homie, Japan has an entire series of anime based on western IPs made by Nippon Animation Studios.

That died in 1997 because the source material wasn't Japanese and got replaced with Corrector Yui and Hunter X Hunter (before Madhouse took over the HXH IP).
Now of day all Nippon Animation does otaku crap like everyone else, with the only exception being Chibi Maruko-Chan.

Howl's Moving Castle is an anime movie with exclusively Japanese characters voices by Japanese people. Novels aren't Cinemaphile , it has no images so the anime movie has to make it up by using anime elements, anime philosophies, anime art design, anime animation, anime , everything.

Scott Pilgrim's character designer and writer are both white guys. Imaginary movie has character designer and writer from Japanese anime people. Can you compare the official Cinemaphilemic character design of Imaginary novelty hat doesn't exist?

And you're constantly talking about Japan which is of east origin while Scott Pilgrimgaya talks about the actual story and characters

Those "white guys" live in Japan and have done so for years, thats a loop hole within Japanese law when it comes to anime.

Stop making shit up to post anime. Bryan O Malley and BenDavid Grabinski loves in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile the director of Imaginary , Yoshiyuki Momose, and the writer and producer of the anime, Yoshiaki Nishimura, loves in Tokyo

                A. F. Harold didn't write it or direct it or produce it and especially didn't DRAW it. The image is exclusively Japanese. A.F. Harold did not storyboard or design the character or colored it, it's completely an anime image

I don't think a single person involved in Scott Pilgrim was expecting it to do well in Japan, it was made for an American audience familiar with the movie and any westaboos who saw it were just a bonus
