If you had to recommend just one horror film released in the last decade, what would it be?

A Ghost Story
The Night House is the one I would recommend. Absolutely elite ghost/haunted house horror.
But since we're not limited to just one I would also recommend:
>Southbound (anthology)
>A Dark Song (occult/mystic/religious horror)
A Ghost Story isn't horror.
Autopsy of Jane Doe is great
Hereditary is beyond awful. Oculus also sucks but could have been good if done better.
Hereditary was a solid horror movie you predictably contrarian homosexual
>A Dark Song (occult/mystic/religious horror)
Forgot about that. I found it good for the most part.
not really horror, but a melancholy contemplation of the things we miss out on after we die. It's a nice film with some beautiful moments. Very slow. Definitely not for everyone. I don't remember it trying to invoke any scary moments.
Hereditary is a good pick. It has some very good scares and the ending is crazy.
Also a very good pick. I loved the period aesthetic.
Comfy.
>Hereditary
good morning sarr
barbie
best horror
it wasnt horror at all. it gave me deep melancholy. I watched years ago and I still think about it sometimes.
Had the exact same experience. Probably the most impactful movie I've ever seen. Thought about it for days and still do. It's about grief.
reddit is back that way
have a nice day
this was an okay movie except for when the stupid aging queer hipster spells out the whole fricking movie to his gaggle of college moron friends.
That was supposed to be satirical. You're just cinematically illiterate.
>satirical
So it really meant it but hid it under the guise of humor so it could feign indifference when called out. Satire is subversion no matter how you word it
the movie directly refutes that hipster nihilist in the end
Talk to me
Heriditary
I can't decide which
this is the mot forced marketing campaign ever
nobody is buying this
Probably not a single great one, certainly not anglo ones, but a few I liked (more in concept than execution) were
>It Follows
>The Invitation
>Autopsy of Jane Doe
The latter especially was almost a good movie. Too bad it went doing formulaic boring shit around the end part.
>Autopsy of Jane Doe
oh yeah, this movie was amazing
>Autopsy of Jane Doe
kino
>The Invitation
i recommend this one as well
especially since ive met fake ass people that act like the people in the movie
the last jedi
oh shit he's looking fresh
The Wailing.
Halloween (2018)
The vvitch.
That one about the cursed mirror with Karen Gillan.
Oculus.
The Conjuring
Only movie itt so far that actually invokes horror.
Three tickets for me, my wife and my wife’s son for the newest A24-produced, genre-redefining, trope-subverting, atmospheric, dark and eerie, emotionally draining, gut wrenching, aesthetically heavy craft by post-horror auteur with an arthouse edge, dread-inducing, suspenseful build up with strong character development and gradual feeling of escalation, bone-chilling slow burn with “say more with less” approach and soul-shaking, blood-curdling, skin-crawling and nerve-wracking exercise in persistently looming dread where tension and anxiety permeates every frame as movie reaches its nail-biting, jaw-clenching and paranoia-inducing final climax, free of any cheap gore, cartoonish CGI or infantile jumpscares horror film, please.
this but unironically and without the cuck fanfic
This but instead of me it's my wife's lover and I pay for it all while I stay home and play Zelda.
The Ritual.
My homie
What do you want out of a horror film? Most morons on this board want a campy trashpile that reminds them of the 80s.
The Witch.
Mandy (2018)
Deadstream. It's a fun horror film that reminded me of Evil Dead and it deserves more love. Also, other Anons already picked the films I otherwise would have chosen.
was surprised how good this film was, had a genuine Evil Dead spirit to it. Sister film Dashcam, as well.
Is the movie still worth watching if I just watched your webm
no it spoils everything
let this be a lesson, anon
is dashcam good
It Follows. Takes the "sex equals death" trope to its logical conclusion.
for me, it's the borderlands with subtitles
>A Ghost Story
Worst movie of the 2010's. Absolute drivel.
The Wailing
You might have brain damage
I was going to say The Descent but that film is going on 20 years old now. Frick I'm decrepit.
It depends on who it is. Most people can't handle actual kino like As Above So Below. Some you just suggest an A24 classic and mov on with your life.
what the frick happened to fun movies about hot young women in tight or no clothes getting murdered violently by an over the top evil?
They still exist. It's just that it's not worth a movie ticket anymore and instead become Direct-To-Tubi/Shudder shlock
any good recent recs?
Probably some Danielle Harris flick like See No Evil 2
One of the best horror movies made in modern cinema. And I do not say that lightly. This truly earns it's title.
This is a meme right? Like that recent hand movie that's also fricking nothing.exe
He’s overhyping it a bit but I thought it was a very good horror flick
Nope. I fricking mean every word. Much much better that hereditary bullshit homosexuals can't seem to suck off enough
>Le false ending
>Le sequelbait that undermines all character development in favor of a cheap "scawy" ending
>sequel bait
Not really. How do you kill it anon? How do you make it stop without killing someone else? I already knew how it was going to end and I wasn't disappointed.
A Haunted House (2013)
I'm also recommending The Witch
uh, anon, it's "The VVitch"
I'll recommend "Unfriended" (2014). Barely within the decade-constraint of OP, but still holds up.
"Happy Death Day" and more-so its sequel are also good within this span. Less scary but more engaging.
Also: "A Quiet Place" and about-as-much its sequel.
The Faith Community, 2017
Charming low budget FF, with a kino centerpiece.
https://tubitv.com/movies/602452/the-faith-community
6.7/10
American Mary is from 2012, but its pretty messed up. More like body horror than actual horror movie...
I couldn't possibly agree more
Aside from the obvious ones in here, I really enjoyed 'Anything for Jackson'.
Is there anything non-slow burn "elevated" horror from A24?
hereditary is faster than most their horror, in that the plot actually has a bunch of points it moves through. its still haughty, and still not 'fast' like, say, an 80s slasher flick though, if that's what you're looking for
it's also awful so i don't recommend it
i've never watched hereditary but i'm probably one of the few people that enjoyed the flow of midsommar
the sound technique is amazing
