What he probably means is that having "a definite favorite" that you can clearly declare on an internet post, in conversation etc, is seen as childish and reductive. Intelligent adults are supposed to have "a variety", or range of films that they enjoy, and are knowledgeable enough about several films that they find it impossible to pick a singular favorite.
The association of (single, simple) "favorites" with childishness is likely bound up with simple school tasks commonly given to young children, as they are told to write down or make a picture depicting "their favorite color", "favorite food", (even favorite movie, possibly), with the expectation that the child would provide a single, simple answer, and not humorously or defiantly subvert the expectation implicit in the task. For me it's definitely Alien
