The ending makes it worthwhile, but the beginning and middle are REALLY forgettable. It was trying to parody cheesy college movies but didn't really do a good job committing to that and played it straight until the end.
Most of the praise this movie gets is from the final 20 minutes.
It suffered from a lot of the things prequels do. The main characters have to go from rivals to teammates, the plot has to wrap up with them in their roles from the first movie, and nothing "new" from the prequel can carry over -- friends, foes, etc. all need to be left behind. Randall gets his little backstory along the way, though his descent to antagonist just ends up mirroring Sully becoming buddies with Mike.
The worst part was how they quickly shuffled Mike and Sully into the MI mail room and basically time-skipped their way onto the Scare Floor after the finale. It's like they wrapped up the script and realized "Oh, shit, they're kicked out of the school. "
