Yeah, instead of not including them they should pursue other plots. I get their reasoning because we've gotten nothing but Jean Grey's phoenix bullshit repeated over and over in the movies. Magneto always been a focus of the movies, and Wolverine sidestepping the rest of the X-Men with his backstory not to mention Fox's weird fixation with making Mystique important in the later movies.
They need to just make them present but don't focus on them for any of the plots or delve to deep in to them. No need for us to focus on Logan and the weapon X program or for us to focus on Jean Grey's Phoenix stuff.

Not having Jean is beyond moronic considering she's one of the original members and a series staple. But not including her continues the Hollywood trend of anti redhead treatment.
Not having Wolverine or Jean is insane, but make your peace with the inevitability of black Jean. Avoiding Magneto makes some sense though, Fox used him in all seven of their X-Men movies, using different villains and different stories is necessary unless they actually want to just keep remaking the same story.

nah the lineup will be Jim Lee-era X-Men because that was the last time the X-Men were insanely popular not to mention the era that everyone has nostalgia for. they'll probably add newer (and older) characters as the sequels move along but the original core will essentially be the cartoon lineup +/- Psylocke.
