I've been watching Season 2 episode by episode. Season 2 definitely knows what characters work with each other.
Cleo and Frida work better as a couple.
The creature Bleachers are surprisingly well.

Abe JFK and Confucius again are just so entertaining to watch.

I have no idea who the new black clone is clone of

Cleo and Frida ended up being my favorite part of the season, once the writers stopped making them be lovey-dovey and let them get toxic for each other.

All parody is endangered when the source material vanishes, and the teen drama of the 90s is completely indistinguishable from the teen drama of the late 10s/early 20s. The show is still funny divorced of that context, but a teen watching it today isn't going to understand that Abe is based on what used to pass for an everyman. They're more used to the male lead being closer to JFK (and the side men also being closer to JFK).

I'd say it aged pretty well, a lot of the humor holds up and it didn't take itself seriously yet it still managed to feel "sincere" by using the same tropes it was parodying to create drama. The few historical jokes were the best part.

No it's almost equally as bad as season 1 of the reboot, if not worse in some ways. It's not a parody, it's not even a teen drama played straight. It really is something akin to a kid show but with swears and gore, having a few jokes land isn't enough to save it.
      >Cleo and Frida work better as a couple
I wish I could feel the same but Cleo is an entirely different character to make her work with Frida and it sucks because Frida is barely a character.

The worst part aren't the characters, it's the scripts
The religion episode is the only episode that felt like a clone high episode, everything else is wearing clone high as a mask

the og series aged incredibly fricking well. It is like a time capsule, just like MTV's downtown.

    It didn't age well.
That's not to say it's bad, don't get me wrong. The jokes still land. But I think it's very telling that when it got that resurgence on TikTok back in 2020, it went over the majority of zoomer's heads that it's supposed to be a parody of 2000's teen dramas. That's why you had so many people genuinely hating Abe or taking the relationship drama seriously.

That's just Tik Tok kids being moronic. It's like saying lotr aged poorly because some poor lonely gays think Frodo and Sam are gay, or cause collage kids miss/dont connect with the themes. Shit maybe lotr did age poorly.

I don't think you can say it aged badly because of that.

The original season easily holds up. It did what all shows should do, it focused on being entertainment and not a message. Season 2 changed that focus clearly.

What message? It was aimless as frick, the writers didn't even know what they wanted it to be other than playing it safe.

Are you trolling? The first episode of season 2 is all about Abe getting cancelled.

It's fricking hilarious still, but I acknowledge it's very dated. I think someone who wasn't around at the time would still like it, though.

It got a reboot last year. The second (reboot) season came out recently.

Original has episodes that are short and sweet. The reboot has way too long runtimes and treats the characters as if they have depth instead of platforms for jokes, so they become really grating. These characters are built to deploy their jokes and gtfo right after

The new series should have parodied current teen slop like Riverdale or thirteen reasons why. That's the whole point of the show that the writers seemingly forgot about.

Yeah, but that would require shitting on the modern aspects of those shows as well, such as the mental illness or gay plots. And that wouldn't be very politically correct

Marathoned it not too long ago. It's still pretty watchable, and a few moments and songs hit surprisingly pretty hard in the feels. Abandoned Pools is a neat little gem.
By contrast, I've watched 3 episodes of the reboot. Season 1. Even with season 2 dropping, I still haven't found the strength to continue.
