an inferior Hollywood remake with a decent soundtrack

What was better about the original? It was worse acting. Penelope Cruz was a cringed mime instead. And the facial prosthetics were laughable

I saw both versions. I prefer the remake, it is superior in everything especially the ending.

I watched it as a teenager and found it unsettling and pretty depressing

Absolute unadulterated kino. One of my favourite movies.

Visual art with not much of sense, it's a pretty the 00s kino as Cell or I, Robot, Eon Flax, etc

God he looks divine. I wish I could look like that.

that's why a Ubik adaptation would never work and feel obsolete, since it has already been adapted 25 times

I watched it for the first time the other week, really good movie. The first chunk goes on for a hair too long, but I do like how much it commits to being what you think is gonna be Tom Cruise in a standard rom-com for the fist chunk.

Convinced it will go down as one of the greats. Came out during peak Tom Cruise hate, and was badly marketed, and even for people who liked Cameron Crowe it was no Jerry Maguire. I watched it multiple times when I first saw it, then started watching all kinds of movies and got to be embarrassed that I once considered it my favorite. Rewatched it again after years, like it even more now. It just throws you off with the first bit because it's so vain and, I dunno, gaudy, but then it really begins and the ending is amazing no matter how many times one sees it.

      Thanks for the spoilers.
