At least with Scott in the original you could kind of get it since he thought Remona was the girl of his dreams
But why did THIS Remona decided to spend so much time looking for him?

Because he "died" because of her ex who did it because of her? And she also gets to play detective

She's attracted to naivete in men. The majority of her exes were reduced to blushing overzealous simps at first sight around her but she moved on once they got too real/routine. She meets Scott and he's taken away from her before Scott can be too 'real' of a boyfriend to her
Julie is kind of the same, she got bored of Gideon (in the anime) when he wasn't wienery and schemey, which is how he came off in high school when he asked out that popular girl, and that was Julie's strongest memory of him

Sparks are canon now. There are literally red strings of fate and Ramona got continuity cucked into being with Scott. Even Older Scott laments the fact he still married her somehow despite fricking up the original story and not wanting to be with her.

To "subvert expectations" which I think was a huge mistake for a lot of people. I think if this was advertised as a sequel AU, a lot of people who now hate it would like it instead. Also things that are just out to "subvert expectations" like the end of Game of Thrones are usually bad.

The sense for the twist of the anime being different than the comic/movie, is that the writer for the comic wanted to write this.

Because believing that it's the movie version of Scott who didn't get as much character development (like dealing with what Nega Scott is or realizing he's kind of a dick in his previous relationships) is much more favorable to believe than seeing it as comic Scott "falling off the wagon" after being "sober" for 13 years.

It's absolutely a continuation to the graphic novel, not the movie. The in universe movie/musical is "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life", the name of the first volume. The robot being the other major tell, since he's sidelined hard in the movie.

You can see it as that, but you can also see future Scott as an alternate version that exists just in this story. It's not really set in stone.

man i miss early 2000's canadian culture. being a
    >fricking leaf
I really miss HMV, Old Navy, goth girls, Super Nintendo, waiting for a long ass time in the winter for city buses, crappy jobs, Friends who'd actually to actually do shit with.

Actually lived in Toronto around the time Scott Pilgrim was out as a young adult. (The comic) and man, I sure fricking miss the scene. The part where scott says "I know someone with a car?!" hugely relatable. Everyone nowadays just wanna stay inside. Fricking society has become at such a standstill, it's like nobody I know even goes outside. Plus everyone is like, hyper political to the point they socially seclude themselves to people only they politically align with.

This stuff still exists, you're just a bit more jaded now. If you follow your local music scene and go to local bands you'll see all of this and more.

The only thing I miss is the downfall of rental stores and the random crap they'd have on hand. But VHS is a lot like records and there are new old stores which fill the gap.

I think you made me realize why I like the comic so much, because it really is just Torontonogatari. Walking downtown going in CD shops and seeing shitty bands because outside is cold as frick is such an canadian thing to do.

It's not an AU though, that would be much better. It's a direct sequel which dictates the reality of all the events in continuity. The original series is canonically a bad end.
Even Old Scott will never be retconned because Ramona just decided 'frick it this is fine' so Scott will ALWAYS waste 10 years of his life with his revenge scheme only to get mogged by atmos. All this is true despite Scott himself witnessing those events. Lmao

it started out pretty good, i liked the first 3 episodes or so even with the change but then it goes downhill and the future scott character is annoying, the writing just suffers from feeling too 2020-ish i guess and the music is generic shit that's in every Hollywood production. if it was going to be ramona centered the soundtrack should've been like, the cure, joy division, and deftones.

i really like how cute the character designs are but after a while it doesn't feel like scott pilgrim anymore, kind of like how i felt about the fiona & cake miniseries not feeling like adventure time. too much like, moral stuff. maybe i am just a nostalgiagay. i wish it was made 10 years ago

well like, this is a nice sentiment but the show only came out a few days ago, so how would someone look so different so quickly?

as someone who saw the movie in middle school and looked like scott, watching the show i look more like julie, my friend even pointed it out. maybe we all wanna be ramona because she's so cool, but i tried the bright blue short hair thing already and prefer keeping my hair a warmer natural color now, and ponytails are easy for lazy girls with messy hair like moi

I liked that they created new relationships between the characters but didn’t like that Scott himself is an afterthought in his own series. He’s just the worst part of the show, they evolved all the characters so much that he’s left as this vermin sticking around.
I know people hated him in the comics and movie too, but because he’s the protagonist he obviously got a lot of stuff to develop, change and grow. In here they left him in the dirt but I’m still supposed to like him.
There had to be a way to make both Scott and everyone else equally well developed rather than picking some over others.

Why didn’t they just adapt the comics and do this as a season 2?

  32. 6 months ago

Really this could have just been a ova type movie rather than a season.

I do feel it's not my vibe of a series, but I know most people seem pissed that they had been waiting for another Scott adaptation for years especially comic accurate. Idk why studios get so dickhard today at tricking or making fun of fans then get surprised when fans get annoyed. Yeah internet/fan spergs will hate if they feel slighted that's just people in general. But especially if you've supported and wanted something for years and then they change everything or tell you they're giving you one thing and then do another. It's like asking for a steak and getting a burger, the burger is good but you had your mind on the higher quality steak now you'd be pissed and want some of your money back.

You weren't getting a comic accurate adaption with only 8 episodes a season. And by translating it to action, some scenes may take infinitely longer like the Shopping battle between Scott and Todd.

        Anonymous

You couldn't fit Scott Pilgrim into 8 episodes, but you very easily could with 12.

        >1 ep. for the beginning
        >7 eps spread across the exes
        >2 eps sprinkled in there used on stuff like Envy and Lisa
        >2 eps for Gideon

A fan dub of the comics was a total of like 7 or 8 hours? You'd get compromises at some point.

        Anonymous

I like to be surprised by the number of eps, so I try not to check on that. But I assumed it'd be a multi season thing like most Netflix's shows.

Really I felt it'd need to at least be 20ish eps, as anon above said you'd have 3 volumes I feel each volume mixed with fights and just scene translations that's about 16-20 eps all together.

    Honestly I really enjoyed this.

I love mysteries, so I found the idea of the Scott Pilgrim supporting cast solving a kidnapping mystery to be really fun. I thought everything to do with the movie set was so fricking funny too. My favorite part of Scott Pilgrim was the secondary cast's interactions and this series is an entire show about that and I love it. I couldn't care less about Scott himself, he already has a story and I read it.

fair. I've only watched through episode 3 so far, but I've read bits from BLOM and Grabinski that basically say they have nothing planned but if it gets picked up they'd come up with something.

Then again, it's possible the second "season" is already done, Netflix is doing that thing where it split an order up into two chunks, and the creators are talking about after THAT, or perhaps they're just trying to bait more people into watching it?

          Anonymous

I'm sure it's one of those cases where they put it in just in case with no actual expectations for more. Netflix right now is killing all animation that isn't outsourced, even Big Mouth, so I wouldn't count on them doing more unless it's a gigantic hit.
