I'm back from the Phantom Menace and it was even more kino than I remember. The only fair criticism of this movie is the one JarJar scene at the battle of Naboo and the Starfighters not realizing how to destroy the warship until Anakin blows it up. Everything else about it was pure kino, specially the scene where Anakin and his mother part ways, knowing that the next time Anakin sees her she's dying from being plowed by the tusken raiders for a week. The midichlorians are not fair criticism, they move the force from being literal magic to a real physical phenomenon, it makes it less bullshit and honestly if you think well about it, makes every life form feel even more connected. You guys don't sperg when they tell you you are not a soul, but a collective of neurons collaborating, why would you here?
Does it retain the 20th Century Fox intro?
Yes it does. I will miss the THX though.
Does that mean Fox got royalties from Disney showing it?
Disney owns Fox now. It's more like Disney got royalties. Disney used to own Miramax and Dimension back in the day.
IMAGINE being such a fricking golem that you give DISNEY your money to watch a rerelease of a good film they didn't make, after what they did to this franchise's corpse.
I rewatched Phantom Menace yesterday. On my GEORGE LUCAS PRODUCED Blu-ray box set.
Well Lucas shouldnt have sold that shit if he didn't want the money going to Disney. With this I'm telling I want more political intrigue Star Wars, more movie starwars, more renaissance sets, more lavish costumes instead of a bunch of Black folk dressed like junkyard scavengers.
>I'm telling them I'm a braindead goy that will eat anything they shit out if it's nostalgic
No matter what they do it will never be good. Voting with le wallet is a stupid idiom that companies don't care about. Giving them money at all is the reward. The only way to teach them is to pull the plug.
>pothead redditgay thinks Disney isn't making money off of video sales
No (you) for you roodypoo
>he doesn’t have the 4k HDR versions
This. I'd like love to see it them all on the big screen again but I pretty much stopped going to the cinema after tfa and refuse to ever give disney another cent.
imagine still giving a shit about starwars after mark hamil gave a presidential speech at the white house stating how much he hates you and then logging into an offical Democrat meeting to call Republicans the Empire, LOL. Imagine giving money to people who quite literally OPENLY hate you.
Femme just means woman in french, that's stupid
Calm down
Mouse Black person homosexuals deserve to hang
>On my GEORGE LUCAS PRODUCED Blu-ray box set.
these are like $15 on ebay. if you dont buy you are a homosexual.
I watch TPM from a original 35mm scan..the blu ray is utter ass.
I want to watch TPM on the big screen again. Me and my parents have (gladly) given Lucas thousands of pounds already.
How was the visual quality? Was it just a blu-ray blown up on the screen (like fathom does) or the real deal?
Honestly it was shit. Everything was blurry, it wasn't grainy either so I'm sure it's no remaster. I didn't notice any additional scenes either. It really is a rerun. I didn't get the optimal seat either and the sound was shit, except for the podrace, but I guess that's on my cinema.
These cheap homosexuals couldn't even release the 3D versions so it's something different?
You are not gay OP. I just got back, it was ultrakino. I already had problems with Dune 2 but after watching this it was like night and day between a modern wannabe cool bullshit thing starring a bunch of models and a real film by an artist who has something to share with the world. George is actually a great director. The classical composition makes it timeless. Great editing. The sound was amazing in the theater. The politics especially stood out as being insightful and more relevant to current events. Jar Jar was not that bad. My wife who had never seen a Star Wars movie thought he was funny. These films will last another hundred years. Villanueves Dune is a flashy mordern take that will look dated in 5 years. (Sorry if you liked Dune).
It's evident Lucas took risks with this film, it ends up sitting right halfway from the adventure movie feeling of the original trilogy and the tragedy he tries to write for Vader's background. I think trying to fit both of those niches is one of the reasons this wasn't well received. My only gripes with it is that from the battle of naboo onwards it starts shitting the bed. The infiltration in the palace needed more thought. They only succeed because the moronic viceroy calls off the guards on the "decoy" queen team who are next to him and take him hostage.
Lucas set up the jedi to be this morally gray arm of the government, a far cry from the monastic idealism they had presented in the OT, and Qui Gon is a reflection of this, a rebel without care of the code, preaching "Balance" instead of peace. Shame this wasn't well received so he dropped that plotline.
>this smol boy?
>NOW THAT'S POD RACING!
>check out his midichlorians tho!
>who bro! there's a sith apprentice! might be a conspiracy!
>let's give dictarorial powers to this guy we're suspicious of! Great idea!
>good thing this giant army showed up at the same time there's a conspiracy promoting a galatic war!
>THE JEDI DON'T RESPECT MY POWER LEVEL!
>I LOVE PADME SO FRICKING MUCH...AS MUCH AS I HATE FRICKING SAND!
>let's send Anakin to tail the guy we're suspicious of and gave all that power to, even though we sense something off about Anakin and won't let him on the council
>HE A SITH LORD!
>padme...will die
>I BETTER TRUST YOU EVEN THOUGH YOU STARTED THE GALACTIC WAR TO GAIN POWER! BYE BYE "1000 GENERATIONS" OF GOVERNMENT!
>[murders children]
>Anakin, I'm your FREN!
>sperg sperg MUH POWA LEVEL! sperg sperg
>Anakin...you're breaking my heart!
>zeeeer ZERRRRRRR zeeeeer [twirling lightsabers]
>AHHHH! MY ARM! MY LEGS! HATE! HAAAAAAAATEEEEEEE!
>we can't find anything wrong with her...it appears she died of a...broken heart
>AND PADME?
>she told you that you were breaking her heart, bro
>NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The movies are moronic. More examples:
>the clone army was uncovered while investigating a conspiracy related to the sith/war
>they literally just go along with this amazing coincidence because they're moronic
>they all get murdered because the plot needs it to happen
...
>massive conflict spanning thousands of planets all across the galaxy
>literally going on for decades at this point with millions upon millions of people involved
>it ends because the plot needs it to (i.e. 3 mins of screentime in which Anakin kills 5 or 6 people)
...
>Anakin trusts Palpatine, a Sith who started a massive war killing millions for the sake of his own power, and betrays the Jedi
>the excuse is "PADME THO! JEDI DON'T RESPECT MUH POWER LEVEL!"
>the relationship between Anakin/Padme generates no actual conflict within the plot (the audience is just told "FORBIDDEN ROMANCE!" even though nothing actually inhibits them)
>the plot is literally just "EMOTIONS ARE CONFUSING AND RELATIONSHIPS CAUSE EMOTIONS!"
Basically, shit needs to happen in order for the plot to move forward so it does. Sure, there are lots of nonsensical plot holes but this is low-hanging fruit that has been done to death (basically cheap YouTube style criticism). The deeper problem is that the plot isn't being driven by characters in something that has the pretense of being a tragedy; tragedy is specifically character driven as far as that genre goes. You end up with simplistic moron takes from the characters while the plot happens to them and them making decisions that are kind of stupid because the plot simply needs to happen.
>EMOTIONS ARE CONFUSING!
Maybe this is why you don't get it, autistic frick.
>literally going on for decades at this point with millions upon millions of people involved
The Clone Wars actually lasted about 3 years.
Anakin refused to trust the council because they refused to trust him. Palpatine literally groomed him since he was 10 and Anakin (Who was someone who made strong attatchments to others) chose the guy who's been friends with him for years over the guy who criticizes and ridicules him every step of the way. Makes sense for an emotionally vunerable person. Not to mention that the love of his life is literally dying and the person who he has trusted for years and has had no reason until now not to trust is literally offering him the solution in exchange for killing someone they mutually do not like. WHY THE FRICK WOULDN'T ANAKIN TAKE UP PALPATINE'S OFFER!? I feel bad for anyone who hasn't loved so hard that they would do literally anything for the person they loved even if it hurt the world around them. That's a different kind of feeling.
Yeah man I love my wife so hard id do literally anything for her, like killing her the first time I see her after doing literally anything for her
>At the most emotionally vunerable state in his life
>Thinks that after making the biggest and brashest choice for his wife by betraying most of what he knows, his wife has thrown his love back in his face and betrayed him
>Emotions get the best of him and he chokes his wife fore like five seconds before coming to
>Wife dies in childbirth (Something that actually happens in real life)
>NOOOOOO HE KILLED HIS HECKIN WIFE!!!1111!!!!!
People also tend to hurt the people they love when they're at their lowest. It's why junkies steal from family members at the peak of their addiction and why emotionally vunerable and confused people sometimes strike their loved ones out of confused rage. It's really not that hard to understand. It also makes sense for a stressful situation like all of the shit going on at the end of the movie to cause complications during child birth which is also very stressful. In the end Padme's heart (Both her emotional heart and her literal blood pumping organ) couldn't take it and she died.
Same here, shit was comfy asf. The film looked good at my theatre, maybe just a bit blurry but good. Was surprised it wasn't the original theatre release with the puppet Yoda but the dvd release. The colors looked great and the sound was so good I actually noticed some effects and music I hadn't on previous watches. I will watch the next ones when they release all the way up to 6, but I refuse to watch the sequels. I actually genuinely wonder how well those are going to do in theatres considering that their reception is still poor all these years later. This was a good move by the mouse to spark zoomer's and gen alpha's interest in Star-Wars again.
There was never anything wrong about midichlorians.
Darth Maul still has one of the coolest designs and fighting style untill this day. Jake Lloyd is worse than I remember.
Darth Maul is cool but it's strange how the emperor says "I'm sending this ambassador who looks like a serial killer to fix your problem" and the tradies shrug it off.
Now that I notice Palpatine telling Anakin he'd follow his career closely makes me think if the guy was so powerful he could feel the kid had immense potential from just a quick look.
Exactly, Palpatine knew that Anakin was the chosen one because he could feel the force surrounding him. If Qui-Gon can sense it then why wouldn't one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy be able to? Also I hate the rewrite (In the Disney comics) that Palpatine is in a way Anakin's father because he used the force manipulated the midichlorians in Shmi's womb to impregnate her.
>reading disney comics
>not dropping nu wars after tfa
Frick yourself
I'M SORRY GEORGE I THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE GOOD
>Palpatine force manipulated midichlorians to impregnate her
What the frick. What would a senator be doing fricking around in a backwater shithole that can't even enforce the Republic's rule of law?
>Messianic jedi lore thrown out the window
>Balance route thrown out the window
The prequels sucked dick
Your family name is Prequel? How strange.
>People were cheering in the theatres
I WANTED TO BE WITH THEM BUT I COULDN'T GO.
https://youtube.com/shorts/xeQwQcbxCSo?si=5nk1D30SLNkyz_TS
It's still out for a few more days anon. Go to an evening show where the crowds are more lively
That's pretty forced cheering.
it's literally one moron screaming and his pal trying to not be too embarrassed clapping along
It's a great movie, soulful.
Nice wallpaper.
Remember Matrix mania? It was supposedly the new Star Wars for the modern generation? It didn't even get an anniversary rerelease for its 25th, the sequels and The Matrix Reconstructions destroyed the franchise while the prequels age like wine
>Remember Matrix mania? It was supposedly the new Star Wars for the modern generation?
Yeah. I was 14 in 1999. I always enjoyed the prequels and the matrix movies
The first Matrix alone is better than the entirety of Star War.
Can Cinemaphile just rangeban India please?
Guess what would have never existed if there was no Star Wars
it literally did get an anniversary release though, only for a couple of days however.
watch the RLM reviews
Still a shit movie
>still a shit movie
made 15 million over the weekend, seethe
The prequels are shit and always will be. Redlettermedia was right about everything.
> she's dying from being plowed by the tusken raiders for a week.
What is it with Lucas putting implied rape in his movies
First you had Leia being held as a sex slave by Jabba for at least a couple days
Then you had Anakin’s mother being a slave, and since we see her do nothing of benefit for Watto we kinda have to assume she either is or was a sex
Then Vader’s mom get kidnapped by Tusken Raiders, since they probably don’t ransom the only reason to keep her would be rape and she’s dying of some kind of injury when he finds her
Like I’m not trying to harp on this but these movies are for kids and yet for three movies in a row we get weird implied alien rape
I just can’t do it with the weird plot issues
>Trade Federation, evidently some kind of business alliance or mega-corp, has a massive army while the republic has no military
>Trade Federation want to bully a small planet for..reasons? What are they hoping to get? What does Naboo produce that they want?
>Sidious plans to use Naboo crisis to undermine Valorum and take power himself…but then wants the treaty legitimizing the occupation and the Queen to stay a prisoner? That stops any kind of crisis. Had the the Jedi been killed like he wanted, Naboo just becomes a Trade Federation world and nobody back on Coruscant cares. His whole plan hinges on Palme getting to Coruscant to report the invasion but then he does everything he can to make that not happen
>Qui Gon is in a spaceport full of criminals and puts together this crazy risky gambling plan instead of just stealing a new ship for them to use which should have been way easier for two Jedi, an astromech droid and a security officer
>Qui Gon brings the boy he’s protecting he assault on the palace instead of leaving him safely behind
I could go on but you get my point
It’s all really cool tho
I wouldn't really call any of these catastrophic plot holes, for example the Trade Federation can easily be assumed to be a powerful corporation (maybe something akin to the East India Company), powerful in localised areas but nothing compared to the entire republic
Qui Gon also isn't finding Anakin part of the whole deal there on Tattooine? been so long since I watched it, it would explain all the convolution there
The rest are probably fair criticisms but not huge deals, I'm sure that with someone with high enough autistichlorian levels could pick at similar plot issues in the original 3 movies
The actual focus and strengths of the movie are more like what
said. It isn't a masterpiece but it does try something, and it is undeniably quite a fun watch
All the people pretending the prequels are good are definitely coordinated shills.
Meesa thinkin' yousa in BOMBAD state a mind massa anon! Yousa needin' a footjob now?
Goddamn I hate apologists. Phantom Menace is an okay movie at best with a nice final battle. It's not "ultrasuperkino", it's actually pretty forgettable and AotC is even more forgettable. But the lore the prequels provide is pretty nice though which is why seeing Hayden Christensen as Vader again is cool.
>the Starfighters not realizing how to destroy the warship until Anakin blows it up
This was kino because nobody had ever done it before in the SW universe. He inadvertently invented the very strategy which would ultimately destroy both Death Stars.
Whats with all the assmad redditlettermedia prequel haters?
Old farts sticking to their initial pleb reactions and becoming further incenced as the world finally realises that the prequels were actually great all along.
I was surprised at how many kids showed up with light sabers and costumes (in Norway).
I thought ut would only be old farts like me.
Was fun to see
These movies were way ahead of their time
>it was even more kino than I remember
motherfricker you wouldn't know kino if it bought an 18 wheeler and mowed you down
Yes, this this this.
Kino. More like the KINO Menace, because George is such a menace for making such KINO bro
