I'm being forced to watch this, but I'm struggling to get into it. I've heard good things about it but I'm not quite feeling it. How long does it take to really get going?
I know this is a me issue, so feel free to call me moronic

The first couple episodes aren’t that good tbh but it picks up there
the first couple seasons are great
Same here, maybe it got good later but I noped out after the first season. The main character was grating af with his subpar Whedon-esque snark. Shame really since both actors were good in SG1
>muh Josh Wheaton
>OMG is that a joke or pop culture reference I'M GOING INSAAAANE
>3 eps in
the rest of the season is awesome, by the halfway mark you'll be hooked but the good episodes are right around the corner so its worth sticking with it a bit longer
>noped out after the first season
all scifi shows are shaky in season 1, its damn near universal
>It's more a like a children's Saturday morning TV show than an adults space fantasy/sci-fi show.
imagine being filtered by a roadrunner spoof
It's literally total shite.
All the worst aspects of star trek and star gate... Only with BDSM leather clad homosexuals chasing the protagonist and his band of weirdos all over the universe.
I hated it. It's more a like a children's Saturday morning TV show than an adults space fantasy/sci-fi show.
You must be high IQ.
Farscape? More like gayscape, am I right?
Watch yourself, bawd
Its debated WHEN it happens but it will definitely pick up further in, definitely in the first half of the first season. Stick with it anon
Unless you just have shit taste obviously
I think its great. It is a product of its time to some extent, very influenced by new-age shit. Can be awful at times but its a very charming show with some great characters.
I would understand if someone dips after the I, ET episode. but it gets a lot better.
For me its when Scorpius enters the show
Does this show have good waifus?
yeah
for me it's the spooder
The bone eater for me
Scorpius got the best girls
PK Techfu
easily the best sci fi show of all time
I'm trying to figure out why I'm having trouble getting hooked, I wonder if maybe I'm just in a bit of a mood. Nothing strikes me as outright offensive to my enjoyment, so it's strange that I'm so unenthused
Because the real draw of the show is on one side the characters and the surreal otherworldly shit that happen to them. You must really appreciate the later in order to like the show.
I can't think of a good example, but I've had a show that I just disliked and dropped early similarly, and a couple years later started again and absolutely loved it.
Farscape is a white guy cowboying on aliens, occasionally threatening to nuke everyone including himself if they don't calm down. It's a goofy blast. But the things you're reacting negatively to are likely just going to continue to grate.
My wife loves the Pretender, and I had vague positive memories of it. I got maybe 4 eps in and was just real sick of it being the exact same story each ep, no surprises. A corrupt boss has a secret, is confronted, died or arrested, tiny flashback for portag of no import. I suspect I just wasn't in the right mood and with that mindset it would tank further viewing
the first episodes are pretty weak, especially the 2nd one where they're on that low tech planet and cricthon is the "alien"
Fully agree.
I, ET was a VERY weak episode to follow up a great first episode of the first season.
I usually skip it on rewatch.
The show becomes VERY different after the first 14 episodes, they were trying a family friendly star trek kinda show and it didn't work so they said frick it and did their own thing. That's the show that people are fond of, not the first few episdoes.
To me, this show always looked like the joke genre non-fans think scifi is.
no that's Andromeda
For me, it's all worth it to see the Jim Henson company make alien muppets.
Rygel was the best character
I enjoy the tiny little character arc of him being a greedy and selfish bastard until the one time he's going to actually flee the ship and someone offhandedly mentions that Pilot said he likes Rygel, who then does a 180 and saves the day solely because he realized he made a friend.
thank god for leather pants
Nice, I will give it a watch.
>be 16 year old me
>want to get in those leather pants
>have to settle for my own imagination
>be me last year
>“hey hubby, we should watch farscape. you’d like it.”
>watching farscape with my husband
>Crichton comes on screen
>“wait a second”
>look at husband
>look at Crichton
>look at husband
>I married the latinx version of John Crichton
Feels good xirs. We’re all gonna make it. 16 year old me would be proud.
>Be ten year old me.
>In the hospital with double pneumonia.
>Watch 1984 Nightmare on Elm Street.
>FF fifteen years, married with two kids.
>Watch New Nightmare during Halloween with my wife.
>Wife squeals when Freddy jumpscares Nancy.
>Chuckle, and look at her.
>Realize I married a near twin of Heather Langenkamp.
As soon as they ditch trying to be Star Trek. So around the season finale
One of the major reasons that people love Farscape is that it has the absolute best villain character of any SF show ever. He won't be introduced until the end of the first season though.
Basically the first few episodes are worldbuilding, then the show figures out what it is, then the overarching storyline starts.
Farscape is the greatest Sci-fi show of all time and it's not even close.
This. anyone who disagrees is simply wrong and I hope they get HIV.
I’m in early S2 and loving it. It’s by no means the best show I’ve ever seen but something about how the characters interact is great. They have a lot of problems with each other but also have gone through a lot together.
Blue b***h.
The character development and the fact that at times they're antagonist to eachother is peak writing.
HUMANS ARE SUPERIOR
I stopped when the blue lady said meditation is selfish that is the worst take sure it looks like sitting down and doing nothing but how do you know sitting down and doing nothing is not accomplishing the most out of anything you see it is the striving for doing something that leads to conflict, struggle, and suffering but you have to follow a plot involving drama and conflict that's how these things work that is why all drama is against the ways of the Buddha all drama would imply you can't sit around and do nothing and here we are in an endless cycle of suffering because someone thinks they have to do something I blame the israelites.
The bot broke again.
Bros should I get into Farscape or Red Dwarf? I feel like I'd like Red Dwarf more but Farscape has cute girls.
both
red dwarf is more comedy
farscape is a bit more action/adventure with comedy
The first few episodes, perhaps most of the first season, are kind of weak. It gets a lot in the second season when Scorpius gets in the picture and Crichton slowly goes insane
Farscape hits its stride when picrel shows up. Probably my favorite TV sci-fi villain after Dukat.
The best stretch of the show I think when there's like this mid monster of the week episode where Crichton gets cloned by some guy, but instead of just having that situation resolve itself by the end of the episode they go for like an entire season where the crew gets split up and each group gets a Crichton.
Love me some scorpi, can’t even consider him a villain tbh
well he becomes an antihero in the fourth season
He really adds a lot to the show.
>Probably my favorite TV sci-fi villain after Dukat.
Ah, anon is surely a man who knows quality scifi villains, I salute your patrician tastes.
well "durka returns" is how long it took for the show to finally click for me. not sure i can recommend you to watch ~14 episodes of something you don't like but there you go
No one should watch Jeremiah Crichton. The only good thing about it is the DVD commentary where they talk shit about it the whole time.
Okay, I'm going to try to watch.
If I had to skip some of S1, how far would you guys be comfortable of me skipping forward?
The second episode is really weak.
It's basically Crichton realizing that HE is now the alien.
These two are about the same thing. Chiana, and middle of the season.
Truthfully, by the time the show hits it's stride well, you won't really care that you watched some slightly slower episodes at the beginning.
no bro u gotta watch it all, at your first time... u just gotta
Just stop watching it and check something out like Picard or that gay show with all the black women in space. You don't deserve Farscape.
>i'm moronic
thank you for your input
Suck a dick. There's your input homosexual.
Not really helping dispel you being a homosexual there champ
Watch Ep 1, Ep 7, Ep 9, Ep 10, and then Ep 12. Then skip to 15 and watch the whole way through. You get most of the big plot points and then go right to the good stuff.
Thank you for actually answering, appreciate this
It doesn't find it's groove until midway through the first season, by then the characters will grow on you.
many will say when Scorpy shows up but it's actually when Chiana shows up
I stopped watching somewhere after Moya catching on fire and the stupid space bank, what did I miss?
it's just Space Op' Pulp.. you get it or you get out..
It gets better as it goes on when the story develops and when the crew starts to work together more and argue less.
Few characters do still look out for themselves and betray the crew over the next few seasons but they always work things out in the end, one of my pet peeves for the show.
Also Chaani is the worse crew member by far.
Stark and Jool were both worse than Chiana
I loved Stark on first viewing and then hated him for a while afterwards. He grew on me again as I watched it more. Jool remains a tough sell, and I've lost count how many times I've gone through it now.
Nash Stark sucked. He was supposed to be a sane man pretending to be crazy and then the writers just forgot about that and completely lost the plot with him.
They decided to make him have a break down after Zhaan and had him that way too long. Not a bad idea and I liked it st first but it drug on too long for the character.
Does anyone have a good viewing guide? I want to start rewatching Farscape but some of the season 1 eps are actually kinda important for characher development so I don't want to skip the wrong ones, otherwise I'd just watch the pilot, PK Tech Girl, and then start watching onwards from Durka Returns.
It starts ramping up when Chiana is introduced.
great premise mid execution.
Series is pretty episodic; if I were you id jump to a high rated episode to see if you like it or not.
Best episodes are:
>Family Ties
>Crackers Don't Matter
>Look at the Princess
>Won't Get Fooled Again
>Eat Me
>Scratch 'n Sniff
>Infinite Possibilities
>Revenging Angel
>Dog With Two Bones
>John Quixote
Ben's wife is cute.
