The movie was just a caricature of today, with the future as the setting to exaggerate the stupidity of modern life at an extreme level. When people say "wow idiocracy is coming true!" they're stupid, because it has been true since the film came out, because that was the intention. Its a satire on modern society, not a legitimate "prediction" of the future.
