I'm curious, what do people that have never came in contact with the manga or the anime think of the live action? from what've seen on tw*tter, they seem to like it, but they eat everything up, so what about the people from here? Did it get you interested into reading the manga?

I never consumed any one piece media and couldn't watch more than 2 minutes of the first ep. Seriously disgusting, no idea how anyone not mentally moronic can like it. Quite convinced anons shilling it here are doing it ironically trying to cause pain to innocent viewers
Sounds like a you problem
Does it? To me it sounds like a netflix problem and a monkey shill problem. Not that I'd pay for anything anyway so doesn't really matter
Fpbp, I've been following the series for 20 years and I agree with you.
Low IQ
Hoards of brown ESL zoomers are raiding this board shilling for this show because the main guys a brown Mexican.
In truth the show is a poorly acted, poorly written, cringey shitfest with horrible cgi and fight choreography that truncates the story and removes all the heart and soul out of it.
It will not make it to the current arc of the manga without culling massive swathes of arcs out of the story because the SH actors are almost all 30 and they can’t spend time on any of the arcs lest the b***h playing Nami turns 40 by season 3.
>BUT THE REVIEWS
It’s so unironically over when the shills need to look to critics (who they normally say don’t count when it suits them) and a massive hoard of biased homosexuals giving the show five stars to say that a show is justified in “being good”.
Take Oda and give us back Miura unironically
>Hoards of brown ESL zoomers are raiding this board shilling for this show because the main guys a brown Mexican.
Hispanic and spans don't care about representation, anime is infinitely more valuable to them
>shilling
This is a board about television and movies every single thread is shilling. It's impossible to talk about television and film and not talk about television shows and movies.
I read the first few chapters and watched the first few anime episodes and couldn't really get into it. Just finished episode 4 of the live action and I'm really enjoying it. It's not some sort of masterpiece, but it's enjoyable.
>was a casual fan of One Piece, like 20 years ago.
>hear of the live action
>I should catch up on it to see how it ended
>it's still going
>there's like, a thousand chapters
The live action only covers the East Blue and it mashes a lot of it together and skips Loguetown w/ Smoker entirely
It doesn’t skip Loguetown. It ends before Loguetown. That’s like saying the Live action skipped Skypeia.
but the live action skipped skypeia? it was only east blue skipping loguetown
Smoker and loguetown is season 2 bait
So I guess season 2 will start with Loguetown and stop somewhere in Alabasta.
I am on episode 5 and liking it so far
really liked buggy, zoro is absolute cringe but I let it slide
too many nigs however
like any other adaption of anything, they dont realize how shit it is in comparison to the source material
my gf likes how it’s a silly wacky pirate show
My gf too. She even watched the next episode without me. I had to tell her to wait for me
It's legit awful
t. Been reading one piece every week for over 20years
no one who’s read one piece for 20 years is of any worth to society and has no valuable opinions
You summergays get more insufferable every decade
you’ve read a children’s comic for 20 years
Correct. Since I was child
and you’re over 30?
Yea. What's confusing you?
do you have gainful employment?
NTA but I have been reading One Piece for 22 years now and I do have a stable job
Of course.
But I think I see what is tripping you up. You're either under the illusion people are only able to enjoy things directly targeted at them. Can't fathom someone having a diverse set of interests. Or care too much what other people think of you. Whether all, or a combination, you'll prolly grow out of it.
Kids who were abused as children have that attitude usually.
ah I struck a nerve
I don't think you are the target audience of this show.
They probably liked it. People act like the one piece anime is some insane piece of art when there are episodes that are just people talking and announcing their moves while fighting in the same place for 20 minutes. The anime is pure brain rot content. Even though I liked the east blue story in the anime, it’s such a bloated piece of shit I don’t even remember half the story beats with filler. I stopped after the alabasta desert shit because it was boring.
>just people talking and announcing their moves while fighting in the same place for 20 minutes
Provide a single example of this
Nta, but so many boring episodes of thriller bark were like this
Anime is crap. Almost all long shonen anime are trash.
That tranime is tranime and making some F-tier actors act out this horrible shit material serves to highlight exactly how horrible it is.
We will only know once we see actual numbers for it and either cancellation or renewal. There's a lot of legit shilling, right now we only know there's a lot of buzz, but you don't need that much to create buzz. On the other hand, animegays are not enough to make a show of this budget viable, so if it lives on, it means it won the hearts of normalgays, if it dies, then it failed.
This is going to get 5 seasons minimum.
>5 seasons minimum
With the ongoing strikes, S2 probably won't enter production until next year at the earliest and probably won't see screens until 2025.
People will probably lose interest and I doubt the show lasts beyond a 3rd season at most.
Aren't they already issuing waivers because even the actors know this writer shit is a load of bullshit that will never win? They could probably just use Jap scriptwriters and hire professional translation teams at this point.
They should just hire non union writers but Netflix won't do it
They have the manga author with them, the source material. why would they need writers?
Primarily because you can't just copy a million manga panels over to live action word for word and scene for scene. The show has to cut out a ton of filler, unfilmable scenes, inconsequential characters, etc. to make the pacing work for the format the show is in. This takes writers. Oda is a mangaka whose strength is his illustration. He has no experience making 60-70 minute long TV episodes.
Also, because the guild mandates that they have x amount of writers on each show.
context.
of course it would be. One piece is massive. and people have to watch it to actually see if its good or not.
I watched like 10 minutes of it and thought it was cringe made for little kids.
Twitter is weeb central. Of course they're going to claim it's good
It's a pale imitation of the manga & anime, normies, newbies and easily impressed diehard fans are eating it up but don't expect any objectivity from their opinions
Normies and newbies are the ones who have objective opinions since they didn't go in with expectations of what the show should be.
They're also the intended audience. This entire show is an advertisement for the manga.
>This entire show is an advertisement for the manga.
They're not spending $140M to advertise the manga.
The manga author is allowing Netflix to make it because he wants One Piece to have a global audience and he's said as much, apparently retaining creative control over the project.
Netflix sees it as an opportunity, obviously.
I don't think I'll be buying the manga or watching the anime despite somewhat enjoying the live action
Oda only agreed to do it as he saw it as a good way to advertise his manga in the west and gain an audience of new readers. Naruto is a bigger franchise in America than one piece, oda wants to change that.
He personally chose the cast for the important characters
As a long time fan I just KNOW normalgays won't like it. Because let's be honest while it tries to be true to the source material (which is enough for most weebs) it's not a very good show. Adults can like cartoons, Roger Rabbit and The Mask were succesful. It's just that OP LA looks dumb
I liked it. the choreography of the fight scenes is very well done or at least they are shot in a way to emphasize the action without ruining it with shaky cam and a thousand cuts.
Only ever watched one or two episodes.
Watching is kind of a stretch, it was running in the background while i made dinner. didn't pay much attention.
>since I was 13
My point exactly. It's shonnen shit for little kids. You just didn't grow out of being a dweeb and that's okay.
My friend, then why are you posting in the thread?
Maybe because OP asked for opinions from non anime fans. Just a guess.
OP asked what do people who never watched the anime or read the manga thoughts on the netflix live action series.
I gave my opinion. You realise that we're on Cinemaphile and not Cinemaphile right? This weeb shit is being spammed all over this board so I gave it a try and didn't like it.
what would happen if japan tried to make a one piece live action? would it be better or worse?
Worse unironically.
I've watched preview and little snippets and the acting is genuine lol tier. Luffy feels like hes in a play of one piece instead of a show and Zoro's actor is trying way too hard to be edgelord McGee. You can not tell me you could keep a straight face with him talking to Dracule at the bar.
>Luffy feels like hes in a play of one piece instead of a show
That’s actually a pretty good way to put it.
My mom and sister wanted to watch it because they saw the high ratings. Told them they shouldn't because One Piece is one of the cringiest things ever made, especially Luffy who is unbearable but they didn't listen to me and told me it seemed fun baded on the trailers. After 2 episodes they told me I was right and they dropped it. My sister liked Zoro at least.
