That's because America was practically built upon parody and satire. Most countries only have one or two significant ironic works.
Spaniards have Don Quijote, Irishmen have A Modest Proposal, Russians have Bulgakov, Anglos have a smattering of authors up to Monty Python & Chris Morris... But Americans have leagues upon leagues of satirists for every conceivable medium. Asians have none, it's only recently that they've dabbled in parody with videogames like Stranger of Paradise and the 'meta' isekai novels which are still usually told in earnest.
My point is the late 2000s disillusionment with American parody flicks made people forget how much the country is known for detaching from tropes and deconstructing conventions in a funny way.
