The human elements were handled well, but still gimped by the studio. The action/spider-man elements were mid.
I still maintain Andrew was a good Spider-Man though.

The first one is alright. The main problem is that there's basically nothing about it that really stands out, and the direction is really bland. I'm half convinced that Sony only hired Webb because of his name. Why would you think the guy who did 500 Days of Summer would be a good choice for a Spider-Man film? The best part is Andrew, and Emma is alright too, but again they're both short-changed by just how unremarkable the film as a whole is.
The second one isn't really worth talking about except to make fun of it.

Second one is way better because it's not a lackluster remake of a superior film

It’s a remake of the worst Raimi film.

Emma Stone was a vast improvement on Kirsten Dunst. And she's not a total dumbass like Mary Jane was. The only thing was the second movie made her seem like an butthole the
      >i break up with YOU
      line was cringe.
The first movie also had moments that rivaled the Raimi trilogy. I liked the scene where Connors looks at his crippled arm after getting the new formula.

ASM1 = lackluster remake of SM1 with less gravitas and style.
ASM2 = chaotic remake of SM2 with even more bloat and studio interference.

…but, like said: Emma Stone is vastly superior to Kirsten Dunst. They lose on all other cast members, Garfield sucks, the munchkin playing Harry Osborne sucks, etc.

          Shit… meant to say ASM2 = SM3, not SM2.

          Anonymous

TASM1 was more of a combination of SM1 and SM2. The dinner scene in TASM 1 had a similar tone to SM2 sitting down with Otto and his wife.
The scene where Peter suspects Curt is the Lizard is similar to the dinner scene with Dafoe and Peter after they fought.

I still maintain Andrew was a good Spider-Man though.

I have no idea how you could say the action was mid. Compared to Raimi the action in Webb's movies allowed for more parkour and more spider-like movements on the walls and ceilings. Even when Spider-Man fought Venom in SM3 they didn't do much wall fighting. TASM utilized angles well. And I haven't watched the MCU movies but I know the Spiderverse ones take a page from the TASM movies and improve on it

the movie is good, even more compared to the MshitU, but the whole Peter parents sub-plot was moronic and it was released to close to Raimi's. to avoid comparisons they should've skipped his origin, with just some uncle Ben flashbacks and Peter in College or even graduated already

The first movie was ok. It's not very exciting but it's decent. The 2nd movie is a mess with terrible villains but it made me finally like Andrew as Peter and I love that they had the balls to kill Gwen and her death scene was kinda brutal which again I appreciate them taking the chance on that.

Wtf was up with the villain, he didn't even have a jekyll and hyde thing going on, he just took a serum whose side effects appearantly include wanting reptiles to rule the world. Green Goblin in the Raimi ones wasn't a perfect villain eithehethe Green Goblin had a similar personality and goals to pre-formula Norman Osborn.

Not even the Green Goblin. Dr. Octopus. At first he wanted to improve the world and combine animal healing traits with Human DNA. Then he course corrected and decided to just perfect the lizard serum because it made him faster stronger etc. This plot was semi followed up on in TASM 2 when Osborn got desperate enough to fight his own disease that he contacted Spider-Man for help. But after the lizard incident Peter decided against it.

        >At first he wanted to improve the world and combine animal healing traits with Human DNA. Then he course corrected and decided to just perfect the lizard serum because it made him faster stronger etc
No, he wanted to cure his arm and help people but didn't want to test it on humans because he's so noble, then he was forced to test it on himself, the serum turned him evil so he wanted to take over the world with lizards.
Also terrible because it tried to have a more realistic feel, but ended up being goofier than the raimi movies with the villains plan.

That's something that pissed me off. You could see he was getting pissed off with humanity because of that Indian beorocrat who seemed to know about Peter's parents. I mean the guy threatened Connors family. But they didn't focus enough on it. And all the stuff with Connor's family was cut.

But it's also very hard to measure up to that classic Elfman
at least we're not bringing Michael Giacchino's MCU Spidey theme into the discussion, it'd get BTFO by both
