People who are rich and have nothing but time and money (or teenagers) can afford be as progressive as they like. The rest of us, where our time/energy/money goes and who and what we choose to affiliate with actually matters. While I agree with this sentiment entirely the truth is this social libertarianism (of which I was a part during the Bush and first-term Obama years) was basically a way to keep conservatives asleep at the wheel so cultural marxists could run wild for a decade.
At the end of the day you have to impose on people. You can't just order a society strictly around the individual, de Tocqueville knew this two hundred years ago. When dealing with agenda driven people who form a strict minority you have to be aware that granting them an inch under the pretense of personal liberty just means they are going to take a mile of your personal liberty.
That said, on a micro scale, you have to do what you gotta do. Don't have kids unless you are certain you can afford $25,000 / year private school tuition per child.
