I'm watching dbz. Everyone hated on the dub but I didn't think it was that bad but I'm in the freeza arc and at some point the voice acting just went to complete shit. What happened? Suddenly literally everything goku says is flat and corny

The dub that you’re watching is the very first once from the 90s. It was an amateur effort rushed out as fast as possible and is generally regarded as being pretty low quality. It was re-recorded twice, once in 2004 as the ‘Uncut’ version and again in 2010 as the ‘Kai’ version. The Uncut version has better dialogue and music but the Kai version has better performances.

I thought it was a joke the first time I heard the Japanese voice acting for the show. I fricking hate it, it's awful, it sounds like shit, how the frick do those Japs think that is acceptable? I got a big giant torrent file of every dbz shit ever and threw it on plex. At first it was playing the wrong things as different "versions" of the same file. I switched it and got it auto playing the shit I actually wanted in order so it is actually entirely possible I was watching basically any dub
there was a thread with a link to the Ocean dub on archive yesterday- I'm guessing OP might've gotten the torrent there without realizing.
Anyway OP, the first dub group DID end up dubbing the rest of the show- however it's not perfect since they lost a few VAs like Gokus and had to change. Westwood is the name of the company that handled the episodes Funimation took over onward. this was the version that aired in Canada.
