I mean I'd trust em. Immortality sounds boring as frick because eventually you'd outlive everything. also you can get stuck in situations like the "Heaven Sent" episode.

    seriously. frick that.

This would be the only time I'd actually be open to listening to this concept. So far only mortals have given me this answer and since none of them know frick all about what it would actually be like to be free of fear and simply exist for the sake of experience and exploration of both the world and the self. I quickly disregard their conceptual projections.

Sorry, the most recent showrunner revealed that the Doctor was in fact originally a beautiful little black girl from a different universe with unlimited regenerations, meaning they are the only truly immortal being. Also the evil white Gallifreyans stole her power and wiped her mind which made her believe she was a uselessly average male for over 1000 years.

    Immortality is fricking moronic.
You are not the pinnacle of human consciousness.
We have a lot of iteration to go through yet.

Being immortal would mean living through the long slow heat death of the universe which is projected to last a few million times longer than the period in which it will have liveable planets and stars, anon.

The death of the planets. The death of the stars. All fading away/getting hoovered up by black holes until there is nothing but blackness and emptiness forever more. Going mad. Going beyond madness. Going mad again. Eventual endless boredom. Wishing you could go mad once more... Immortality means living through all that too.

Man from earth had the right idea about immortality. Just go on adventures and make friends and leave. How do we know that there are no immortal beings doing this today. Immortality is basically allowing yourself to learn infinite knowledge.

      >Immortality is basically allowing yourself to learn infinite knowledge.
My memory is so shit that even with hundreds of years to learn I'd still end up going "yeah I remember this guy... his name starts with an L I think? And there's an N in there in the middle somewhere... He lived in like the 1600s or 1700s? Anyway he said something like...". I seriously don't get how people memorise song lyrics or poems. I tried to do that all through my teens until I just gave up on the whole idea. If I was an immortal like that guy then people would just keep asking me questions and I'd go "I dunno, I had a great sandwich in 608, though".

I'll never understand the whole "you'll watch everyone you love and care about die..." thing. That still happens when you're not immortal. Every person who reaches 80 or 90 has a long list of friends, acquaintances and family members who died before them and which they might hope to see in an afterlife. My grandma saw three sons and a daughter die in their 30s, her husband dying before her and then she died after having to amputate her fricking leg due to a blood clot, that's not counting all her friends who died before her. And she didn't reach 90. The only difference for an immortal is that they'll also see their kids die even if they reach 120, but at that point why wouldn't you just be able to be happy about what a long and happy life you gave your kid?

I'd rather see my kids die at 100, knowing I've been there with them throughout and made their life good, than dying at 60 and not knowing whether my kid will be okay without me. I feel like the anguish you'll feel for them while dying has got to be worse than the anguish you get from a kid dying of old age.

He's not even immortal. He can only regenerate if the damage is not so bad that he dies before the process can start properly. It's just that every villain in Dr Who is astonishingly incompetent and never just does the obvious shit and vaporize the guy.
