I feel like Dark Empire encapsulates the EU. It's pretty dumb, but it's clearly made with love. It isn't there to tear down what came before, but to just keep it going in the way that the writers, fans of the series, thought would be fun. I thought it was really stupid when I first came across it, but I'm glad it exists.
The Vogn sucked then, suck now, and will always suck. They were the antagonists from some hard SF military-horror novel dropped into the Star Wars universe, and they were fricking lame.
>The Vogn sucked then, suck now, and will always suck. They were the antagonists from some hard SF military-horror novel dropped into the Star Wars universe, and they were fricking lame.
yikes and cringe pilled bro. the vong were a great new enemy and changed up the dynamic from jedi vs sith and/or republic vs imperials - which was sorely needed at that point in the EU and if you look at what came after the Vong, back to jedi vs sith and republic vs imperial.... the EU basically stagnated and was dying and was part of why it was abandoned. The vong novels and the legacy comic book series were the real final chapter of star wars for most fans, with the novels coming after all feeling like a stretched out epilogue.
If they had stolen from the EU the movies might have been better. They just arrived on similar ideas by sheer chance and executed them about a thousand times worse.
>If they had stolen from the EU the movies might have been better. They just arrived on similar ideas by sheer chance and executed them about a thousand times worse.
anyone who actually believes they just randomly, by pure chance, came up with the same ideas as the EU and didnt just bastardize it probably also believes amber heard didnt shit on the bed, OJ was innocent, and joe biden won the election fair and square lol.
I like how virtually every dark sider antagonist after clone Palpatine came to the conclusion that clone Palpatine was a dark shadowy vampire and not a true Sith. Lumiya, Brakiss, Carnor Jax, Caedus, and Darth Krayt all thought & spoke so fricking low of clone Palpatine.
palpatine returning isn't that crazy of an idea for star wars, in fact its logical, the problem is execution. in a world with cloning and the force its not unreasonable. palpatine chasing immortality isnt just an EU think but also a major theme of the prequels. immortality/defeating death is the bait he uses to turn Anakin. the fear of death is central to how the sith control people so overcoming it for themselves would be an obvious objective. even the jedi and qui-gon's force ghost training obiwan/yoda to force ghost, etc is a form of immortality. just two different approaches to it. immortality was a major concept of the prequels and retroactively made it a big part of the original trilogy and thus a required part of the sequel trilogy.
the problem was/is, again the execution and presentation of the concepts. dark empire did it a bit silly with palpatine's magical force posession trick to take over cloned bodies but then disney's version that happens in the sequel trilogy is basically the same concept but they did not explain it AT ALL well enough for their brainlet nu wars fanbase to understand.
if you look at the overall arc of star wars, with the disney trilogy included(yuck i know) then it is about palpatine trying to find the most powerful human vessels of the force and then clone/take over those bodies/make a super force sensitive host body possess.
it could have been a good story, but it was done so stupidly and not explained at all in any way the average audience would understand. palpatine just kinda shows up as a zombie palpatine for the last 5 minutes of the last movie, snoke is or isnt or maybe was a failed clone? maybe its explained in a book? who knows? not 90% of the audience! its never explained, we just see another snoke in a test tube. did palpatine wanna possess rey? or possess kylo? or make them have a baby and possess the baby? why did he want them to fight? who knows! not the audience!
I also think that there's an important distinction to be made between Dark Empire and Disney Wars. RotJ ends with Anakin sacrificing his life to do two things; he kills Palpatine, and he saves Luke. Reviving Palpatine undoes one of those, but in DE, it is Luke who goes on to defeat Palpatine the final time. Anakin's sacrifice is still worthwhile. In DW, Luke is a worthless frickup who contributes nothing of value. Anakin's sacrifice has no weight to it anymore.
Honestly, the idea of some Sith using cloning technology to prolong his life, and ultimately being defeated by the daughter of one of his failed clones is a solid premise for a Star Wars story. Just not Palpatine, and obviously not the way DW did it.
I find it hard to believe people actually object to anything palpatine in DE, he's totally menacing. The more legit gripe is R2 having world devastator codes, but even that is sort of earned. In a movie series based on dark empire, Luke's heel turn would be more fleshed out.
Star Wars should be like Final Fantasy, not focus on Skywalkers and the whole empire shit in every installment.
Leave few basic things from the movies like the force and Jedi and make new stories like KOTOR set in different eras, different parts of the galaxy, with different characters.
The EU fricked it up and now Disney repeated its mistakes. I hope every new Star Wars project fails if they are planning to do the same shit again and again.
>Star Wars should be like Final Fantasy, not focus on Skywalkers and the whole empire shit in every installment. >The EU fricked it up
There is tons of EU content that doesn't focus on the Skywalkers and takes place in different eras.
Tales of the Jedi
The X-Wing Novels
Darth Bane
Republic Commando Novels/Games
Dark Forces Saga
etc.
Remember when Disney bought the franchise and did a smear campaign against the EU and then proceeded to produce content that was basically a shitty bastardization of it? I remember.

>The Star Wars story is really the tragedy of Darth Vader. That is the story. Once Vader dies, he doesn't come back to life, the Emperor doesn't get cloned and Luke doesn't get married
Nobody cares what Lucas thought even when he was running the franchise. Most of the best SW content came from things he had little to no involvement in.
Dark Empire is crap. The Rise of Skywalker is crap.
>Dark Empire is crap.
what a weird way of saying "I'M A homosexual!" lol
Dark Empire was kino
Tales of the Jedi/Sith was kino
The New Jedi Order was kino
the Prequels were kino
and the Rogue Squadron was all kino
World Devastators would have made the First Order feel a lot more plausible.
>Dark Empire was kino
>Tales of the Jedi/Sith was kino
>The New Jedi Order was kino
>the Prequels were kino

This guy gets it. Also add the Jedi Apprentice, Young Jedi Knights, Darth Bane Trilogy, and Darth Plagueis and it's fricking perfect.
No Jedi Prince?
Dark Greetings
I kneel

Seven Dark Jedi = Knights of Ren
Failed Palpatine clones = Snoke
Byss and Eclipse-class Star Destroyer = Exogal and the Star Destroyer fleet
It's nuts how much was lifted from Dark Empire
Remember when all the shills promised that the nu-canon wouldn't be as cheesy and stupid as the EU?
Anti-Vong gays can get fricked.
The Vogn sucked then, suck now, and will always suck. They were the antagonists from some hard SF military-horror novel dropped into the Star Wars universe, and they were fricking lame.

They had to have arrived there by accident because Palpatine wasn't even supposed to be in the ST originally.
starkiller = galaxy gun
It's kinda funny how all the shit parts of the old EU happened post ROTJ followed by Disney making an even worse version
Amazing right? A multi billion corp can’t produce better stuff.
Palpatine returning in any way is one of the worst ideas ever conceived. It completely ruins the RotJ ending.

sheev thread?
No, this is a Star Wars thread. Sheev is Disney shit, and thus unwelcome.
WRONG
BITCH
What's the exchange rate between sheevs and morbs?
going rate 1 sheev is worth about 12 morbs according to forex

Why live?

He changed his mind about this later, kind of.
Dark Empire is good, George likes it and it was George who suggested the Emperor's return. Apologize!
Use the force Luuke
Go to bed Zahn.
