It's an eternal cycle. There's backlash to current trends that often starts with legitimate criticisms, then people bandwagon on that backlash just because they like to be "against" something/anything, then that movement hits a critical point where it becomes the new mainstream, there's a backlash to that, etc etc etc.
Normies are valuable. In the same way that 'essential rockers' are valuable. In the same way spit and sweat and the process of shitting and coughing and pissing are valuable to the body. They upkeep it. But that doesn't make them desirable to be around nor respectable to perform.
Normies are the padding of society, the bubblewrap, they are the crop above which the unique rise and inside which the slightly more unique yet not socially respected get to hide blissfully.
A society without normies is like a body without sweat, it'll overheat or dry out, it's needed.
But I don't wanna feel or smell your sweat, and you're not deserving of praise just for performing a basic biological function.
TLDR: FRICK OFF NORMIE REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
That's not even a specific Cinemaphile board anymore, it's not even Cinemaphile anymore. Discord, Reddit, and even Tumblr have all co-opted it because "normies" as a term is designed to create an outgroup and an in-group and the more you see it in different places, the more you realize that it's definition often expands to "every group of socially awkward morons except my specific group of socially awkward morons who are, of course, the special unique socially awkward morons who society just doesn't understand because they display the specific traits that I was bullied for in high school."
Meh, I saw "furry pride" types using it and realized that this is it, this is the hell we created. Every Tumblr-OC making, "wholesome post" upvote-whoring, post-post-post ironic meme-making, "comfort show" watching, "I'm so kwerky" presenting, e-dating, UwU speaking, "spiritual but not religious" babbling, daddy issues having moron is now using this word as a shield for their own obnoxious discussion ruining homosexualry, and we're to blame.

to be fair
TO BE FAIR
there WAS a time where those folks werent considered normies, and even now the most weird and insane of them aren't, the whole 'uwu widdol babu i can't into adulting' meme is just more accepted among normies, but actual full blown oldschool tumblr freaks still aren't normies in the traditional sense, aka the normalized mindless 'default' folk of society
This is true but it also feels like, you remember how everyone used to make fun of us because we were having trouble accepting our hobbies and such had been mainstreamed? A lot of their old culture got mainstreamed and it feels like they can't stand it because it isn't just the media but the whole damn "le wholesome" culture they had going and when you remember just how much that culture valued this idea of being strong and brave in the face of an uncaring society, it naturally drives them fricking insane because they never actually wanted acceptance for the fandom shit. When the Twitter Musk thing happened, they started going batshit trying to demonstrate how "cringe" they are to chase people off so they could do the classic "chase off website refugees strategy" without having to be unwholesome about it.

Yeah and that's why the term 'normie' doesn't always apply.
These people are disingenuous twats. Normies tend to be that, but not everyone who is that is a normie. Every raven is a bird, but not every bird is a raven.
It makes his Johnny Depp video make so much more sense now. That entire "drama" was the most utterly pointless affair in entertainment media, especially because it ended with both of them paying each other.
I'll say, it dominated the fricking internet for the month of May, and everyone was streaming reactions to it and joining actual made teams and shit.
And then they both basically settled out and it just stopped. and all I had at the end was a broken brain from all the stupidity I had to endure that ENTIRE time.
Being alt-right and edgy has kind of become the new 'normal' and shitty cancerous conservaboos and contrarian types constantly rail about normies without realizing they're more mainstream and pedestrian than ever nowadays. They just aren't represented much in Media because who the frick wants to make a story about THAT sort of person. Even other edgelords don't want to see it.
Is disparaging counterculture still counterculture

It seemed like the mainstream settled for good around a decade ago though.

>NEETs calling normies the shit and sweat of society
Oh the ironing
It feels more like Cinemaphile in a nutshell
I think it applies to the whole website, even the sleepy quiet comfy boards with like 3 posters

And yet Cinemaphile has a lot of actual normies nowadays and you can tell when they get angry over the use of the word normie

It was kinda just a regular ass big "televised celebrity trial" but with the internet more involved than usual.
