How can this atrophied hack be considered the greatest living filmmaker by anybody? He had one great movie, There Will Be Blood, and the rest is solid but not amazing. Why do people like The Master so much?
Great performances by the actors, great characters, great score, great production, great historical accuracy, sure. But it lacked a strong sense of purpose; there was no "ass" behind the story that could make it compelling for me. It's not the sort of endlessly interesting movie that you could talk and talk and talk about in the same way other great movies are (like for example, There Will Be Blood).
I am phone posting , you clearly knew it was mistyped which was a innocent mistake while you will always be a tasteless pleb who gets filtered by anything outside the IMDb top 250.

Still don't know quite what you're trying to say. PTA himself has far better character studies, as in TWBB. Like I said, I don't dislike The Master, I think it's a good movie, but it fails in that department. It doesn't have the same sort of gut punch that great stories do. I dunno if that IMDB comment is you projecting or what because I don't see how anything I said could possibly make you think that.
>This is a bit of a nothing movie
it has many kino moments

I have the money to give you right now, in this moment. I will give you all that I have. Maybe before you were gonna kill me. Maybe. I don't know. I know John, and I love him like he was my own child. But I can tell you this: I don't want to die. I killed his father. I can tell you what it was. This is not an excuse. I'm not begging for clemency. All that matters, I do not wish to sacrifice my life for John's well-being. But I will sacrifice this money for mine because you have asked me. Because after this, I will have done all I can for John and for myself. I'm going to ask you with all the heart and sincerity that I have, please do not put a bullet in me. And, please, don't tell John what I've done. I trust that once I give you this money, you and I will take separate paths and that this negotiation will settle everything. That is my hope. I don't wanna die.
Easy, like this: >get entire filmography >put them in a bit and set ablaze outside at night >sit comfortably, stare into the fire, get in meditative state >ponder the universe, existence, how life is nothing but a game >acquire soul ascension and realize all of this is a distraction
1. The Master
2. Inherent Vice
3. There Will Be Blood
4. Magnolia, but only if you're 21 or younger
5. That one scene in Boogie Nights where William H Macy shoots his prostitute wife (just youtube it)
6. Laugh at the disgusting brainlets who think Punch-Drunk Love isn't one of the worst movies ever made
7. Go watch some Scorsese or Mamet and stop pretending to be more interesting than you are
Boogie Nights if you can stomach imitation Scorcese. Then, skip to There Will be Blood. Nothing between is worth watching. His movies after are interesting, but messy at best.
Magnolia then punch drunk love then the master then you're done
inherent vice was kino
don't watch any
Just do it in release order but skip Sidney/Hard Eight. Then you'll get to see how his style changes.
Boogie Nights is his best. The rest are all various degrees of boring.
Its a scorsese rip off and pta's ideas are done better in his later films
pta is at his best when he's making Scorsese kino
At the beginning until The Master of which you really only need to watch the processing scene

Joaquin and PSH gave their best performances, the production design is one of the best for any 40s/50s setting I've seen.

Filtered, did you not appreciate the character study of man and wanted to belong/find meaning. You just want it all spelled out for you. Zoomer btw
>did you not appreciate the character study of man and wanted to belong/find meaning
Rewrite that so it's comprehensible and I'll respond to it.

this but polanski instead of pta
what's the one good polanski movie? Don't say Ninth Gate
the pianist
THE NINTH GATE
Literally who
chronologically, as always
Boogie Nights, The Master and Phantom Thread are his best movies.
>In what order should one watch his kinos?
release order, that way you can watch him evolve as a filmmaker
This is a bit of a nothing movie, he might just decide to drop him if he starts with that.

they're shit so don't watch any of them
boogie nights then there will be blood and thats it the rest is optional
Just skip hard eight, inherent vice and licorice pizza
IV has some good moments.
Start with Boogie Nights and watch the rest of them in order.
In case you're wondering what the top 3 are...
1. There Will be Blood
2. Punch Drunk Love
3. The Master
When will we recognize Inherent Vice as one of the best films of the 2010s?
When we go through a nuclear winter and the only films we recover from the 2010s are Inherent Vice and Adam Sandler movies
Never, it's absolutely mogged by Under the Silver Lake
I watched Boogie Nights for the first time a couple days ago, I really liked it.
Check if PSH is in them, especially if he has a big role.
The wiener at the end of boogie nights didn't even look real, kind of a flat ending
i love pta bros i don’t care if that makes me a pseud. twbb is so good
pta is one of the greats, you are based for liking him

>put them in a bit and set ablaze outside at night
>sit comfortably, stare into the fire, get in meditative state
>ponder the universe, existence, how life is nothing but a game

And then get right back on Cinemaphile enlightened
Just because you become awakened doesn’t mean you stop playing the game. It just means the game becomes more fun.

opinion disregarded

Sell me on The Master
i hope he has some movies similar to The Master and TWBB left, Licorice Pizza was very nice but holy shit it was forgettable
