I think it’s done this was for humor, but that joke is at the cost of world building on how the emotions work. You would now also have to assume whether everyone’s emotions look like Riley’s but with unique differences which means Riley is the default, or that the reasons the parents have emotions that look like Riley’s is only because Riley are related but that still doesn’t remove the issue that Riley’s is the default.
Don't forget when they show that they can literally send memories up to HQ for the sake of the gum joke, and then Joy and Sadness decide not to send the core memories back.
Explanation: some emotions like horniness are situational. Joys and Sadness and Hate can affect all or most of your decisions but Horny only pops up when something makes you horny.

There won't be new emotions (every other character in the movie had 5). Instead of that, the movie will show in detail how the current emotions "mix" with each other to create new feelings, like Joy and Sadness creating "melancholy" at the climax of the movie.

I will never understand the so called appeal of Inside Out. Hated the movie. Hated the concept. Hated the ugly characters which will not make me interested in the movie. And I hate how the emotions are designed. They kind of look like Sesame Street rejects but instead of puppets its computer animated blobs. And I really hated Joy who is Pixar Marge Simpson.
Hope this sequel fails. Hell hope all these incoming sequels for Toy Story, Frozen, Zootopia fail as well.
Inside Out IS boring but it sold well due to Pixar's image and brand power still being strong. Think it was around Soul and Onward and Luca that Pixar started to be underwhelming. No no one really cares about Pixar. This is why Elio is scheduled to be future failure for Pixar. And really now we don't need Pixar anymore. Even video games can do comparable visuals to Pixar's stuff like Ratchet and Clank by Sony. But here's the thing gaming companies can do what Pixar does somewhat while generally making their characters look decent. I can't stand Pixar's character designs like in Turning Ugly Chink Red.

I couldn't watch that movie strictly because the characters look so ugly. And no it's not because they are black. Even the non blacks looked ugly. And could not stand watching Luca also because the characters are awkward looking. Pixar doesn't know how to do stylized humans the way the Peanuts Movie of recent years did it. Pixar is simply lousy at doing humans and yet they keep trying when their best work is inhuman characters like Wall E or Toy Story.
