Do we really need Iron Man, just come up with a new hero and new villains. I'm tired of seeing the same recycled shit over and over.
But we have several games out there that pull from Tony's gimmick. So seeing an actual Iron Man game would be the change of pace. His mechanics and abilities are plenty for a fun gaming experience.
I'm just concerned about levels. You want the space to move around, but not where its clunky. Avengers game might have been shit, but Iron Man did control competently
The Avengers game did a lot wrong, but the way characters played was something that people apparently agreed that they felt was on point.
Yeah you can obviously tell there was love put into it at some point during production, but somewhere along the line a strong single player experience devolved into a GaaS nightmare. Thor played really well too, and I'd love for him to get his own game at some point. Would Santa Monica do it since they were brought in as a consultant, or is that too similar to their God of War shit?
Kind of funny how DC fell in line with that with Gotham Knights and now Suicide Squad shaping up to possibly be an even bigger stinker.
You got to remember though that both of those projects were in production for a LONG time before Avengers came out and sunk. That, and you have to consider all of the behind the scenes complications involving the WB/Discovery negotiations that never happened.
Either way, watching the Avengers single player campaign, it was obvious it was meant to be more tight and linear, with it becoming clear which designs were meant for something like a single player experience versus one meant for multiplayer, and even more obvious with how patchwork their multiplayer system was, like it was never meant for it in the first place.
As for GK and Suicide Squad, I guess they just missed the boat on GaaS being something people would ge willing to explore, to something people got sick of, barring clear exceptions like Fortnite, Destiny, and Genshin Impact that established a captive audience.
Crazy to think how many characters and how much content was scrapped from Avengers. I could list it all if you want.
GK was obviously a recycled script for a AK sequel. What a shitshow of a game.
Scrapped from what was supposed to be included on release, or what was due to be added? I didn't even know anything about Gotham Knight's development, but I knew people would be more angry about not being able to play as Batman than anything else GaaS related.
>Scrapped from what was supposed to be included on release, or what was due to be added?
A good bit was about half done, or at least in early stages. For example data miners found voice clips of characters reacting to said characters, along with script data showing attack names. Pic related was a leaked War Machine design, who never made it into the game but instead became a free Iron Man skin when the game was announced to cease all support. Jane Foster Thor was a last minute addition to the game before everything went south because Crystal Dynamics couldn't crank out characters fast enough, and she's basically a Thor skin with a different cooldown attack. Kate Bishop, Clint Barton, Winter Soldier, and Black Panther were the only characters to ever get finished/released. Spidey too if you count him, but he was PlayStation exclusive. You could see the cut corners with Bucky.
The following were all leaked/planned characters that will now never see the light of day:
>She-Hulk
>Scarlet Witch
>Doctor Strange
>War Machine
>Ant-Man (Scott)
>Wasp
>Captain Marvel
>Captain Mar'Vell
>Quake
>Mockingbird
>Vision
I was waiting for Vision to be in to buy it but I knew it would never happen and was just a rationalization to put it off
Apparently they were going to use the one earth power from the one adaptoid enemy for quake
They also planned to have the inhuman royal family pop up which with the story of the game you figured would have had s bigger role in the game
Captain Marvel better get her own game soon
Especially if it has sex game over screens, ok but horny aside you could use tons of the underused aliens in the marvel universe as enemy types plus could start the game with her on earth fighting guys like Scorpion or Tiger Shark then escalate to cosmic level foes like Firelord and Xemnu or Ex Nihilo/Nihila
Was it true that before Kamala they were going to have a avatar character that you could customize and was basically s create a inhuman
I ask cause I remember a early blurb about the game mentioning that and seeing how the adaptoids different power sets and how the npc inhumans kind of have a create a character feel
It dose feel that was the orginal intention before swapping in Kamala as the main character
Create-a-character definitely didn't have enough pull to save Midnight Suns, but that game had a myriad of issues of its own.
I give that game credit for doing a create a character
I really want to see that tried again in a avengers game
Midnight Suns was fantastic. Wish people gave it a chance earlier(myself included)
Disney butting in and limiting the dating sim element also i feel hurt the game
Frick Disney tbh, they are so out of touch it's unreal at this point. If I could have made a character to frick She-Hulk or something it would hehe been an instant buy
I'm finally playing it because of the humble bundle and it's neat, but the exploration of the grounds was way too fricking shallow since I'm already done with it and I'm nowhere near through the story. Personally I just couldn't sanction their price buffoonery. Even now the fricking season pass is more expensive than loads of full games. Utterly ridiculous.
maybe you should try supporting new stuff instead of hoping for the absence of old ip
I've always wanted a War Machine VR game, i feel his weapon loadout is better suited for a video game than Iron Man's repulsior blast.
Obviously you want to do everything Tony can normally do: flight, super strength, repulsor beams, missiles, that sort of thing.
I think you could borrow the targeting/scanning system from Metroid Prime and have Tony be able to scan things and learn about them in his environment. That would be cool and could be a way to do in-game storytelling.
Bare minimum you need the Silver Centurion armor, the space armor, the underwater armor, and the Hulkbuster suit. I'd love for there to be a lot more armors as well.
Different suits mean different capabilities, not just horseshit like +2 to melee or range and +10% boost power, actual different weapons, subsystems, and ways to mitigate damage, and make flying actually feel good and worth doing to fit the flow of combat, not just a glorified travel mechanic.
I think suits should be mostly cosmetic, but you can retrofit whatever you want to each skin to fit your playstyle. An example; you can either have a powerful wrist rocket, or scattershot mini missiles from the shoulders. Single slot, basically choosing between firepower or AoE. So you're "building your own suit" to play how you want. Could be slots like
>Repulsors
>Rockets
>Tool (like drones or something)
I think they need to HEAVILY get away from the idea of suits being solely cosmetic. They need to make sure that each of them has a specific function. The absolute best way to do it would be to have a singular base for each suit type over the years (Silver Centurion, Prometheus, Extremis, etc.) and then have a number of parts that are for each suit which further modify whatever its intended abilities are. Like Silver Centurion has some funky kinetic abilities that let you catch projectiles and move them around instead of dodging, while Extremis has bonuses to laser damage from its special satellite cannon, that sort of thing. Then from there you have chest pieces, shoulder pieces, leg pieces, etc. which modify various stats and abilities, and finally you have general weapons like missiles and such that are universally applicable to all suit types.
If we want to feel like Iron Man we need to feel like a gearmonkey. We need to be going into our suit construction like we're playing Battletech, getting the edge by focusing our strengths into specific areas by tinkering.
But the problem with that is, likely every fantasy RPG game, you're punishing the player for wanting to dress up their character the way that they want. That's why Spider-Man 1's costumes didn't lock abilities to the suits, because they wanted players to have the freedom to play and look how they desired.
So say I wanted to play Silver Centurion, but his abilities sucked or didn't fit my playstyle. What do I do?
I agree with this anon. Powers and costumes should be separate.
The same thing I do in Armored Core if I want to be able to take shot but don't want to use tank legs: use the best with what I've got. Spider-Man works fine because his game doesn't literally revolve around the suits. I can guarantee that if the game doesn't heavily revolve around inherent strengths for each suit being heavily tied to its appearance and handling that the game will die. They HAVE to get away from the idea that you can look the same from beginning to end.
Spider-Man's suits are mostly cosmetic, though, and aside from a few specific cases, don't add to his abilities. Iron Man's armors should be differentiated based on their functions because they're different marks with varying pieces of tech on the inside, so some should be better at one or more things than others, and others should lack certain systems but make up for it in other ways. If people want to have their own layered cosmetic bullshit so they can see the armor they want to use as an option, go ahead, but different armors being just cosmetic is lame as frick for a character typified by having different suits with different pieces of tech and functions.
AGAIN, anon, players don't want to be shackled to abilities when dressing up their character. Just swap out abilities and gadgets, regardless of how you look. That simple
I do. I don't want every suit to be the same but with a different appearance. I want each suit to be entirely different with a completely different playstyle.
And you'd be the dumb minority
Correction: I'd be the minority, nothing about my stance is dumb. It is not sensible to make a game that caters to someone wanting to transmog everything when the gameplay revolves around tinkering with equipment. Equipment should have a distinctive appearance which correlates to its abilities. There should be enough variation to provide some level of capability to customize within a fashionable ability your version of Iron Man, but nothing should be functionally the same or else there is no motivation to collect all of the appearances beyond that which is most appealing.
Whatever Iron Man game eventually exists that is a hit needs to give the sense of being a machinist sim, even if it is only skin deep. Iron Man is NOT Spider-Man, you can disagree if you want but this is the truth and this is what will make an Iron Man game interesting enough to gain mass appeal.
You can get all that without fricking with skins. I dont know why this is a hard concept for you to grasp
It's not difficult for me to grasp, I'm just telling you that it's at odds with the notion of a game where you necessarily tool with parts. You can agree or disagree but I'm not an idiot and fully understand and disagree with your point of view.
And I'm telling you that your autism needs to be put in check and what you're asking for is limiting player freedom
>what you're asking for is limiting player freedom
Yes. If I could fly around at 1000km/hr using tank legs in Amored Core it would necessarily take away from the central nature of the game. If I could punch someone in Mark I armor with the strength of the Hulkbuster it would necessarily detract from Tony's entire gimmick. Everything is not MMO's and not everything should be a fashion show, "player freedom" is a stupid fricking term you are throwing around because you are trying to equate transmogging with freedom. You are relentlessly argumentative and aggressively stupid so I am sure you will have an annoying moronic retort that I am not interested in listening to but sure I will have to bear glancing at before rolling my eyes and closing the thread. Go ahead and subject me to it.
>If I could punch someone in Mark I armor with the strength of the Hulkbuster it would necessarily detract from Tony's entire gimmick
You're the only person triggered by this. Do you lose your mind wearing the Scarlet Spider skin in Spider-Man, and everyone calls him Peter? And leave, no one cares
>You're the only person triggered by this.
He's not triggered, because he's right, it's stupid. Treating a Mark 1 and Hulkbuster like the same armor but with a different skin in gameplay is peak moronation.
>Do you lose your mind wearing the Scarlet Spider skin in Spider-Man, and everyone calls him Peter?
It's just a costume, Ben and Peter are functionally similar because they're literal clones, the Mark 1 is a glorified life support suit, the Hulkbuster was made to fight the Hulk, it's not the same thing you lackwit.
The hulkbuster would obviously be a special ability, it's disingenuous to bring it into this conversation. Mark 1 though? Sure. Just like you can have high tech web shooters and shockers and drones in the spidey outfits like the one that's just boxers and his mask, or the first outfit he made to try wrestling.
Skin-obsessed smoothbrains don't want variation, they want the same thing repackaged in a different skin, where the Mark 1 functions just the same as Extremis, which also functions the same as a War Machine mark. They want a character that actually has a good reason to have the possibility of different outfits to perform differently to all be the same basic template that all have the same inputs and performance parameters, with the difference being one armor is matte grey and black and the other is electric blue and gold.
It's not a character like Spider-Man or Wolverine who basically do the same thing no matter what they wear, it's fricking Iron Man.
>where the Mark 1 functions just the same as Extremis, which also functions the same as a War Machine mark
Scroll up, moron. We've been over this
I did, your stance is just moronic.
First of all, your own argument is flawed because you're dumb enough to state War Machine would be a skin in the first place and not a separate character entirely. Of course he would play different. Secondly, you didn't address the earlier point, merely disagreed and threw out an insult. You're actively robbing the player of choice and options.
What you're describing is just a skin, though? You're saying Iron Man should just have skins that all do the same thing. If you disagree with that then you're...saying what we are.
>If people want to have their own layered cosmetic bullshit so they can see the armor they want to use as an option, go ahead, but different armors being just cosmetic is lame as frick for a character typified by having different suits with different pieces of tech and functions.
Your idea sucks ass, bro. Most of Tony's suits function the exact same unless they're situational like The Hulkbuster
I didn't play it but i feel like you'd want an Armored Core style customizability of the suits. Changing them depending on missions and stuff. And then paint jobs and aesthetics are a layer over that.
Haven't played it either, but from what I did see from Armored Core they did have decent movement via floaty foot rockets. That's something I'd expect from an Iron Man game.
Maybe not so much Tony, but that gameplay reminds me more of how War Machine may function. Playing as Rhodey would be a must, right?
Main mechanic will by pay by the minute.
hopefully a good story that can stand out without just feeling like discount RDJ MCU Iron Man that it can stand on its own worthy.
Part of me would love if they used some iron man characters from the comics that havent been used
Also I know thetr going to plop pepper potts in the game but I would love if some of Tony's other love interest would get used or have a dating sim element
What's your favorite movie suit they'll inevitably add to this game?
The suitcase suit from 2
I know it was supposed be sort of silver centurion esque but I love that suit
And totally can see it in the game
Melter as an enemy/mini-boss who keeps his c-list vibe but he also can totally frick your equipment up with his melting and can essentially be that one guy you dread seeing
Oh that would be a good idea
Can see tony wonder how the hell he keeps having trouble with him each time he faces him even with new armor and upgrades
Yeah and Melter is just being a belligerent/shit talking the whole time no matter how much you beat him, literally I don’t hear no bell personified. Like you can have other lower tier enemies that can step up/affect your armour in varied ways like Blizzard is fairly affable with his banter or just plain nice and his freezing either slows down your movements or weapons and can risk locking you up mid flight and doing great. damage. Main villain wise for a game I’d like to see Controller get some prominence and that’s not just cause he could mind control heroines for a boss fight or have innocent civilians attack you in the main world
>Tony's suits have self-repair protocols
>They're nanites, but they're still in the prototype stage so he can't make a full suit out of them
>Fighting Melter means he can damage your abilities/gadgets, resulting a long debuff until the nanites fix them
>Melter will trash talk and actually go out of his way to melt random things that belong to Iron-Man to provoke random encounters
>side mission that leads to you getting jumped by the Masters of Evil that he was a founding member of cause he’s an butthole
Man could imagine some of the enemy's sort of like how mr freeze was in Arkham city and you can just Spam one attack to beat them you would have to use you're whole arsenal of gadgets and weapons to beat them in different ways
Aye and for the more straightforward rival fights you could have Titanium man or Crimson Dynamo, perhaps with Titanium Man favouring just simple lasers in combination with good ol fisticuffs like he super armors through your long range stuff to cave in your skull. Actually going by Crimson Dynamo maybe you could be funny and just have all the mantle holders in the game and have it be a different one you fight each time before ending in you having to fight them all at once
1)full armor customization
I'm talking paintjobs, different components, special attacks. like, your basic hits and your movement remains the same but stuff like grenades, rockets, laserbeams, tracking rockets, short term invisibility, melee weapons(lightsabers?), etc, should be costomizable. you pick the ones you want
2) good flying mechanics. if webslinging can happen, so should iron man flying. something between web slinging and how Cole could levitate across long distances in infamous games. The traversal is the main gameplay loop, make it fun and cool and feeling like iron man. for frick's sake, don't just skip it.
3)He's a womanizer. For frick's sake, let him womanize. It doesn't have to be much. Here's how I've thought about it:
there are say, 4 women comic book characters he can be with. Say, Black Widow, Janet, Pepper and one more (Emma? Shulkie?). You have side missions with them, where some light flirting happens or there's some banter. After you do, a couple missions with each, you have a small scene with JARVIS where he asks you if you fancy anyone lately. If you say no, the rest of their side missions play normally. If you pick 1 of them, that one's side mission has some romantic moments (nothing major for the plot, maybe some fade to black, a nice little tibbit)
4)For villains, Mandarin should probably be the big one. he fits as someone who with his resources could have also "helped" the other villains you've faced. Smaller arc villains could be like Hammer or Stane and very small villains, who are just hired guns, like crimson dynamo, living laser, whiplash, etc. You can also use general purpose marvel bad guys, like taskie, or some spider-man enhanced street level villain too.
For love interest theres
Bethany Cabe
Madame Masque
Justine Hammer
Anna Wei
Rumiko Fujikawa
Janice Cord
Joanna Nivena
Veronica Benning
Indries Moomji
No, you idiot. Rumiko and Bethany are bad ideas. You need to incorporate them in the gameplay, to make their presence and participation fun, they need to be fellow superheroes who can fight alongside him. Plus, banging a superhero character, an established one that has an existence of her own is much cooler than banging mini characters. And we want Tony to be cool.
Also. Tony x Nat is a big thing for me, so if your list keeps ignoring them, you and I will be having words.
Overly invested, awkward, toxic words.
Capiche?
I was just posting examples
For options
Bad examples. I understand within main 616 the practical use of using one off chars for love interests, because editorial might have other plans for the character on the side, buuuut. In a game, we can go wild. Give him the big names.
Well it depends if they are allowed big names and not forced just to use pepper
I would be all for black widow or wasp as big name choices
Pepper compared to Rumiko or Bethany as the bonus of Rescue and being able to help. I honestly think if the love interests appear in side quests and fight alongside you, it adds more charm to them than if they're just there for cutscenes or to be protected (or worse than all, want to be involved in the action, but can't fight, like insomniac's mj). Besides, we keep hearing "womanizer playboy", but you know, we never see it. He should be dazzling in that.
True I would dig that
Maybe add in a potential making a force works bit there
Cringe
I've always felt that Tony never had a really good love interest. Maybe it's because I don't like "civvies", so that rules out Beth (even though she's my favourite of the bunch) and Rumiko, but what else is there? Janet's fun, but too tied to Pym and honestly, even though I think Pym's redundant, he's been bullied so much over the years that I'd just prefer to ignore everything related to him and have him retire and be happy. If you ever asked me, I'd say that MCU Pym is the best case scenario, and that he should've been Tony's old professor/uncle type of figure, with both of them creating Ultron. But that's another discussion.
Anyway, what do you have beyond that? Nat? She's hot, and she fits, but she's too tied to others now. Not that I like it, mind you. In the 60s Tony was a contemporary of Fury, but as time went on Tony became this embarrassing quipster and Fury became Cap's buddy, when SHIELD was literally founded by Stark and Fury before the retcons. If Tony still had that kind of persona, him and Nat would work. As it stands... Then there's Emma. tbh, it's the pairing I think fits the most, but she's such a prostitute that I cannot take her seriously at this point. She's intelligent, she comes from a similar background, it provides a tie to the X-Men, by all accounts it's a good pairing. But it feels kinda hollow. She's been Shaw's, Scott's, and Namor's toy, and none of them ever wanted to marry her, and now Tony comes in and settles? Eh, I don't know. But they have Hellfire history, and you could make the argument that they were together before she went with the rest, so who knows? In an AU it could work.
For me, you should just rework Madame Masque. Make her a scientific terrorist working at AIM, basically mix her with Monica Rappaccini and have her be basically Italian female Doctor Doom (sans the magic). It's a type of character that fits, it's a nice rework, and she's already an established LI of his.
Defeatism, anon. If things changed, they can very well change back. Dig your heels in the sand, demand the version of Tony that you wanted, from the past, or your head and the corresponding love interest. Writers and editorial give little thought to character history when it comes to the storylines they promote and the audience is supposed to be more conservative? Frick that.
Its odd how Madame Masque is appearing more in Spidey books lately than Iron Man
Armor customization.
You can have preloads, but let people build specialized shit or just do their favorite weapon combination.
for the story, Ultimate Armor Wars and Doomquest
Just don't have the villain be himself or mostly his fault. That's lame.
Agreed
I mean come on, we all know its going to be Mandarin, right?
In theory, there is one other option. But they don't have the balls for it. Right? RIGHT?
I'm fine with mandarin
The villain should be a sentient bottle of Whiskey
No, the bottle of whiskey is the final safeguard against the undefeatable villain.
Flying mechanics are the most important IMO, same way every Spider-Man game is judged by its swinging mechanics.
Should feel fluid but solid. If you fly into a wall it isn’t like nothing happens, it’s bad.
just reskin AC6
flying under the influence
make it Armored Core but with Iron Man and add a side of having to run Stark Industries to get money to spend on the parts
Just make about the armor wars, focus on boss fights with iconic villains and cool gameplay mechanics, avoid Bendis and modern stuff at all costs.
80s to early 90s Iron Man comic storylines were really good (until the crossing) even if they didn’t sold much, they true tot the character.
Kurt Busiek phase was good too, it wa all downhill since them.
Who is Tony's greatest enemy anyway? Feels like a lot of his bad guys are just....there, stagnant because writers constantly harp on Tony being his own worst enemy. You don't have this problem with other Marvel heroes
>Spider-Man = Green Goblin
>Captain America = Red Skull
>Thor = Loki
>Fantastic Four = Doctor Doom
>Wolverine = Sabretooth
Thought mandarin was his greatest enemy hell the 90s cartoon had him as that.
So its just Mandarin? When is the last time they even interacted?
Mandarin
Titanium Man
Crimson Dynamo
Radioactive Man
Fine Fang Foom
A Fin Fang Foom boss fight would go really hard if you fight him small but after it not deterring him you have to fight him In a mech about his size
On a personal level, I like Sunset Bain a lot
The funny thing with Iron man is that when his villains die they generally stay dead so Obadiah Stane and Justine Hammer who are both pretty great villains and arguably some of his arches just have stayed dead for 30 years apart from adaptions using the
His nemesis is obviously the Mandarin, but I think Zeke was perfect as a modern foil. He's a younger, more ruthless, AnCap-esque "digital nomad" technoterrorist. What better way to challenge Tony than with someone younger, "better" and who believes in pretty much nothing?
I get your point, but even beyond that I don't think Nat is the best LI. It's kinda like Catwoman and Batman. I can see it from an angle, but I don't think it'd last as it lacks proper foundation. I myself think you need people more similar; in background, character, goals. It's why I like Batman with Talia or Andrea. Tony more or less lacks that, beyond I guess now Emma and maybe Janet.
I guess it depends on what you look for in a pairing
tony in crystal dynamics' game was pretty cool. i could see an iron man game working. but honestly i dont want a game just with iron man. just get cd to make another avengers game but give it like an 80 hour singleplayer story mode with optional co-op and get rid of all the online shit
>What suits, mechanics, villains, and other features would you want for the game?
None, Iron Man sucks.
Iron Man has the most potential of every established hero. I mean the dude has like 70 different Iron Man suits, Hulk-buster, God-buster, etc. He even rebuilt a Celestial IIRC. Meaning he could effectively fight any villain.
You could upgrade each suit with new weapons, better speed or defenses, etc.
the mandarin being the main villain something the MCU completely missed the boat with
I know they did MODOK in both the Avengers Video Game and Ant-Man 3, but still, AIM could work as villain for the game as well.
Those licensed capeshit games are a scourge.
I want a literal fricking customizable shop for all Iron Armors. And it really better not be in a paywall. Or some bullshit farming shit.
>Dead Space Remake
Oh, sweet, so Happy will be a pajeet and Pepper will be straight up Nigerian. Cool beans.
Don't let Insomniac make it. Idk why Marvel handed them the exclusive licence to Spider-Man and the X-Men until 2030.
Read the OP, moron
I want to know one thing. How do you strike a proper balance? PC game based on the first movie was almost insultingly easy and from what I've heard Xbox version is pretty hard (never played it, just going from what I've heard)
Has there ever been a game that handled a flying character well? Everything else about Iron Man seems perfect for a game, especially some Metroidvania-style game where you invent new suit tech to get you into new areas or move around faster, but I don't trust them to incorporate flying well.
I think the problem is that they use flying as an excuse to pad out a open-world/sandbox map.
Just my two cents.
Reading your little fight, I think there's compromise to be made.
Arkham Origins Initiation skins have slight gameplay alterations from normal Batman skins. They're different showing a less experienced and well-equipped Bruce Wayne, but not too different meaning you don't have to drastically change your playstyle.
Maybe something similar could be done for Iron Man as well.
>inb4 >he likes Arkham Origins, opinion discarded
>Blade and Iron Man are getting some decent developers behind their games, so we might actually have a solid influx of Marvel games ahead of us that aren't just mobile shovelware
>mfw despite that, my dream game of a Thief 2 knockoff staring Gambit will never, ever happen
>0% chance of getting a game set in WWII where you're playing as Namor, who's broken out of a Nazi experimentation facility by Captain America and gets his payback while moving across Europe towards the Atlantic, slowly getting stronger and stronger the more hydrated he gets until he's throwing tanks around in a rage and destroying Nazi subs sent to invade Atlantis
feels bad man
