Is?

It'll be a decade since S1 when it drops in 2025, so many of the actors will look old for the role (and we won't get Bernard Hill as Norfolk), but I'm just grateful it's being made, and by the same creative team as in S1

I just checked and Debbie Wiseman, the composer for S1, is back for S2. Hope she delivers, her work in S1 was one of the best things about it

post-production for something like this shouldn't take too long though? I'dve thought S2 would be out late this year November/December time

Nogs and Arabs in the new cast list. It's over.

Mind highlighting which of the cast members are actually black/arab? S1 felt like the team cares about historical accuracy and authenticity, I'm having a hard time imagining them shoehorning in POC in S2, even with the cucked state of the BBC

The link has the new cast and who they're playing. Here's two:
          >Cecilia Appiah (Hijack, The Chelsea Detective) as Nan Seymour
          >Amir El-Masry (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) as Thomas Wyatt

          FRICK
The arab might pass as a swarthy Atkinsonian Brit, but why, WHY would they hire a BLACK for a member of the Seymour family

Is what it is. Can't say I'm the biggest fan of this change either, but we'll always have season 1, and I guess we couldn't expect S2 to get off without any concessions to current trends, given just how much time has passed since 2015. It'll be pretty much a different entity, but there's nothing we can really do about that, so will have to just enjoy it for what it is. I don't know what Hilary Mantel might have made of it if she were still alive to be asked, though.

Mantel, who died in 2022, argued in favor of diverse casting, despite it diverging from the characters she had in her mind at the time of writing her books. “It’s difficult for me, because to me they’re not characters, they’re people, and I have a very strong sense of them physically,” she said in 2021. “But as soon as you move to stage or the screen, that must yield because you’re in the realm of representation. I think we have to take on board the new thinking.”

That sounds to me less "arguing in favour" and more
                >Frick no, hate that shit, would never do it myself, but can't do anything about it, BBC will have it due,

agreed, think she was too canny to just outright say what she thought about this, and hearing some of what she said about gender, i'm inclined to think she would have been on the right side of history on this one

Yeah, but how about representing actual historical reality?

The thing is they could easily have a few ESG characters while maintaining historical accuracy if they wanted to.

          this is so insane

season 1 tried so hard to remain accurate with clothing, sets, and then the go and pull shit like this

guess things really went insane after 2016

the last muslim area of spain was no more before Henry VIII became King. Before the 16th century really. Regardless of this casting its weird that some characters have been recast entirely. Tom Holland/Mark Gatiss dont come back at all. Duke of Norfolk has been recast, I guess Hill had been in a long sickness. Seriously that' ll be the toughest pill knowing he wont be back.

    Why are they like this?
    >It think Ms. Wyatt’s reasoning is flawed. If we assume all Britain’s were Caucasian we are making a mistake. People of Shakespeare’s time were more diverse than we understand. Caucasian, Celtic and other tribes were often “swarthy”with dark skin, eyes and hair. Even if he was never east of Calais, does she know her ancestors colouring? Paintings were not often true. Remember the glass ceiling? People of other races have no chance of playing British people if we assume the British are “white.” South asians are Caucasian. I say stop being a racist, expand your mind and welcome diversity.

Bumping because we get so few of these threads in here, and even if S2 turns out to be a piece of shit then I still think it would be nice if more people were to into S1, since it is / was a really good show.
