Because it was in fact 2,5 hours of completely wasted runtime and failed build up that's barely coherent without the outside knowledge from the book all because Villehack hates dialog (as he revealed recently for those who haven't figured out already). To be fair, none of this was Paul's intention. It grew out of control, leading to the irony of being a powerful emperor who commands his subjects yet a powerless god who can't stop his worshipers.

Call me crazy but I think the golden path is bullshit and the whole debacle started with the Bene Gesserit playing god, the golden path being the best possible outcome after Paul is born and takes his role as the messiah, and he still fricks up.
The Golden Path is the one truth path and only midwit plebs like yourself can't see that.
Leto thinks he is omniscient at first, but after his plan continues, he begins to worry that he could be wrong, or that the results don't justify his methods. In the end, he accepts that while he did what he felt was personally necessary, humanity will likely forever judge him as a monster.

Dune does not have the potential of spawning a big franchise like LotR, much less something like the MCU.

I love Dune but it's a franchise of diminishing returns. The first novel is fantastic then Messiah is pretty great. Children is okay and God Emperor is slightly better. Then Heretics and Chapterhouse both go so far off the rails I had to force myself to finish them.
