What would you put above it? Personally I have no idea how I'd rank his films besides Tideland going near the bottom (still enjoyed it for how committed it was to retaining the innocent girl's perspective throughout).
Time Bandits was one of my favorites as a kid, but I haven't seen it since. Been meaning to watch it again though. Still haven't gotten around to 12 Monkeys but based on what I've heard those picks seem pretty reasonable.
Since I watched Time Bandits as a kid and Brazil around the time I was graduating college and about to join the workforce, I feel like I should wait until I'm old to watch Baron Munchausen. Should I do it for the kino factor or is it a must watch that I shouldn't wait for?
Aside from its meaning, Brazil looks so fricking good. It's true what they say; with limited resources filmmakers get creative and make truly special work getting their visions realized.
no. something defective about all those monty python homosexuals. They have no sense of aesthetics. They try to ape german romanticism and kafka but they can't do it. They're too dim wot innit. The english genius is better spent elsewhere
>super dangerous wanted rebel is just some plumber who wants to fix people's shit for a fair price without worrying about bosses or unions or the whole rigamarole of getting permits for everything
painfully accurate tbh
I have this theory that the reason why shit keeps exploding isn't because of terrorists, but because everything is poorly maintained by the inept bureaucracy.
meh, it's as subtle as a firebomb thrown into a kindergarten. not bad but really on the nose and I don't think the message aged all that well.
again, I don't really hate it but Munchausen and 12 Monkey completely obliterate it, the former as darkish fantasy and the latter as dystomian mindfrick
Utterly kino. Also the more I think about it the harder it is to label >technically a sci-fi setting but the tech is all vintage and the movie is even explicitly stated to take place in the 20th century >romance but the woman hates him and the romance plot is almost entirely in his head >random dark fantasy moments
I guess technically a political black comedy? Sci-fi psychological thriller? Surreal kafkaesque fantasy?
Yes.
Extremely
A masterpiece
Pure kino, but I’d argue Gillianm’s third best.

Time Bandits and 12 Monkeys probably. Still, Brazil is awesome as hell though.

12 monkeys is just an extended remake of la jetee.
you should watch both. but maybe watch la jetee 2nd because you won't enjoy 12 monkeys as much if you watch it first
La jeete isn’t even a film it’s a powerpoint presentation
yes
It's the GOAT dystopian movie
Perfect blend of comedy and drama
One of the best endings ever
Yes, and it's the only good Terry Gilliam film.
It depends on what kind of ending you're looking for if its a happy ending then you at least dont have to leave the country..
yes

Terry Gilliam isn't English.

>What if 1984 but wacky and with swearing!!? XD
I have this theory that the reason why shit keeps exploding isn't because of terrorists, but because everything is poorly maintained by the inept bureaucracy.
yeah we never actually see any terrorists
Well, it’s his first day.
muh heccin bureaucracy ohh the dystopia! what a great piece of paranoid fiction, if only everyone was enlightened as me!
Gay ass movie. Grow up
You grow up, fascist prick. Your fantasy will never become a reality.
>if you don't agree with me you're a fascist
Orwellian moment
Only fascists believe bureaucracies are beneficial
…what? Way to completely miss the point of my post, Einstein
