No its hoarding. You're holding onto garbage with an imagined value that keeps you from putting it in the trash
'Collecting' is likely born from some sort of trauma but it's not investigated because its 'normie behavior'

I dont get it because i dont have that desire to hoard useless garbage

        >I dont get it because i dont have that desire to hoard useless garbage

What you mean is you don't have the desire to not be wasteful. That you don't have the desire to clean because you are lazy. You don't have the desire to sort and take care of your things. That it is easier for you to clean with a garbage sack and just rebuy things when you need them. That's what you really mean.

You also might have enough autism that 3 magazines on a coffee table overloads your senses causing you to sperg out.

You minimalist are worse than hoarders. You can not hide your mental illness. You just wild the hell out at something simple like 10 books on a bookshelf. You can't grasp how bonkers nuts you sound asking shit like "why would anyone want to own anything ever? Why even keep a book? Why have more than a single bowl you clean over and over again. And you always respond to criticism with exaggerations. 50 comics is always an overflowing hoard. 3 figures is always an obsession.

I don't even know why I waste time talking to you. You will never see why your crazy. You're just going to keep buying new waffle makers and putting them in the garbage when it's existence on the counter tingles your tism

If you want to be cynical about it. In its most extreme cases some people will drive themselves crazy collecting every issue or toy or whatever to complete a set. The best way to collect is to collect things that really mean something to you. Every few years go through your collection and see if it still holds happy memories to you or not. Keep your own serenity in mind and don’t let your collection control you and you’ll be fine,

These games originally run at 360p with 24 fps. You can emulate these games in 4K with unlocked frame-rate.

What's the point of owning the cartridges, especially since the battery inside will eventually leak and ruin the motherboard. CD at the very least will last forever.

"Hoarding" is a highly overstated 'disorder' made to medicalize those who collect and own and plan for the future in order to shame or correct them into owning nothing, very few people described as hoarders actually have disordered tendencies that harm them or others, but those who do not get lumped in with the few extreme cases in order to facilitate the idea that desiring to own things you love and keep them is a mental illness in need of fixing

But you keep responding to things in rather extreme ways making you look just as fruity as the hoarders.

The key is moderation. The key is cleaning. The key is spring cleaning and donating.

You are also an butthole, expecting the elderly to donate their cups, bowls, furniture etc and live in an empty home just to remove some work for their kids when they die. If you want your grand parents to live in an empty house to save you some work, you are a narcissist. Let them keep their coffee pot and drink their coffee and love their little old life, and when they die get off your lazy ass and settle their estate. Yes, put down the games, and porn, and new shows on Netflix and get off your ass and deal with the process of having a family.

                >All I'm expecting out of people, is to get stuff that they'll use and get rid of stuff they don't use.

There is a lot more nuance to this than you realize. Time is a big factor.

Your outlook is equally nuts when taken to an extreme. Like literally get rid of everything you're not using today? Got 4 cups throw 3 away? Not used your hammer recently, throw it away? Haven't used that 3rd set of sheets this month, throw it away? Don't use the back seat floor mats, throw them away?

Like how far do you go with it? How long in your mind can things go unused before it is trash time?

And yeah, the other extreme where you have 150 used McDonald's cups because God knows why is just as bad. Everyone here knows it is bad. Having 100 star wars paperbacks in your floor is also bad. But one extreme is not the cure for the other. For most people one is just a trauma response to the other.

Granny having 50 records and a bookshelf isn't hurting you. Sack up and deal with it when she dies. If she has a room with 300 boxes of unused cake mix that it another story

Ever go to one of those estate sale stores? It's just shelves full of everything you see at your grandma's place. You can figure out what decade this person bought all their tableware and furniture in by it. Lots of 70s era brown, gold, and lime green macrome crap. Sometimes you can find some old stuff, but usually it's 40s years before current year on average.

But really, what are people supposed to do with decades old, out of date, and often poorly kept up with household junk? When they already have their own slightly more modern household junk?

      pretty much.

Think about what shows also played alongside hoarders. Stuff like pawn stars, how flippers, American pickers. With lots of ads for new products.

Companies want to buy a ton of shit, take it home, throw it away and buy a ton more shit. If you fill your house you don't have space for more shit.

Even better, get you so raddled with ownership guilt that you forgo the act of owning anything and just rent services. Pay for streaming services. Save up and spend all your money on vacations. Don't buy things you enjoy and keep them in your house. Throw them away and then spend $6000 on a family vacation to disney world.

Yup, ever seen a minimalist or one of those consumers who buy everything new? They actually owned more things than 'hoarders', and many of them even owned more things than actual genuine hoarders ever did, over the course of their life. They just think it's better if they throw out that shit constantly and buy new. They love "decluttering" as a charade to pretend like they're not hoarding, and they buy more. Ever seen one of those decluttering processes, either irl or on video? They own tons of stuff they bought and used once or twice, or never, can't wait for it go to bad or old so they can throw it out, and then buy new. But that's perceived as fine, respectable even. It's just hoarding but without the fear of throwing out, only the buying, keeping and constant need for new things tendencies, which I'd argue is way worse.

Yep. Have a friend like that. Waste so much money to avoid hoarding. She will use throw away tin baking dishes just to avoid owning and cleaning a casserole dish. So she throws away 4 to 7 of them a week. Also gets her kids a LOT of prepackaged food just to avoid washing dishes. And I'm not talking pop tarts that have to come prepackaged. I'm talking mini donuts and applesauce. She will give them a pack of 3 mini donuts and a gosauce pack of applesauce every morning. Like, just buy a jug of sugar and a sack of mini donuts. The freezer is also packed with freezer meals that produce a lot of trash just to avoid owning and washing plates.

Anti hoarding, declutter types create so much trash, it's crazy. Like buy the big box and wash a plate. It's easy, just wash the plate. You don't need 30 individually wrapped Oreos. Just get the family pack and wipe the fricking crumbs up

Best comparison is me and my wife, I collect a few different things (Godzilla, Ghost Rider, Boris Karloff Frankenstein stuff, but I’m very selective about what I buy I don’t just go out and grab every last piece of merch I can find and I bought display cases to keep that stuff in, I can sit in the den and frick around on PlayStation or watch a movie then turn and look at my collections and think to my self “I got some cool shit”.
But my wife grew up in a hoarding situation to the point that when her mom passed they did a cleanup and hauled eight or nine of dumpsters worth of junk out of the house and I’m not talking the normal dumpsters you see outside a business or school I’m talking the big motherfrickers that they load onto a flatbed that they use on construction sites, and in the end my father-in-law still had to have the house demolished because between the junk and the animal shit it was unsalvagable, unfortunately my wife picked up the habit where her mom left off, luckily I’ve managed to keep it contained to the guest room but lately it’s been spreading to other rooms so her dad and sisters plan to help intervene before it gets worse and hopefully clean some of that shit out

Well that and they tried claiming it was a dangerous addiction back in the early 70s. People didn't care and moved on to claiming video games were a dangerous addiction instead in the early-mid 80s. These scary warnings only work if you can get the soccer moms involved ans take up the fight themselves in their own time with their own money. to give a serious answer, I've seen legitimate cases of hoarding and i believe there are crucial differences vs just collecting a lot of things like comics. hoarders will accumulate redundant shit with no value or utility that's unrelated and ends up never used. like buying 15 toasters and leaving them all in their boxes never to be opened or used. there's a big difference between that and collecting many issues of a comic which are not identical, have an inherent collector's appeal and even a case to be made as an investment. the hoarder will never be able to reconcile their owning 15 boxed toasters in a logical way but will nonetheless insist saying "what if i neeeeeed them one day" whereas it's easy to imagine rationalizing a comic collection.

that said you can obviously still be fricking cringe with collecting i.e. anyone who owns more than one funko pop, or frick even one is too many

collecting and hoarding are different but collecting can be it's own mental illness. I've seen this with old book readers on youtube and they have made some rules of thumb the most basic one being if you have to stack books to a point where if they toppled over they would crush you then you have too many books

Right now I'm at a respectable 2 bookshelves of collected DVDs, CDs, and VHS tapes, most bought when I was in middle school, an then a decent amount just given to me, along with some mail packages I keep stuff I've collected inside of when bought online (signed posters, some figures, comics. I feel it helps keep things set aside in my closet.)
I do occasionally have the urge to hold onto things I don't actually need. When I go shopping with my friend I've held onto receipts not out of "if something needs to be returned" but because of that sentimentality. That nice feeling where I can look back and see what I bought together in the past. Like a spark of positivity/nostalgia. I don't do it for any other shopping. Technically just taking a picture after a purchase for personal keeping would do about the same. I also have a habit of trying to record a lot of stuff around me as keepsakes, which is kinda like digital hoarding. I have a lot of saved videos that are just me having set my phone on my table and recording a live broadcast of something I like (even if I had the ability to record broadcasts directly I'd probably still do this method because it shows a little of the surroundings of my room or such at the time which is better for memory.) At the very least it's also encouraged me to record more about stuff that actually matters like visiting places.

This is generally how hoarding becomes an issue. Attributing value or over-sentamentality to things you don't need. As long as my issue is just recording a lot of videos and constantly having to make room for them on external hard drives I think I'm fine. There's less and less stuff being broadcast I care about anyway.

Collecting in the current year is just a buying exercise. It was a hobby at one point, when you had to scour estate sales, flea markets, and garage sales to find anything of value, when the average normie couldn't look up the value of anything on his phone instantly, when you couldn't just find all of the known Spiderman comics in existence and just order one for whatever the price point is, sure back then collecting was a hobby. Now? No, I don't think it is, you can't build a collection of rare books through time and effort like you could once upon a time, the only way to do it now is to buy buy buy.

Collection: organized, displayed, not a hygiene or safety hazard, financially sustainable. Likely to create a sense of pride for the collector.

Hoard: Not those things. A source of shame for the hoarder.
