the main draw of the final destination movies is not people being tortured, it's people getting killed in extremely unlikely accidents. how do you equate it with the others you mentioned?
This. Most of the kills are the opposite of torture porn, it's usually someone slipping on a banana peel followed by 5 or 6 unlikely rube goldberg machine activations where slipping on a banana peel ends with them being spontaneously exploded or getting their head chopped off by a flying piano or what the frick ever. usually just getting smashed in one hit.
Almost no gore as well, at least the first one and even the ones after that were never really all that heavy on gore.
No, because the money shot (the death) is brief. The focus in Final Destination is on the anticipation, when is it going to happen? How is it going to happen? It's simple, straight up supernatural horror, based on an X-Files episode. Not torture porn
I guess the kills in Final Destination tend to be a lot quicker, like slashers, so the characters rarely get a chance to suffer from the physical trauma. Although scenes like 3's tanning bed or even the nail gun kill are undeniably "torture porn".
What I'm more intrigued by is people seem to love trying to flaunt their horror movie trivia "knowledge" around by saying Saw is a rip-off of Cube (when movies like Dr Phibes and The Man They Could Not Hang predate Cube by like, 40 years, so Cube is just a rip-off of those movies), but no one ever seems to draw the connection between The Omen series and Final Destination. The draw of both series is the same gimmick of people dying in elaborate freak accidents.
"Supernatural horror" you can try to dance around what the actual Final Destination appeal is like you could call Saw "serial killer horror", but Final Destination is still just gore porn. Even Friday the 13th has more attempt at narratives and characters than Final Destination. Final Destination has absolutely NOTHING but the kills, no characters, no mystery, no narratives, just people dying. Watching the FD kills on Youtube is a superior experience to watching the movies since the full movies have nothing else to offer you. Friday the 13th has atmosphere, silly and sometimes lovable characters, a tangible villain to applaud and cheer for, Final Destination is literally "gore porn" in a way slasher movies aren't.
No one cares about the Final Destination characters, they're all flat as frick and no one ever survives so why give a shit about them anyway? The duo from 2 survive but die in the "extended lore" of 3. Final Destination has the formula of a slasher film but none of the charm or appeal. I love the Friday the 13th, Halloween and Elm Street movies and want their endless sequels to continue infinitely but this Final Destination series is insufferable.
I'm actually hopeful for FD6 though because the creator said it's actually going to have a unique approach, because the formula the previous five movies coasted by on aren't working.
The defining feature of Cube is how strangers are stuck in a room (series of rooms) and how there's not a real antagonist running around with a knife stabbing them or using ghost demon powers or anything, the danger is in the room(s) itself.
Same with Saw. Your boomer movies are just slasher films basically.
But that makes Saw, Cube and Dr Phibes a rip-off of The Man They Could Not Hang. It's typical when a 13 year old first discovers Cube they start going around screaming about how Saw "ripped off Cube", because they think they're suddenly an expert on the horror genre and think they've just discovered some obscure gem when the entire internet has been sucking Cube's dick for decades. Cube did not even lethal bobby traps nor was it the first movie to have a group of people trapped in a building filled with lethal bobby traps.
>Dr Phibes a rip-off of The Man They Could Not Hang.
Bro it's there in the frickin title, there's a man going around killing people in The Man They Could Not Hang. it's nothing like Cube where the rooms themselves are the danger.
Karloff leaves them to killed by the booby traps one by one. He only tries to kill one person directly with a rifle before his daughter foils his plan before it can continue further. A bunch of people were locked in a house filled with lethal booby traps. In Cube, a bunch of people are stuck in a maze filled with lethal booby traps. Hmm, even in the second half of Cube the traps stop existing and a Quentin becomes the threat, much like the second half of Man They Could Not Hang, Cube is an even bigger rip-off than I thought.

Who created the traps in Saw? A government agency or an old man with cancer?
The Cell is a really bad movie. It's like someone took 3 decent movies and mashed them up together and including some awful music video effects and bad late-90s CGI and thought they were on to something.
I have a vivid and probably everlasting memory of repeatedly jerking off to a FD3 dvd during tan beds scene.
I don't know about torture but porn for sure.
Reminder that Final Destination is just Omen but it's ambiguous Death instead of devil shit. Watch Omen 2 and tell me that it isn't just a bunch of accidental deaths placed into a sequence.
Because Saw goes for catharsis through torture. You're supposed to enjoy the torture of "evil" people. FD is just regular people trying to escape fate.
Because final destination is more of a teen franchise
but people die in brutal ways, similar to Saw
it's milquetoast compared to saw and hostel you moronic fricking slop consumer
mad
I don't think it really fits the genre.
Proto-tortute porn perhaps? You could the first Hellraiser into that genre too.
the main draw of the final destination movies is not people being tortured, it's people getting killed in extremely unlikely accidents. how do you equate it with the others you mentioned?
just like Saw, the deaths are the attraction. and they tend to be over the top just like Saw.
by your logic every slasher flick is torture porn
This. Only one movie had this
name?
hostel part two
maybe three
Looks weirdly hot.

Final Destination has plenty of characters and focus on those characters and their lives. Have you even fricking watched them?

I'm hoping FD6 goes meta or elevated horror at least.

It's more of a Rube Goldberg machine of death franchise.
Sounds vaguely antisemitic.

Peril, the genre is peril. Ht20
