She has a point but she could work with one of the bold, upcoming directors instead and draw attention to their projects. There's a lot of bold directors in genre movies (horror for instance).
Because this generation women are girlchildren, to find a mature woman we literally have to find a mature woman. Any females born after 1980 need not apply.
Sadly she is right. The balance between the cultural and creative aspects of movie making and the industrial commercial aspects of movie making is mostly broken on the mainstream circuits albeit i´d add that this is but a symptom or reflection of a society focused on shallow mercantilism.
In short society doesn´t want introspection, contemplation or meaningful deep observations of the human condition. They want to be entertained, they want easy repetitive pre masticated topics that won´t challenge them in any way and that they can understand (and above all be able to produce an opinion about), and they want all these generic products to come one after another.
There is clearly some amount of social engineering at work here too as without clear editorial lines there wouldn´t be this sheer amount of mindless repetition in topics and themes. Dumber people are a win for both companies and politicians after all.
That said even though companies have overtaken most circuits there are still auteurs working and making art on the independent and foreign circuits. Granted finding something actually good in those can be challenging but the point is that they still exist.
No. Its been this way for her entire career and shes only "doing something" about it now. If you think its only coincidence that shes at retirement age youre the exact moron this virtue signaling is for.
It's not all about "corporate profits". Even independent movies are complete shit. It's because writers are cowards who lack imagination and courage. That's why there isn't anything memorable or exceptional.
>That's why there isn't anything memorable or exceptional.
(cont) Seriously, what has been released recently that's an exceptional movie/TV show? That will be watched 50 years from now? 100?

American Horror Story season 2 is some of the best Television ever made and if you disagree you're dead wrong.

That show is gayer than engaging in actual gay sex.
