Is Gundam good?

So I just read about the history of Gundam and it's pretty brutal
>first gundam
>trash animation and gets cancelled
>5 years later a sequel gets made just because toys were selling from the first gundam
>it might be the only actually good gundam, but its sequel ZZ is widely regarded as trash
>cca and f91 are both shit because they adapt too much material in a 2 hour movie
>at this point tomino hates gundam so much he intentionally fricks up victory and then leaves
>g, wing, and x progressively decline in viewership, to the point x is cancelled
>08th ms team was ok, but then the director fricking died halfway through
>SEED manages to revive the genre with shitty teenage soap operas and prettyboys
>immediately kills all the momentum with a dogshit sequel
>most of the rest of the franchise after this just tries to recreate the halcyon days of the early UC shows, which is questionable whether they were even good to begin with
So is this whole franchise just fricked? Is there any good gundam shows?

I'm not reading your blog dumb twittergay.

You mad that I called out your favorite franchise for being a glorified toy commercial strung along by its kit sales and denounced even by its jaded creator?

Sounds like you watched some idiotic YouTube video on the subject matter. You should try reading some actual material on the subject matter instead:

    >at this point tomino hates gundam so much he intentionally fricks up victory and then leaves
More like "the demands of Sunrise's new owner, Bandai, during Victory's production left him physically traumatized"

    >Victory Gundam was marred by unreasonable demands from Bandai and other sponsors. By Victory, Bandai’s stranglehold on a show’s actual production process had reached unprecedented levels. For instance, they decided that the titular mobile suit must appear in the first episode, despite Tomino’s planned scenario; this resulted in the first episode being slightly at odds with the introductory narrative. It consists of a future event that’s then explained via flashbacks in the following episodes, all for the sake of Gunpla marketing and promotion. Tomino had dealt with Bandai for over a decade, and at this point in his career he could not take it anymore, so he found ways to retaliate
    >He was also disgusted by its “ugliness”; it’s a very chaotic anime with a high character death count, almost as if Tomino was airing out his frustrations on-screen. That said, despite being demoralized he put in effort into each episode, doing his best to pay attention to the themes and topics and including comedy-elements where appropriate.
    >Victory Gundam exposed Tomino’s mental state and resentment towards reality. It was the lowest point of his career and the straw that broke the camel’s back.
    >Tomino was fed up with everything—Sunrise, Bandai, Gundam in general. Shortly after it finished airing, he fell into depression and began to socially isolate himself, suffering from uncontrollable bouts of dizziness and ringing in the ears
    >He’d feel intense anxiety if he left the house. He couldn’t stand the vibration sounds of a car, especially when in the passenger seat. He couldn’t walk without a cane, and the asphalt roads made him feel sick. He’d often fall asleep on his office floor without realizing it. He even contemplated suicide.

    >at this point tomino hates gundam so much he intentionally fricks up victory and then leaves
People always overlook the fact that Tomino worked virtually non-stop as Chief Director in project after project for the good part of 17 years (1977 to 1994):
    >Zambot 3: October 8, 1977 – March 25, 1978
    >Daitarn 3: June 3, 1978 – March 31, 1979
    >MS Gundam: April 7, 1979 – January 26, 1980
    >Ideon: May 8, 1980 – January 30, 1981
    >MS Gundam movies: March 14, 1981 – March 13, 1982
    >Ideon movies: both July 10, 1982
    >Xabungle: February 6, 1982 - January 29, 1983
    >L-Gaim: February 4, 1984 – February 23, 1985
    >Dunbine: February 5, 1983 – January 21, 1984
    >Zeta: March 2, 1985 – February 22, 1986
    >ZZ: March 8, 1986 – January 31, 1987
    >CCA: March 12, 1988
    >F91: March 16, 1991
    >Victory: March 4, 1993 – March 25, 1994

And add to this list a sizeable number of novels and other books:
    >Dakara Boku Wa... (autobiography)
    >Gundam I-III
    >Zeta I-V
    >CCA: Beltorchika's Children I-III
    >CCA: Hi-Streamer I-III
    >Hathaway I-III
    >F91 I-II
    >Gaia Gear I-V
    >Victory I-V

Other than Garzey's Wing (a short, low budget OVA spinoff of Dunbine), he didn't return to the director's chair until Brain Powerd in 1998.

    >So I just read about the history of Gundam

So you haven't even seen it. Watch it and decide for yourself. The compilation movies are on Netflix; if you're interested, give the first one a shot and you'll quickly see if it's for you or not. The history of production problems, corporate wrangling, and public reception are fine if you're interested in that stuff, but the work stands or falls on its own.

I really like the original 0079, but I admit that a big part of my enjoyment is the models and the autistic lore that's built up around it over the decades. It is without a doubt a big toy commercial, but it's well done and quite a bit more nuanced than your typical toy commercial show.

I watched the first gundam through victory and also all the SEED ones.

The first one I liked even though the animation was trash. Zeta I thought was really good. ZZ the first half was trash but the second half was as good as zeta. CCA I thought was a rushed hack job. 0080 and 0083 were really well done. F91 was a rushed hack job. Victory was a slog and genuinely painful to watch until the ending. I really liked SEED and destiny because it was the first gundam I watched that had cute anime girls but the animation looked like shit. Stargazer I thought was boring.

I don’t know what to watch next because going chronologically after victory is fighter g which looks like more shounen garbage. Maybe 00?

Watch Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 (the TV series) then decide for yourself. Even if the animation budget was tight at times, the writing was really good.
