I've never watched one of these movies.
It's good, but a lot of the movies don't hold up for me anymore. I used to like the David Yates, but I recently rewatched 5 and 6 and they're actually really ugly to look at a lot of the time. 5 has really bad CGI and 6 has its colors so desaturated most of the time it looks like it's black and white. And of 4 course 4 is just total shit all around.
So the only good movies for me are both parts of 7 and number 3. I'm on the fence with the Chris Columbus films. They're charming and comfy, but they're also kind of boring and the kids don't know how to act in them yet either.
I would say Lord of the Rings is better, but you have The Hobbit to contend with as well, so I'm not really sure what I would call the best franchise.

David Yates destroyed the films. They looked terrible. Were awkward and ugly. Tone was all wrong. Also boring which the earlier ones never were
Yeah, it's weird as frick. Like I said, for whatever reason I remember really liking them when they came out, but rewatching them has made me realize how terrible they all are. I do really like the Deathly Hallows stuff, particularly Part 1, but Half-Blood Prince I used to put way higher on my list and now I think it's bottom of the barrel, purely because of how fricking ugly it is. When Harry and Dumbledore are in the cave getting the locket, everything is gray for some reason. Literally zero color because of how desaturated they make it. Like wtf were they thinking with that?
