yeah. They are just action movies with CGI.

MCU has oversaturated a certain formula though. So these adaptations aren't living up to the book-to-movie potential.

You know it's not as if I even necessarily mind CGI if it's done well, even though as I've gotten older I've definitely started tending towards preferring "real" movies with practical effects. But seeing how Marvel movies pump out multiple new ones each year and the CGI consistently looks horrendous, I begin to understand why it used to be the case that sequels would take years before they finally came out. Because they need that extra time in the oven if the movie is to have any hope of actually looking good. In the end though it's really the audience's fault for continuing to pay for this shit without question.

You morons think if superhero movies didn't exist we'd be getting 15 more kino movies per year instead of 15 capeshit movies? Get real. Kino happens and doesn't happen irrespective of the mass market garbage.

This. I dislike plastic capeshit as much as the next guy, but if that wasn't the current trends it would be some other cancerous barrage of uninspired garbage like bad romcoms and bad horror movies, probably more sequels too.

          >franchise film
i see the "franchise film" thing to be more like a television show - people watch one, they get invested in the story and characters and stay around to see where it goes
but most modern television shows (outside of sitcoms and police procedurals) have the good sense to wrap it up after a few seasons
you see with a show like the walking dead which was pulling i think 15 or 20 million viewers an episode hit critical mass at a certain point and people kept checking out afterwards until few were left - i don't think it's even necessarily a reflection of the quality of the later seasons, but rather people just got tired of staying invested in a neverending saga

seems like they gave capeshitters a clean cut with endgame and many took them up on it

      >Get real. Kino happens and doesn't happen irrespective of the mass market garbage.
this isnt really true. getting the type of kino we got through the 70s through 90s requires a certain production value, and if there wasnt a dominant genre like super hero movies then producers might be willing to throw some money around at odder, more risky projects.

Not entirely bc superhero movies dumb audiences down and don't educate them visually, they look kitschy and superficial besides their moronic, infantilized content.
Capeshit is at the same time a symptom rather than a cause: it shows meretricious/greedy/untalented types catering to uneducated masses.

PTA is a pussy. He has said before he does not ever say anything negative about films people he knows made. He feels it doesn't help. But in reality others like Tarantino will straight up tell you it sucks. He's a shitty overrated director who uses that Kubrick playbook and casts amazing actors to carry his material

Anderson has a policy of not criticizing other people's work in public. I think it goes back to when he attacked Fincher over Fight Club. John Krasinsky has a story about how he was talking shit about some movie and Anderson pulled him aside and asked him not to do that in front of people.

Movies and television are the old timer shit that's going to hang around but be absolute-zero quality because 'we'll watch it anyway' because we 'don't like that tiktok'.

    Sure, in a sense
On the one hand there's nothing especially wrong with Capeshit, it's not as though studios weren't periodically producing cheap action movies to tey and get seats filled before. It's less that Superhero movies ruined cinema as much as the executives in charge of movie production became more creativeky bankrupt, and decided that instead of making many brands of cheap movies to appeal to broad audiences, they'd discovered upon a magic formula where you make the same movie over and over again, because it makes a half-billion dollars everytime and appeals to every demographic. It's a symptom of a larger breakdown in the Hollywood machine, not the cause

Hollywood is literally fricking dying because cinemas revolved around spectacular superhero films and now that every franchise is dying down no one is going to the theaters anymore. He is completely wrong and it's shameful for a director of his caliber to not acknowledge the cancer that is franchise cinema

He’s right, but what he’ll never say is that what actually ruined cinema is the arthouse and indie scene. There has not been a legitimately good masterpiece to come out of an indie director in over 10 years, not since social media ubiquity. If there has it was made by the likes of PTA, a veteran aging director from a different era making a period piece, and not an up and coming director like it needs to be for cinema to survive. 99.9% of films made by these “artists” are garbage derivative hacky and just awful. Theres nothing truly new, nothing truly modern, nothing that cuts through culture with precision and beauty, nothing that tells the truth, nothing truly courageous, no cinema. And all these awful directors are encouraged to suck each others balls and support each other because the industry is “so difficult” and yadayada. Awful. I blame him for the death of cinema and he’s probably the best director working today.

      Correct

nobody fricking watches anything that isn't a franchise film genius, that's the problem. scorsese is totally right and PTA is being stupid

Have you considered the fact that nobody watches those other films because they are trash too?

        Anonymous

but they aren't, original films made by real artists are way better and PTA is one of them, they just don't have mass appeal. the thing is that even your standard hollywood drama doesn't make money. this isn't the 90s where people would go to watch legal dramas and erotic thrillers. those don't exist anymore
