Yeah that guy has some sort of tism or something else. Or he really is just a scumbag. lol that video is weird. Guy walks in and seems like the bad guy for threatening violence but then he mentions what the joke was and that the guy has been consistently doing it. The moron's joke seems like it can be wiggled out of and just use his moronation to show that he meant it literally with no relation to the daughter. Kind of like Slott feigning ignorance and pointing to muh sales. Then he starts to give in at the end when the manager comes by and he feels the pressure. I have no idea who actually was in the wrong but I'm unsure. Though yeah just imagine the autistic guy as Marvel writers like Slott or someone like Lowe feigning ignorance to their continued misdeeds while ignoring customers like the dad who are perhaps rightfully angry. The manager at the end was Disney or someone because she probably did nothing and let the guy off scott free, lol.

Guy's giving us Gardevoir chads a bad name just like Marvel is giving Spider-Man a bad name.

The line's been crossed by worse shit that is more tasteless by the likes of Millar, Loeb, and Ennis. But this is in a book that is much more popular and in a time of hypersensitivity. So more people will focus on this potentially. I don't get bent out of shape over it since it's a comic and also this company has proven it can keep going lower than previously thought possible and I've grown apathetic. I can't predict if this will matter in the end, but it should since it basically highlights ineptitude on several facets of Marvel. But yeah I'm willing to be a moralgay and say that this is tasteless. I hope Slott can put his writing down and prove he is even worse than Wells. Slott sometimes can write something with some level of competency but other times he just shits on the page and turns it in for Marvel to publish.

You ever see Gilbert Gottfried talk about people saying too soon? He criticizes people who can't take a joke about 9/11 right about a month after it happened. Yet those same people are fine with jokes about the Titanic. Just because it happened 100 years ago, it's fine to make fun of them? That road goes both ways. The way in which the joke is told, where it is told, and who it is told to matters. Not when.

The only people these writers care about is themselves. Not kids with leukemia, not the fans, and definitely not Spider-Man. They’ll toss them all aside just to feel clever for a moment. It’s pretty evil actually.

I feel like the people who are defending the shitty joke are just taking it at face value as some edgy joke. They probably haven't read the issue it's referring to and don't really care about the implications of Peter making a joke about a dead kid that idolized him.

The more I hear about Marvel and DC now, and the comics industry as a whole, the more I believe the train of thought your post infers. Kids probably don't even give a frick about this current run. The majority of kids are getting their comics fix from fricking fortnite. If not that, then TV shows. Comics these days like the current ASM run aren't written for anyone but the writer's ego.

Yes, over and over again, until they either stop being so weak and pathetic, or until they die. Then you have more kids, and rinse and repeat until you produce a kid that's strong enough to survive. That's the goal of evolution: to create something strong enough to kill everything else. If this had been done in a vacuum or in a good run, then people wouldn't mind as much. It's the fact that every opportunity, the run has tried to "trigger" fans. From Paul, to Peter shoving his head up Norman's ass, Kamala dying etc.

Also... it's not a good joke. It's just the writer jabbing you in the ribs and going "Remember this?!" It's like when Tom King did an All-Star Superman reference. It's cheap and lazy, designed to get people talking which were doing now.

It’s a lame joke at worst, but Marvel has spent the last decade or so trying to cultivate the people who would be furious about this as their fans. Given how they’re writing MJ and Felicia, I’m all for Wells and Lowe getting pilloried as misogynists and abusers.

Yeah it’s fricked up cause everybody forgot about Disney suing a dad for having Spider-Man stuff placed at his kids funeral.

This is such a dumb fricking thing to complain about

Also there was a story in the 2000s similar to The Kid Who Collects expect the kid was black and had a dysfunctional family. But then again when Spider-Man took off his mask he was black so it might have been all a fantasy.

These things are all written by shitty ai, that AI being "human" beings only fed training data from quippy movies and cape comics with zero life experience to fill in the gaps. A copy of a copy, a painting made by someone who has only seen portraits and never the real world. And they've not even seen ALL the portraits, just the most mainstream surface level works. How could you ever expect worth from people like that? Media overexposure is poisonous to the creative mind.

Peter making poor taste jokes is entirely in-character. It's like you casuals only know Spider-man from the Raimi movies.

      >BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS 50 YEAR OLD ONE-SHOT!?!?
      boo fricking hoo

everybody whining about how offensive spidey cracking a joke like this needs to grow a fricking backbone

Yeah I like that part of Spider-Man where Carnage eats that town and Peter says, "Boy he sure is hungry!"
Or that other time when Green Goblin killed Gwen and he said, "Gee gobby how come every time you show up everyone gets whiplash?"
My favorite one was when Skip returned and Peter says, "Boy Skip, I already know how it feels to get fricked....by Marvel!"
Really makes me feel aware of everyone else's tropes and storylines and makes me feel above them for no reason. Gives the writer free reign to do whatever he wants which boils down to just ripping off another storyline while making tacky lines.

He’s revealing his identity to a colleague, not quipping while scores of people are dying. It’s completely in-character for Peter to joke in a moment like that.

The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man came out in 1984. b***hing about a wisecrack referencing a 40-year-old oner is fuvkibg petty, autistic, clickbait outrage.

Nah man. It's OOC for Peter because in the chronology of the story it only happened a decade the most, or a couple years ago at the least. Marvel's timescale is moronic but whatever that is what they went with. Point is, to have investment in the stories I need to believe Peter's character is the same and consistent. He needs to act how he would if the world was real to him. In this instance, I'm supposed to believe Peter who had so much death in his life trivializes it in such a half ass way? Sure he has joked about death before but not at the expense of those he cared about. I don't care if it's a joke, if you tell it in a moronic way then it's not funny and it can lead to shit like this apathetic drivel Wells is writing. If Marvel still wants me to care about the character they should respect what has gotten him this far. Also I don't think you understand the word implication behind Peter's words. If he is willing to joke about sick kids like that then that's equivalent to me going to a guy to show him a trick and then say, "yeah buddy you're special because I only do this for kids who are dying in painful ways. You're lucky." Y'see how I'm basically saying how he's lucky because he is seeing my trick and not because he's not dying from illness? I'm essentially making that shit all about myself. So yeah if you can't see that, you're moronic, underage, or both.

            >I can only stay invested in stories about this sixty year old character with ~1500+ issues and three dozen movies and cartoons if I can believe all of these stories occur within the same continuity.
Jesus Christ, grow the frick up.

              >all of these
Nowhere in that guy's post I see him saying he's demanding the cartoons and the movies be in the same continuity though. Sounds like a bit of an odd leap to make.

I'm really glad people are going out of their way to defend Peter joking about a kid who died to his friend. Remember when Edward was chilling with his friends and remembered when he found Nina fused with her pet and said "That was the start of our dog days huh?"

Well Peter already argued in favor of killing other people even ones of his family in another very beloved piece of media. If you hate him joking about a dying kid with leukemia but love the other thing you are a moron.

yeah it's really bizarre seeing people in here openly defending this like it's remotely in character. Hell, you had some people above saying it IS in character which is just baffling. I don't know what's wrong with this place anymore

        Hahaha! Classic Spider-Man! So funny!
        >2023

He's not joking specifically at the expense of a specific kid who died to his friend. He doesn't say "I wouldn't normally do this unless you were a sad child fan with terminal leukemia". He's joking that he doesn't share his secret identity with just anyone. Everyone here is just reading too fricking much into it and trying to assert that it's some secret evil sleight to a 40-year-old issue instead of just a mediocre joke that also happens to be a vague reference.

I'm not trying to be mean but you know it's going to be bad. You know the people working on it are 60 year old suit's who refuse to have Spiderman develop anything and hack writers who are desperate/stupid enough to put up with said suits and do whatever they tell them in the dumbest ways possible.

So why do you guys still linger?
