What are you trying to say here, you utter mongoloid? The movie didn't bomb. No amount of hoop jumping is going to change that.

That grossing 23 million opening weekend isn’t “got its budget back opening weekend.”

Not sure why this so difficult for you.

The entire argument is the movie not bombing, dickwad. The movie making it's budget back opening weekend is a good indicative of that being the case, i don't know why 20 replies later you're still walking in circles around this fact, you stupid motherfricker.

“Not bombing” isn’t the same as “made its budget back opening weekend.”

So? Two people could watch a horror movie and it could make back its budget.

Film is becoming a dead artform, like theater

Sure there are still new films coming out every year, there are new plays as well, new operas too. But increasingly it's not an active art form that the masses actively engage with. It's an event, something for the occasional visit like theater. Ancient theater throughout history from the Greeks to Shakespeare wasn't what it is today. It was a mundane event for all kinds of audiences, even the dirt poor would attend. Today is it's like Latin a dead language kept alive to some degree purely out of reverence for what it once was.

It's not even visiting the theater, nowadays the average kid just plain doesn't watch movies compared to thirty years ago. Movies are too long and they'd rather watch a video online.

Have to travel an hour to some remote movie plex at an industrial estate. You bet your ass I only do that once a year.

Let's face it most movies can be experienced at home just fine.

Speaking of Rise, I liked it, it's surprisingly solid by trashy Evil Dead standards. But as a huge fan of franchise I feel like something is missing, and I can't tell what exactly. Maybe Cinemaphile could help me.

+50% of the list is recycling old movies and cape-shit.
by comparison here is a box-office from 2000, a couple of singles, but for the most part original stand alone movies.

Here is another one from 2010, it already went down hill really fricking fast, compare that to 2000, most of it is sequels or spin-offs from previous movies. You begin seeing cape-shit making it's rounds.
