I watched the first episode and it was a bit... iffy. I just want to know if it's going to be the norm of the series or if they had some rough start with the first few episodes

Honestly it kinda suffers from a mild case of "so like is the main character ever going to be relevant in a fight?" Because a sizable way through it and it felt like the MC might as well not fricking exist. He didn't get an actual combat capable guy worth fricking anything until Lindwurm and then he never fricking used the thing and he never got good at fighting or picked up an amulet or shit that would make him good at fighting it was deeply fricking frustrating. Like watching a series about start of series Ron Stoppable except without the jokes and he never improves.
The girls were smoking hot though. That is true.

I enjoyed shows like Chaotic, W.I.T.C.H, Di-gata defenders and Storm Hawks. If you were to compare them to those shows, would you still say Huntik is a total mess or on par?
As far as I got into Huntik, more of a mess than W.I.T.C.H. season one and far more than season two. About on par with Storm Hawks, but the worldbuilding is weaker and the characters aren't quite as charming. It has a very different vibe than Chaotic, I feel. Huntik definitely tries hard to be "cool". I did not watch Di-gata, so no opinion here.

The intro and the designs really hyped me up for The Last Airbender levels of good and instead what I get is the creator of Winx.

GOd god god godddamn in a different universe Huntik is this really amazing 9/10 show like The Last Airbender or Kulipari.
To be fair Huntik is better than Winx as a whole. Winx only had three good seasons out of ten or more. Huntik had two good seasons, even if the second wasn't as good as the first.
I've watched a few episodes and found it kind of enjoyable in a -turn your brain off and watch cool things happen- way. The setting was a total mess, clearly shaped by potential toys. The characters were very flat, but sometimes plot went go crazy.
The intro is a total banger and everyone is hot, yeah. That's about it really. If that's enough for you, you can try it out.
