Is it actually funny, or do people just like to share those handful of meta clips and nobody here has actually watched the whole series?

It's moderately funny but the optimal way to view it IS compilation clips of funny moments. The show isn't good or consistent enough to make whole episodes worth recommending
It's just the clips
I think it's decently enjoyable overall, but the action is pretty weak so all it really has going for it is comedy and dialog. Depending on your tastes you might like the show's dialogue and dynamics or you might not really like them, it isn't really an objective thing and it's down to your personal tastes in comedy writing.
I don't like the meta humor, it's funny at times but tiresome. The humor for me comes from watching Sonic characters act unhinged.
>I don't like the meta humor, it's funny at times but tiresome.
Same. It's a nice treat, but it becomes exhausting and takes me out of the show if it's too frequent.
It's ok.
I liked but I can understand why some people don't.
Nah, it's usually quite enjoyable imo
It's a very comfy and fun show. Action sucks though.
It's hilarious most of the time, but it's weighed down by the obligatory fight scenes that they rush through.
If you liked the pontaff game cutscenes you'll love Boom because it's just those as a tv show. The only reason it sort of works better is because instead of ruining established characters it's set in its own universe.
I watched the whole thing, though generally skip half the earlier episodes on rewatches.
Great, but flawed show.
Anybody else notice how Sticks had virtually nothing to do or say in the latter half of the show?
Did the writers run out of ideas for nonsequitors?
Sticks is extremely one note and is only really good for comic relief, something that isn't even lacking between the other four and Eggman.
I don't like her. The unabomber shit, which was her sole personality, had no place in the main cast dynamic so she felt like dead weight.
Probably to make room for more Knuckles. It would've been nice if they fleshed her out and gave her more to work with. The episode where she renamed the village into Hedgehog Village was her best episode and really sold her friendship with Amy. Otherwise her ties to the others didn't feel like more than being acquaintances. She's like that friend that shows up to hang out but nobody goes out of their way to spend time with her.
she does?
On average every episode probably has at least a couple good jokes. When it tries to be an actual show though...eh
Rougly 45% are funny. Another 30% is obnoxious characters, who are just irritating. Rest is action scenes. Eggman is mostly funny, despite being depicted as slightly too much loser to be actually good. Knuckles is, as some anon has written once, "is on his own level" despite not being a Knuckles at all. Perfect character for this comedy show, worst Knuckles possible. Sticks is good. Sonic is more obnoxious than good. Amy manages to be both good and irritating at the same time. Tails gets trolled. Orbot/Cubot are pretty good. Side characters are mostly obnoxious save for, maybe, mayor and rich guy, maybe also wolf. Man, who had invented zen frog, are to be fired. From cannon. And a cannonball is to be put in the cannon before this man.
>Man, who had invented zen frog, are to be fired.
That same man is currently the guy in charge of the Sonic the Hedgehog IDW comic. :^)
You're a bit behind the times. Ian is writing for the official games now, but he's not working on the IDW comic anymore. The new head writer for the IDW comic is Evan Stanley, author of the "Ghosts of the Future" fancomic and hater-of-heterosexuality.
The sad part is that not much has changed for the comic so it's hardly noticeable
Tangle and Whisper are more in-focus than ever.
Which I thought made sense for Ian since they're his OCs and those were supposed to help give the comic depth that the games characters couldn't provide.
>those were supposed to help give the comic depth that the games characters couldn't provide.
and that's how we got the crying lesbian squad overtaking the entire comic to be crying lesbians.
Also a "great" writer.
Ah yes, the episode where Knuckles nearly kills a baby.
You might have laughed but she wrote it as a dark and serious moment that shows off the franchise's edgy side just like in IDW when a character does something and Whisper cries about it because Sonic has always inherently been furry DBZ with dark and serious edgy melodrama ever since the first game and Satam.
ALRIGHT
He might as well be an original character, but I really like the meathead archetypes so I dig Boom's Knuckles.
>shitty writer sucks enough corporate wiener to get promoted
I'd make a joke about how Sonic fans will eat any low quality slop they're fed, but that's honestly not even exclusive to Sonicgays in this day and age.
Back in the shartchie days the same people b***hing about him now were begging to have him write for the games
I can't blame them. After having to deal with over a hundred issues of Penders fanfiction, Ian's run was a breath of fresh air.
But when IDW started, everyone should have wisened up by then.
Honestly I still have a hard time believing the comic ever even lasted as long as it did. For a video game cancelled cartoon hybrid tie in book there's no reason it should have lasted more than a year or two. Tops. Seriously. How many actual comic book franchises can you name that would have killed for a run that lasted twice that long.
>twice
Half. I meant half. It's late and I've been on long hours.
Why was Yardley so much better back then
You can blame them actually, just because their comics got slightly less terrible doesn't mean its writer deserves to be on the games
>this could describe any Sonic cartoon
Which is a major problem because Sonic X was unmistakably Sonic all the way through, but the western cartoons always try to make a completely unrelated stpry and then shove Sonic characters into it which leads to massively divided fanbases with one that wanted to like the cartoons but can't because they're barely Sonic at all and the other that demands the games be more like their offbrand knockoff Sonic cartoons
New generation, that is supposed to replace older less distalented people to reduce costs and promote new "taste of the month" propaganda, that older people would outright refuse to create, Satan. Corporate rules - everybody and everything should be replacable.
I mostly like the villagers. They're usually in and out fast to deliver a joke and then it's off with some of them almost have a Simpsons style wit. Like not classic Simpsons but like that time right before it became Zombie simpsons so it was still funny but not the A-material. Walrus lady is funny. I don't get care. That MY BABY shtick kills me every time.
I swear the Mayor looks like Chuck E. Cheese.
Distant family. Thrice removed. He could have followed in the family business but he wanted to work with kids, which was fine.... until the incident where any allegations have not been proven with solid evidence.
>le...le pretending a dark thing happen!
Why can't you just respond like a human being instead of this 2010s tumblrspeak
Anon that is literally how he acts in the show.
It's carried by its writing, which is mostly humor-focused. If its sense of humor isn't your type, then you're not going to like it because the show was under sabotage since day one with an incredibly low budget (meaning tons of reused assets, locations, and characters, as well as less than stellar action scenes). Season 2 showed the studio really wanted to get more ambitious with the show, but SEGA mandates (they had to fight SEGA just to use Vector at all, for example) + budget constraints really limited them, but I, personally, enjoyed what they managed to do with the show.
>Le funny joke
>Le hurf a durf
Do you think a bunch of people on staff learned who Chris Chan was for the first time after working on this episode?
I swear the thumbnail makes the painting look like a pregnancy picture.
honestly no way it wasn't intentional
It had plenty of entertaining comedy outside of meta moments, both meta in the sense of commenting on Sonic and just commenting on it being a cartoon in general. Some of the best, most viral jokes tended to be those, yes, but I recall marathoning it without much trouble and frequently laughing at just like, the random episodic comedy that you'd find in any similarly toned show that couldn't also fall back on making jokes about the franchise.
It's not stupendous, groundbreaking entertainment, but that's a very high bar. If you want to watch a funny cartoon, I recommend it.
Probably one of the most attractive Sticks pics
The entire series is like those clips.
It's a fun show to have in the background because most of the enjoyment is just hearing the characters banter and Knuckles saying stupid shit.
It's Sonic. If you're autistic you'll love it, if you're not you won't.
>It's Sonic
In like, name only. It's like saying Looney Tunes and The Looney Tunes Show are the same thing.
>Sonic in name only
this could describe any Sonic cartoon, the only thing that keeps them distinctively Sonic is the more or less consistent dynamic of the main characters
Yes
It's gumball but good
Really wish this show was green lit for a season 3. :^(
