Is it any good? I'm going through all the great 2000s shows. Finished Breaking Bad, the Sopranos, now this. What am I in for?

it's shit i didn;t like it
original woke garbage
It's a soap opera for men.
Enjoy lots of smoking, drinking, sex and one-liners. Like most shows, it gets a little moronic by the end. Roger will be your favorite. Cheers
have a nice day you evil scum
have a nice day you evil israelite.
Episodic schlock. It's supposed to be one of the finest shows to ever air, but every episode is self-contained and there's no real season-long or show-long storyline outside of some meme plotlines.
>Muh Draper's identity
abandoned after S1 basically.
Also, the ending is absolutely fricking moronic. Literally ends on product placement.
>It's supposed to be one of the finest shows to ever air, but every episode is self-contained and there's no real season-long or show-long storyline outside of some meme plotlines
Kino. For me this show was like a refined version of the sopranos with the plebbier elements like the mob/villain of the season plotlines reduces down.
>It's supposed to be one of the finest shows to ever air, but every episode is self-contained and there's no real season-long or show-long storyline
Not even sure where to begin. This is just laughably wrong.
>Every episode is self contained
False.
>Ends on product placement
Filtered
So what this guy said but completely the opposite
>Breaking Bad,
You have terrible taste, you'll hate Mad Men. Don't even bother, it's not for you.
Have you seen the walking dead? That seems more your speed
Yes, Mid Meh with it's dropping of storylines left and right is so much better than breaking bad. Give it a break.
Breaking Bad is a 6/10 show. Mad Men is one of the best of all time.
Everyone needs to watch breaking bad at least once.
This doesn't make sense. The same morons who fawn over Breaking Bad fawn over Mad Men just the same
have a nice day
Nobody should ever watch that trash. It shouldn't exist
>Nobody should ever watch that trash. It shouldn't exist
Imagine getting mad over a tv show because it's popular.
It’s the best television show ever made. I’d give anything to be able to watch it again for the first time.
But it’s not for brainlets. The surface level plot is the tip of the iceberg. You will miss 80% of what’s really happening in the show if you don’t think a little about what each episode is trying to tell you, why the characters are doing what they’re doing, and what it all means. It wants you thinking and involved, not just passively watching.
yeah, it's a great show if you're a fan of american history, identify, and consciousness. not just in the sense of 'oh, the president got shot' but more in humans learning how to think for the first time, seeing the world as a stage, but also choosing to take their places on that same stage.
I read in a paris review weiner talking about his father's generation, how they didnt really share anything. It was pretty normal for you to be sitting on the porch with your dad, and he'd randomly tell you about the girl he knew when he was a kid who got her face sliced off with a hatchet. He'd keep drinking and never bring it up again, but that sort of overshare was pretty normal just because life was tough and alienating and wantonly cruel.
I also think the show does a great job of highlighting how common the not sharing was with men of that generation because so many of them were combat vets.
All the drinking in Mad Men seems cool and stylish until you realize that its predominately all the men who’ve seen war that are spending all day at work self-medicating with alcohol and never talking about what they went through. Don (Korea vet), Roger/Freddy Rumsen/Duck (WWII vets), they’re all far and away the heaviest drinkers in the show. I know it was the case with my grandpa who was a Korea vet.
Horrific deadly accidents were a monthly occurrence before say 1970. A kid would play with the wrong chemical and get horribly burned or fall through hole into a deep mine shaft or catch on fire or get mangled by machinery. Everyone would tell the story of the kid who had his head crushed by the elevator or burned alive playing with matches. On some level our parents fixation with safety is a result of the previous generation losing siblings and neighbors in this manner. It wasn't as tragic because there were 5 kids to a family, but it still left a mark on their mind
>It’s the best television show ever made
That's impossible because it is not a television show. It is an advertisement.
have a nice day you evil scum
have a nice day evil scum
>don't ever talk about this show again in the same breath as a show like breaking bad
They're the same trash
Pretty much a soap opera. S4 and 5 are excellent
It's really good and it filters over half this board on a regular basis. Pour yourself a drink and enjoy, anon. Cheers
Its a very good feel show, with the nice setting that is so pleasant to the eye, but it always find a little piece of drama in each episode to get you interested just enough.
It's one of the best shows I've ever seen, maybe the best one just for simplicity and the feel of it. Just dont romanticise alcohol or cigarettes because of it.
Mid Meh, don't ever talk about this show again in the same breath as a show like breaking bad, watch something else
Mad men (amc) had more emmy wins and nominations than breaking bad (amc) and the walking dead (amc) COMBINED!!!
that's strange, breaking bad has 2 million votes and TWD has 1 million votes on IMDB, while mad men only has 200k votes
Yes, you’ll like it.
Yes
It's fantastic. Made me want to instantly rewatch as soon as i finished it
Why did Mad Men have less Golf scenes than The Sopranos?
welp, the Mad Men autist is here, lol
I found his absence odd. He usually is never 30 posts late lol
>I'm going through all the great 2000s shows. Finished Breaking Bad, the Sopranos, now this.
I recommend checking out Boardwalk Empire as well, it's really good.
okay schizo, I'll bite-- why am I evil for enjoying Mad Men?
>There's no meaning in an advertisement
To the fricking main character there is, moron.
Not just to Don; they have meaning in general. All the ads in the show have some deeper meaning that is about tapping into psychological wants and needs. Pic related is a good one.
have a nice day you evil scum
Love yourself you beautiful baby
I remember watching that one and thinking “that’s what he got the award for?” since I thought some of the other ads were better.
A main character that never changes and sucks ass.
A great supporting cast.
>They forced a child lead to smoke a real cigarette
cite your sources or frick off moron
Have you never heard of theater cigarettes? Those are just props, they're not actually smoking in the show. They use talc to get the smoke cloud.
it's a chick show
Why are you using israelite as an insult? You shouldn't disrespect israeli people like that, it's wrong.
It's like a novel for television where you discover something new every time. Like I just notice that when Don first hooks up with Bobbie Barret, he says "i don't want to do this" but Bobbie grabs his crotch and goes "doesn't feel that way" and continues. Later on Don mirrors that by sticking his hand up her skirt during the apology dinner as a power play. The more I watch Mad Men, the more I see how scared Don is all the time.
this show it's for white people so i m enjoy it
It's better than both Sopranos and Breaking Bad, overall probably the best television series I've seen of all the acclaimed popular slop
?si=pDUpsg5T5Ue19Tby
it's woke slop
the original woke slop, even
Ok Cinemaphile, I will watch Mad Men. You did it.
It’s an incredible ride. You’re in for a treat, anon.
Thanks for the rec guys
Also make sure to watch Jon Hamm in Corner Office with Sarah Gadon
It's very israeli compared to other shows. It has that sort of subversive nature to it that lets you know instantly what ethnicity the showrunner is. Matthew Weiner has said as much openly. It's very good, but it lacks the sort of honesty that makes a show great like say the Sopranos.
It’s a show that you want to watch and like but somehow you just can’t manage.
