Japanese when laid out traditionally, like in manga, and not how you'd see it laid out on a computer, is read from top to bottom, right to left.
It's effectively tilted 90 degrees clockwise in comparison to western writing/reading style.
It's why word bubbles in manga tends to be taller than they're wide.
That said, if the text is laid out horizontally instead, it is usually read from left to right, top to bottom instead, just like in the west.
But most if not all manga that gets translated and sold in the US is right to left, and most people that read graphic novels only read manga which is made right to left. Why would it be cringe to emulate how most people are accustomed to reading (That is if you're trying to attract an audience that already reads manga outside of Japan or other right to left countries)?
>Why would it be cringe to emulate how most people are accustomed to reading
because you're not a fricking nip and your comic wasn't translated from japanese
Right to left is for Japan. Nobody else does it but it's a quirky thing for Japan alone so whatever. Anyone else that does it has to tell people to read it that way because they're going to instinctively read it left to right because it's not manga.
not good
both Japan and the West have their own way they read shit, a Westerner doing the Japanese style and a Japanese doing a Western style fricks yo the natural flow
What comic should take from manga is making smaller, breathable pages. If it looks to cluttered in tankobon dimensions(~5x7 inches), it's too fricking busy. Even "decompressed" pages look bad shrunk to this size.
You don't need 5 panels with backgrounds every panel and 3 characters talking
You can just focus a page on a character punching.
You can do a page of just midshots. It's ok.
And if you go simpler..you can make MORE pages for the same time and money. And more pages means a better value.
Frank Miller is one of the few guys who really got it in mainstream comics after he started Sin City. I've got a tiny size SC book that came with a DVD special edition and it looks great.
I don't care, if it's just a little indie comic who gives a shit? If it's an actual comic book and there isn't a good reason for it beyond being a weeb then I will know the comic is trash
cringe
Extremely cringe.
incredibly cringe
Japanese reads from right to left. Well technically from top to bottom and then right to left. So it's the most natural reading pattern for them.
>Japanese reads from right to left.
No it doesn't.

nice breasts
You will never be Japanese/10
Undeniably cringe and English translated manga should be digitally flipped for convenience!
cronge
Based. It filters midwits who can't readjust at will.
that biscuit hammer? how was the adapt?
Very 20s
Cringe. Because it has supporters like .
Sublimely, exquisitely cringe
It's even cringier than unironically calling their comic a "manga," which is saying a lot
People do it because manga sell better than comics.
Black person, English is left to right, of course it's cringe. If it was like an arabic comic then it's fine

If you care about making money you'd make it reader-friendly to people from the East. Because there's where the money's at.
if i can read my translated manga right to left, they can suck it up and read my translated comics left to right
YWNBJ
Translate it into Japanese first then.

interesting the Koreans and Chinese don't do this, even when inspired by anime.
not good

>Is it cringe
Yes
tbhs it kinda makes sense to make it the jap way if your target audience are weebs.
Only an insecure author would ever feel the need to do this
Cringe. Some spanish manga style comics did this and it was very annoying
English is read left to right, so that's how english comics should be formatted as well.

you have 0 idea what you are talking about
You're right, there's absolutely nothing to be learned from manga.
Continue to make bloated pages meant to sell to whales for hundreds of dollars.
Would you intentionally create a comic that was meant to be read bottom-to-top? No, of course not.
If the comics you want to imitate did it before and want to appeal towards the demographic? Sure, why not?
Extremely cringe.
Unfathomably so if the creator also calls their comic a manga.
Unnecessary unless if you write from the left then it's fine
Wut
Cringe
Unfathomable cringe.
Do it however you want.
I prefer where it can he read from either direction and that will change the context of the conversation
Like muslims?
It's cringe when they change it for WESTERN AUDIENCE
If mangoids really want to make money then they should flip their pages to left-to-right and sell each chapter separately as floppies.
I don't care, if it's just a little indie comic who gives a shit? If it's an actual comic book and there isn't a good reason for it beyond being a weeb then I will know the comic is trash
Cringe. If a weeb really must make a comic read this way, just add a note like "Nip comic. You know what to do."
