Both Mark and Debbie are in an extraordinary situation that most of the population cannot relate to and Nolan has kept them pretty isolated that they could've had common ground with. After Nolan went to get a pack of cigarettes, it was just Mark and Debbie for a while, then just Debbie, then Mark brought Oliver home who is just an infant so Mark and Debbie are still the only adults in the family. That said, Debbie can't really be treating Mark like he's 12yo.

Well the first thing you need to understand is that Debbie is not a good mother. Also she's a booze hound. On top of that she's also an abused wife that can't let go of toxic relationships. Basically she's more fricked in the head than the show would lead you to believe at first glance.
